If there was one thing for certain- at least in the mind of Amy Fox- Quidditch took precedence above all else. One must live and breathe it in order to succeed. Of course, doing so could, at times, tend to make one go a little too far- such as in her case- but that was besides the point.
The fact that Amy was still stuck in this godforsaken school tended to put a giant damper on things. But- she had to constantly remind herself- she was starting to get used to the routine. She was beginning to recognize each team's captain and she also noted that each was now getting close to their seventh year- the captains either fifth or sixth years- and thus they needed someone to follow in their footsteps.
After finally making a decision, an Assistant Captain was appointed for each team. A note was tied onto the legs of four owls, each being sent to a Head of House.
Sadi - read the letter to the Crotalus Head of House,
Please inform Geoffrey Spindler that he has been selected as the Assistant Captain for Crotalus's Quidditch team.
Now that it had been established which sixth year students would be continuing with ancient runes to RATS level, Sadi had been in her office reviewing her lesson plans for the year. After a short while, a gentle tapping on her window caught her attention. Carefully placing down her quill so no ink dripped onto her parchment, Sadi stood and crossed to the window to admit the owl waiting outside.
Having detached the short missive from its leg, Sadi watched the owl as it took flight back through her window before she read the note. She had been surprised for a short moment upon noticing the signature – Amy Fox had barely ever spoken to Sadi – but then Sadi read the quick note, and immediately comprehended the reason for the unlikely correspondence.
Seeing as it was after dinner, Sadi headed immediately into the adjoining commons to discover whether she could locate the individual in question. There were, as usual, various Crotalus students gathered in the common room. However, Sadi couldn’t immediately identify Geoffrey Spindler as being amongst them. A second glance, however, revealed the team captain, Miss Zucchero.
“Miss Zucchero,” Sadi called to her, “could I please have a moment of your time?”

So far, it had been a fairly uneventful term for Jennifer Zucchero. She still had a few more days to go before the scheduled try-outs, and while she was hoping that a few more people would sign up, right now she was fairly satisfied with the list as it now stood. RATS level classes hadn’t proven that difficult so far, though, of course, they were hardly into much at all. It was amazing, being down to five courses. It might not have seemed like something that would make all that big a difference, but the fact that she got to stay with the classes she liked the most, and didn’t have to worry about the rest, was incredible.
Anyway, back to the uneventfulness. Jennifer had just been sitting in the common room relaxing and talking to a couple of people when her head of house opened her door and asked Jennifer to join her. The sixth year looked up, slightly confused for a second, since she couldn't imagine what she was needed for, but nonetheless replied, “Of course, Professor,” and then stood up and walked into Sadi’s office. “You needed me for something?”
The Quidditch captain was courteous enough to come without hesitation, which was both pleasing and unsurprising, as most Crotalus students were faultlessly polite – to staff members, at least, if not always to each other. Returning the same courtesy, Sadi did not hesitate to enlighten Miss Zucchero as to why she had been summoned.
“I have received a note from Coach Fox,” she said, holding the note in one hand and gesturing vaguely, but not passing it along. “She has selected an assistant captain for the house Quidditch team. As the Captain, I thought you might like to be the one to pass on the news to Geoffrey Spindler.”
Although this hadn’t been Sadi’s initial plan, it was, she considered, nevertheless a good one. After all, she had never been especially involved in Quidditch, neither was she particularly acquainted with Mr Spindler. Overall, it seemed far better to delegate the task to the team captain.
Having said everything that was necessary, Sadi dismissed Miss Zucchero from her office with words of thanks, and settled back to her lesson plans.
