Ingrid Wolseithcrafte

Ingrid had upgraded her shiny ‘assistant captain’ badge for the captain’s one, and now had her first two duties to execute as said captain. The first was to catch Ben as they left the hall following the feast, seeing as she hadn’t been able to pin him down before.

“Hey. Good summer, good feast?” she asked. “I expect you know what’s coming. Saying yes?” she asked, holding out the badge that last year had been hers. She didn’t think she particularly needed to convince him. “Looking forward to working with you,” she smiled. And even though she would rather have picked Lily, it wasn’t untrue. Ben was a good kid, and fun to be around. And was going to talk to Parker whenever Parker needed talking to cos she sure as hell had no idea how one did that.

Once they got back to the common room, she ran upstairs to get the sign up sheet she’d prepared. As Jemima was officially no longer a Teppenpaw, her sister hadn’t felt any qualms about helping Ingrid with the sign up sheet. The four balls zoomed about the top of the page, and at the bottom a little sketch of a warthog was waving a Pecari flag. The letters of the title flashed between brown and gold.

Ben was a little surprised when Ingrid caught up to him as they were leaving the Hall. They were on the same team and got along well enough, but they didn't really hang out socially at all, but as she held out the badge, he understood. He grinned and accepted. "Saying yes," he confirmed absolutely. While baseball was and always would be his first love in Sports, Quidditch had grown on him over the years and he couldn't imagine turning down the chance to be Ingrid's Assistant Captain this year and Captain in his own right next year.

He pinned it onto his robes, and answered her opening question as they headed back to Pecari's suit of armor. "Feast was good, summer was good. Both involved a fair amount of seeing Tess, and you can't go wrong with that," he said with a grin. "Hope yours went as well?"

Once they reached the commons, Ben saw the sign-up sheet wasn't up yet, but Ingrid was running up the girl's stairs, so he guessed she was going to get it. He settled into one of the comfy brown seats to wait. It didn't take long, and once it was posted, he summoned a quill someone had left on one of the coffee tables and added his name to the bottom of it.

Parker Fitzgerald

Parker had now eaten a bit and he felt a bit more of himself. As he walked back into the Pecari Commons he was thinking about what to do this year. Since it appeared there would be no Gardening Club this year, and since his adventure buddy was gone, he knew he would have to get rid of his energy somehow, and so Quidditch was going to have to be it.

After getting physically beaten last year in the last game, Parker had decided he would try to get a bit stronger this year. Taking a hit was something he knew he'd have to get better at if he was going to play. When he had asked his mother what he could do, she had first made him promise to go to the Hospital wing to get a check up. Once he had promised her 100 times that he would, and say that he would send her the results, she told him foods to eat and some simple exercises that work for "us non-magical people". His mom had started saying that a lot since last Christmas break.

Parker wasn't sure if he would be all that different physically from his other family members, but he also didn't know he wouldn't be. Either way he had taken to running a bit and doing push ups. Not many, but he was now up to 10 in one go. His dad had suggested something called a burpee, but Parker had done 10 of them once, and he hated them so hadn't done them since.

Walking into the Pecari Commons after walking around the gardens and throwing a token into the wishing well, Parker saw the sign up sheet and ran over to it. Ingrid had a lot more skill with the magic writing he could see. He was particularly impressed by the warthog picture, he kind of wanted the picture on the wall of his room.

Parker both laughed and winced at the mention of bruises. He knew he was going to get some more if he played chaser, but this year, the time he would have spent at garden club, he'd probably spend trying to get better at taking a ball to the gut.

He smiled as he finished signing up. At least one thing would remain the same this year.

Michael DiCaprio

The Welcome Feast was so long and Mikey was so full from it that he was ready to pass out. There were only two people in his year, him and another guy, which was depressing. But at least he would have a lot of older classmates to look up to and he could make friends with people outside of his house.

It was hard to pay attention to Professor Carter as she gave them a mini tour to their common room, and it was super cool to see where he'd be living for the next seven years. The suit of armor guarding their entrance and the secrecy were all a nice touch too. Mikey was going to sketch out the layout of the room and send it back to his family to give them an idea of where he lived. They were all curious about it since his dad Patrick had barely stayed at one school for two years before moving while he was growing up and his mom hadn't gone to a traditional magical boarding school. Mikey himself hadn't been super keen on going and being separated from his family, but now he was feeling pretty pumped about it. Maybe more pumped after he got some sleep.

After Prof. Carter let them go, he went up to change into his pj's before racing down the stairs with a sudden thought. He went to check the bulletin board and pumped his fist. "Yes!" Fun, glory, and bruises sounded like a pretty good gig to him. Since he had to quit Denver Quidditch Club for Youths to come to Sonora, he was planning on making Quidditch his life here. It would be even better than learning how to play and scrimmaging with other clubs. There had to be some real intense competition at a school like this and he couldn't wait.

Tatiana Vorontsova

Tatiana had not, to her disappointment, gotten to play in a Quidditch game last year, and she had felt slightly out of place on the Pecari sidelines as well, bouncing on the ground and clapping her hands and shouting out encouragement in Russian because she couldn’t think in English when she was excited and she knew no-one could hear her anyway. She understood why it had been that way – she was, well, tiny, enough so that Papa sometimes joked about the wind blowing her away if she stood still too long – but still, it had been a disappointment, and she had considered not signing back up this year. None of her friends played unless one counted Parker, who spent most of his time with that really pretty Crotalus girl while Tatiana spent hers with Dorian or Jasmine or Jehan or Vladimir or some constellation of these. There was no real reason, socially, to return to the team.

Ingrid, however, was the captain now, and Ingrid had won a claim to a large quantity of Tatiana’s loyalty the day Tatiana had joined the team in the first place. Ingrid had spoken to her like a person, with no apparent contempt for her awkward English, and later, Tatiana had realized it was also mildly impressive that Ingrid hadn’t seemed contemptuous of her for being a first year either – her siblings rarely did, but she thought, after a year outside, that it was more common among other people. And Tatiana still had ambitions involving Ingrid. Ingrid was, in her opinion, extremely pretty, but she simply did not use her beauty to her advantage, and Tatiana wanted very much to find some occasion for hanging a decent pair of earrings on her. She’d look so well in one of Tatiana’s larger aquamarine demi-parure, and it was a Ball year….

First, though, she had to have occasion to remain in Ingrid’s orbit, so she signed up.

Lily Spencer

It was without a doubt that, when the signup sheet showed up on the noticeboard, Lily was in a hurry to sign her name. She’d worked on her penmanship during the summer and had improved drastically. It looked more fluid and swirly now, rather than the sharp scrawl she’d used before. Though she doubted they would make a full team this year again, Lily was excited. She loved being the Seeker, though the position had less action than Chasers. What Seekers did have was more glory, something she enjoyed very much when they won. When they lost, it was close to devastating, but she’d long learnt not to take it so hard.

She was also looking forward to having Ingrid as a captain. She liked her immensely, and it helped that Ingrid’s sister was Lily’s brother’s best friend. It almost made all the Wolseithcraftes—at least the females—feel like family. Though she did covet the badge Ben had received this year, she could wait her turn.

Gold was already in her eyes as she signed her name, then cast a glance approvingly at those who had already signed up. She would have to practise extra hard this year to make sure she deserved the role of AC next year.
