Ingrid Wolseithcrafte

Ingrid had upgraded her shiny ‘assistant captain’ badge for the captain’s one, and now had her first two duties to execute as said captain. The first was to catch Ben as they left the hall following the feast, seeing as she hadn’t been able to pin him down before.

“Hey. Good summer, good feast?” she asked. “I expect you know what’s coming. Saying yes?” she asked, holding out the badge that last year had been hers. She didn’t think she particularly needed to convince him. “Looking forward to working with you,” she smiled. And even though she would rather have picked Lily, it wasn’t untrue. Ben was a good kid, and fun to be around. And was going to talk to Parker whenever Parker needed talking to cos she sure as hell had no idea how one did that.

Once they got back to the common room, she ran upstairs to get the sign up sheet she’d prepared. As Jemima was officially no longer a Teppenpaw, her sister hadn’t felt any qualms about helping Ingrid with the sign up sheet. The four balls zoomed about the top of the page, and at the bottom a little sketch of a warthog was waving a Pecari flag. The letters of the title flashed between brown and gold.

Tatiana had not, to her disappointment, gotten to play in a Quidditch game last year, and she had felt slightly out of place on the Pecari sidelines as well, bouncing on the ground and clapping her hands and shouting out encouragement in Russian because she couldn’t think in English when she was excited and she knew no-one could hear her anyway. She understood why it had been that way – she was, well, tiny, enough so that Papa sometimes joked about the wind blowing her away if she stood still too long – but still, it had been a disappointment, and she had considered not signing back up this year. None of her friends played unless one counted Parker, who spent most of his time with that really pretty Crotalus girl while Tatiana spent hers with Dorian or Jasmine or Jehan or Vladimir or some constellation of these. There was no real reason, socially, to return to the team.

Ingrid, however, was the captain now, and Ingrid had won a claim to a large quantity of Tatiana’s loyalty the day Tatiana had joined the team in the first place. Ingrid had spoken to her like a person, with no apparent contempt for her awkward English, and later, Tatiana had realized it was also mildly impressive that Ingrid hadn’t seemed contemptuous of her for being a first year either – her siblings rarely did, but she thought, after a year outside, that it was more common among other people. And Tatiana still had ambitions involving Ingrid. Ingrid was, in her opinion, extremely pretty, but she simply did not use her beauty to her advantage, and Tatiana wanted very much to find some occasion for hanging a decent pair of earrings on her. She’d look so well in one of Tatiana’s larger aquamarine demi-parure, and it was a Ball year….

First, though, she had to have occasion to remain in Ingrid’s orbit, so she signed up.
