Maybe Relaxing...Maybe Not. by Chrissy Mathers

Chrissy's semester had been a rather boring one to put it lightly. The only thing that was remotely exciting about the year had been the discovery of the returned Howards. Or...at least one of them. Chrissy could have cared less for the younger one. Otherwise, nothing happened that was note worthy.

The only thing Chrissy wished would stop happening were the constant owls from her mother. It was like, the older Chrissy became, the more insane her mother became. The two went hand in hand. The summer away from home had caused and even bigger rift between mother and daughter. In fact, Chrissy had grown quite close to her uncle's girlfriend. She would tell Josie (her Uncle's girlfriend) anything and everything. Josie took her shopping, called her beautiful, and gave her a lifetime of advice. Josie was the type of mother Chrissy had always dreamed of having.

This didn't make her real mother all that thrilled and only made their relationship that much more hostile. Not that Chrissy was really going to be bothered by it. For the most part, she simply ignored the owls. That was until she received a Howler. It was extremely embarrassing to get a howler and Chrissy was just happy that instead of it being delivered to Cascade Hall, the bird ended up bringing to her dorm room. Only her roommates would have heard it.

CHRYSANTHEMUM BEVERLY MATHERS! HOW DARE YOU IGNORE ME! I AM YOUR MOTHER AND I EXPECT YOU TO RESPECT ME EVEN AT A DISTANCE. IF YOU CAN'T EVEN FIND THE DECENCY TO WRITE ME BACK, THAN MAYBE YOU SHOULD FIND ANOTHER PLACE TO CALL HOME. At this point the Howler signed and Chrissy could just tell her mother was pinching the bridge of her nose as if to ward off an on-coming headache.

Your Uncle is going off on Holiday, so you can't stay there during Christmas. Your father and I have a business adventure up in Canada so it's best if you didn't come home either. You may stay with Tally if Michael permits it or you can stay at school. It's your choice. Watch what you eat, I don't want to have to buy bigger clothes for you again this year.

Her mother gave her the usual goodbye stuff and the Howler burst into flames. Chrissy sighed. Of course she had to end it with a jest to her weight. Foul woman. And now she had to figure out what she was going to do for Christmas. She had been looking forward to going back down to Virginia, but if she couldn't...and she couldn't go home...and she knew Tally liked her family time with her father and brother...Chrissy would just have to stay here at Sonora.

Wonderful.\n\n

Not going home for the holidays. by Lily Collins

As Lily walked down the hall to the room she shared with the other fourth year Crotali girls, she heard yelling. At first she thought it was the third years at war again, but it didn't really sound much like an arguement. Lily shrugged and entered her room. That's when she noticed the red envelope. Ahh...Howler. Lily had never recieved one, being that the person who would have actually sent her one was a muggle and would have been completely unable to do so. She actually hadn't heard from her mom in ages. Not that she really cared to. Lily just found it a bit ironic that she hadn't been in contact with both parents at the same time since she was six years old.

"Hey Chrissy." She said casually. Lily wasn't going to ask her friend about the Howler. Chrissy probably wouldn't want to talk about it. "What's up?" That was a more general question. Chrissy could answer it with pretty much anything.

Lily flopped down on her own bed, noticing the two letters of her own. One from her father and one from Grandma Amelia.
She ripped open the one from her father first and scanned it. There was the usual greetings and then,

I'm sorry, but Felicity and I are going on a trip over Christmas. It's sort of a second honeymoon. Perhaps you can stay with your grandparents or stay with the Snyders

Rats. Well, she'd see what her grandmother had to say.

Lily, your grandfather and I are going to be going on a cruise in the Bahamas this Christmas. We're looking forward to the trip. We haven't been on a trip in ages. We'd take you but it's a cruise for senior wizards and there won't be anyone your age. Give our love to Autumn and your father and have a Merry Christmas at home

Obviously her dad still didn't stay in very good contact with his own parents. Lily resisted the urge to crumple up both letters in frustration and said "Guess I'm staying here for break."\n\n
