It was late morning when Wally the Great Horned Owl arrived in the red Crotalus common room. A very busy owl, Wally carried with him a letter to be delivered to a cetain Crotali. He loved his job very much, it made him feel needed. Humans seemed to love to send letters to each other, and he felt special being given the duty to deliver them. He would have loved to see the expression on the person's face once they saw they had a letter. But this morning the Crotalus common room was empty. Wally would have liked for a human to be there, humans usually gave him treats when he delivered a message. But there were places to go, letters to deliver. The owl reluctantly dropped the letter to the ground and flew off, never caring what the letter labled To:Jennifer Zucchero, Crotalus First Year From: Coach Cooper said.
Dear Jennifer Zucchero, It is my pleasure to inform you that you have been made captain of the Crotalus house quidditch team. Congratulations! Your duties as Quidditch captain will include scheduling team practices, devising plays, and working with your teammates. Your first job as captain will be to get at least enough players to form a full team. If you have any questions, please feel free to see me at the Quidditch Pitch. Good luck! Coach Cooper\n\n

Was Coach Cooper on LSD, or something?
by Jennifer
Jennifer stumbled into the common room after an interesting day of classes. Honestly, the thought that something like a dust storm that was that horrible could come up at a moment's notice wasn't the cheeriest of thoughts. In fact, a trickle of fear began to bubble up inside her. She didn't like unexpected disasters, not at all. However, the weather crisis was immediately forgotten when she noticed an envelope addressed to her lying on the ground.
She picked it up, and scanned it quickly. Then, fearing that today's trauma had distorted her vision, she read it again, more slowly. The message didn't change. She had been made Crotalus quidditch captain. The coach seriously had to be on some interesting medication.
"Why me?" she wondered aloud. "I'm pretty decent at quidditch, and I love the sport, but I'm nowhere near assertive enough to be a good captain. Maybe Copper just decided to see if I could do it, and if I fail, she'll replace me."
Having decided that she might as well do the best she could, she quickly walked over to the board. The Crotalus team had a seeker, a beater/chaser, 2 chaser, a keeper, and someone know would take anything. Now, they only needed another beater or chaser. She figured, if needed, she might be able to train Earl, with Laura's help, to be a beater, if no one else signed up. After pondering the list for a few more minutes, she walked over to her dorm to begin thinking of plays.\n\n
