How to complicate matters more (tag: Earl) by Nicoletta Dupree

The brunette sat catlike in a chair waiting to pounce on the Crotalus keeper once he came through the entrance. They had lost the Crotalus versus Teppenpaw game and undoubtedly he, like probably the rest of the team and some of the house, would be feeling miserable. She knew she certainly was. She had been hoping against hope that a rogue bludger would have hit Dalila. Instead, the girl had just another reason to be happy. She hated it. Dalila had everything in the world to be in cloud nine about while Nicoletta had nothing. They were probably celebrating now. Her stomach clenched at the thought. She didn’t want to think about how Dalila and Adam would be living it up.

Instead her focus shifted to the letter she had written to her parents about her official decision. Now, she was just waiting for an official answer. She knew what was coming and every time she thought about it, she wanted to retch. She was going to be disowned and it was taking forever to get here. She placed a hand on her stomach, as it gave a warning gurgle. She wished it would just come already, especially before Christmas, which was next month. She wanted to get past the feelings of anger, despair, and hurt. She didn’t want to feel this way when the holidays came and everyone else would be in a jovial mood, but right now the pendulum was still swinging over her and with every inch closer it came, it was an inch closer to her having a nervous breakdown. She didn’t know how much more she could shoulder before it happened.

Hearing the footsteps of someone entering the common room, she glanced up in desperation, hoping it was Earl. She wanted to lose herself and she remembered vividly the one time she nearly did. She wanted to repeat the experience. She was using him and she knew it was wrong, but it wasn’t the first time she had made the left turn instead of the right one. It probably wouldn’t be the last, yet she needed to try and erase the memories. Everything she wanted to hold dear were the same ones that she wanted to forget. It wasn’t him. She gave a disappointed and impatient sigh. Where was he?

When he finally showed up, her heart gave a jump with nervousness and excitement. She need him. She didn’t want to be alone. Quickly, she combed through her dark curls with her fingers. She was sure she looked quite the mess. Putting on a flirtatious mask, she said, “Hi, Earl.” She wasn’t sure if she should mention anything about the game or not, but figured if she didn’t, it would seem like she didn’t care. A sympathetic statement would have to do. “I’m sorry about the game. It looked like a tough match.” That settled, she bit her lip in a moment’s pause. Taking his hand with hers, she swung it slightly, asking with an almost plead in her tone, “Do you want to go for a walk with me? Maybe to the library or the gardens?” To show him that she wanted a little more, she got up on the tip of her toes to reach her target goal. She placed a soft kiss at the edge of his mouth, just gracing it with hers. Pulling back, she gave a shy grin. She knew she was starting something she shouldn’t, but it was the only escape.

Is this a new book you're writing? by Earl Valentine

They lost. It had to happen sooner or later, but the taste of victory when Crotalus won the championship still lingered. At least until this game. He stayed in the changing room long after the game ended. By the time he left, there wasn't a single person left in the stands or anywhere else near the pitch. Sighing to himself, Earl made his way back to the dorm without coming across so much as a prairie elf.

He gave the password to Gunter and pushed the portrait open expecting to bypass the people of his dejected house and go straight to his room which he happily shared with no one. But as soon as he stepped over the threshold, he was confronted by a familiar face.

Hi, Earl.

It was Nicoletta. He stared at her for a second before giving her a cautious "Hey" back. He remembered the last time they had direct conversation. It ended up with her crying on his shoulder. It wasn't what he really needed or wanted right now. And then she mentioned the game. It was all he needed was to talk about them losing. But she took his hand.

For the first time since she walked up to him, he looked directly at her. What was she doing? Just taking his hand like that. And then asking if he wanted to go for a walk. He was about to say no. He was going to say that he really didn't need to have someone crying at him so soon after losing a game. Of course everything was wiped clean from his thought process when he felt her lips barely graze his.

It wasn't much, but it was enough to entice him into wanting more. He bit the inside of his cheek, but then grinned.

"Yeah, sure. A walk sounds good." He tightened his grasp of Nic's hand and led her out of the portrait hole he had so recently climbed through.

OOC: Pick wherever Earl wants to take her and she'll respond. >^^<

The heedful hello was not a good sign, but she continued anyway, hoping things would work out for the best. She couldn’t blame him. The last time they had been together, she had ended up bursting into tears. At the time, everything had still been fresh. It was still painful, but she had a handle on her emotions. At least for the moment and that was all she could really ask for. What she wouldn’t give to be more like Chris. Nothing seemed to phase him. Not really. He would get minorly emotional, but it would fade quickly and he would be the picture of resolve. He was always the logical, steadfast one while she was the irrational, irresolute one.

When he grinned, she offered a bolder one, pleased that he hadn’t rejected her. It was the last thing that she wanted or needed. A shiver of excitement coursed through her as he firmly took her hand and took the lead. She gazed at him with new interest. He was taking charge and she had to admit to liking that. It was hard to explain, but it made her feel wanted, secure. That was what she had liked about Lucien when she had first met him too, but that was before everything else that had happened.

She wondered where they would go. She had suggested the library or gardens. The gardens were better for actual walking, but they probably wouldn’t be doing much walking. Though, the library meant more of a possibility of someone coming across them and she wanted to be alone with him. Of course, there was also the pitch, but then he might think about the game and she wanted his concentration on her, as selfish as it might be.
