Captain Liliana Bannister

August 23, 2016 2:23 AM
Like with the match against Teppenpaw, Liliana had been ready for a party to be thrown after the game. Whether or not they won or lost, Liliana wanted to celebrate the end of the season with her teammates. She had talked to the prairie elves before the game, deciding that if they lost then it could be a school wide end of season party in MARS. Luckily winning the game did not only mean that Liliana was in great spirits but also that all the fuss of coming up with decorations and inviting the entire student body to a last minute party could be avoided. Her main responsibility lied with showering, getting dressed in her most Pecari-outfit, and making sure the prairie elves had everything set up for the rest of the students while she did so.

She had been certain that the banners Rupert had charmed all those years ago for the last Quidditch victory party were still around somewhere and so she had pulled aside a particularly enthusiastic elf and made it his mission to locate and hang the banners. When she got to the common room, Liliana couldn’t help but smile. Logel had done an amazing job. The banners Rupert had created that read, in bold brown and gold, “VICTORY FOR PECARI” and “BOARS ARE WINNERS” and hung over tables that had been set up and covered with brown and gold table cloths. The centre piece of each table with a rather fruity looking punch with sorbet mixed in it giving the drink a rather frothy, magical appearance. Around the punch bowls were Quaffle and Bludger shaped sugar cookies and golden cake balls with sugared wings that fluttered a bit when picked up for the first time and then stopped shortly after. The regular goodies such as cauldron cakes, pumpkin pasties, and chocolate frogs were scattered around too.

“Alright team,” she said to her players as they got to the common room. “The party starts in ten minutes, so go wash up and get changed because we are celebrating hard today! You all worked beyond enough this year and you deserve to enjoy every last minute of today!” She put her hand in as she usually did before a game, expecting the others to do the same, and gave them all a cheeky smile. “One, two, three, GO BOARS!”

When Liliana came back down, having taken a little bit longer than ten minutes to loosely braid her hair and tie it down with her lucky gold ribbon, the party was in full swing and she grinned, grabbing a cup full of punch and hopping up on the nearest chair. “Attention, Pecari house!” She called over the din of chattering and music, clicking the cup with a little stirring spoon. “After six long years, Pecari has proved once again to the school that we are the best! Let’s celebrate now and do it again next year! Three cheers for every one! Joella, my amazing right hand who will make a shining Captain next year! Atlas for his amazing arm! Sammy who will be our senior beater next year! Ingrid for that AMAZING goal against Theodore! Ben whose love of sports has gone so far as to co-host his own sports club! Of course Lily and Killian our brilliant reserves who I just know will complete this team perfectly next year! And our very own Jamie Park, the man of the hour!”

Amidst the claps, Liliana stepped down off the chair and sipped at her punch contently.

Ten.

Sammy rushed out of the common room and up to her dorm, pulling off the top layer of robes as she went. She had a lot to do before their victory party started. Fortunately, Sammy happened to love having a lot to do, and rushing for time was basically her thing.

Nine. She grabbed towels and fresh undergarments and leapt into the bathroom, stripping down immediately. The water was cold because she didn’t have time to wait for it to get warm. Eight. Did she have time for shampoo? Probably not. Was she gonna try? Yup. Seven. Lather, rinse, repeat. Six.

She popped out of the shower and immediately wrapped herself up in her towel. As much as she liked sitting around in nothing but the soft, damp floofiness, she was on a schedule. She dried off her body--five--and pulled on her underwear and bra. With hair still up in one of those fancy twisty hair towels, she scurried to her dresser to find something to wear. Four.

The nice thing was she didn’t have to wear school robes or anything like that. It was basically just hanging out in somebody’s living room. As a kid, she would’ve just probably worn a softball jersey and baggy shorts. But she wasn’t a kid anymore. She was fifteen, old enough to, though she was loathe to admit it, care about her appearance. She’d even really gotten into fashion and stuff over the last few years, although that wasn’t something she exactly talked about.

Sammy whipped the items she currently rejected about the room, mentally swearing to clean up later. Eventually--three--she settled on flowy blue tank top cut off in the middle that would have revealed her stomach if not for the upstretch of the high-waisted black jean shorts she wore beneath. She slid into mid-calf length khaki socks, which were then half-masked by black converse. Two. Content, Sammy started toward the door but then realized she still had a hair towel on. Groaning, she pulled her hair down and started rubbing vigorously with the towel. One.

It wasn’t completely dry, but it wasn’t dripping anymore when she returned to the common room. Hopefully, the beanie she’d thrown overtop of it would hide most of her laziness. It appeared, though, that maybe Liliana had also found ten minutes to not be enough time, because it didn’t seem like anything had started. That was good at least.

She cheered and clapped along as Liliana said nice things. Admittedly, the fourth year hadn’t realized she’d be senior Beater next year. That was pretty sad; she’d never been. like, BFFs with Atlas, but that dude always had her back.

The last one mentioned was Jamie, the “man of the hour”. Sammy spied him not too far away and decided it was only fair to go congratulate him. She’d been a bit dodgy at the last party, but he really did deserve some recognition. “Hey, Park,” she offered as a greeting. “Great job, dude. And,” she added jokingly, “congrats on that post-game action. A kiss from the captain? I can’t say I’m not jealous.” Although Sammy was definitely more interested in a kiss from the assistant captain, the point still stood: Liliana was hot.

Atlas Primred

August 23, 2016 3:51 PM
Atlas managed to return the the common room without letting his emotions get the best of him, or so he thought. He practically was in a daze the entire way back, distancing himself both emotionally and physically from he team. He tried to smile for the team huddle, but he just felt his heart wasn’t in it. His eyes kept returning to Liliana, not really wondering why she would do such a thing, but why it made him feel like this. He was long over her, there was no reason he should be feeling so jealous.

In the safety of his own room he took his time changing and showering, he really didn’t want to rejoin his teammates for a while if he could help it. Of course Liliana put together quite the party, so unfortunately he felt completely obligated to attend despite his current feelings. He sighed his ten minutes of solace almost up, taking moment to put on a three quarter sleeve Pecari shirt and his fitted black jeans. Giving his hair a quick drying spell, he tossed it a little with some Gatsby hair wax before going down stairs. Even if internally he was a mess, Atlas figured he ought to dress up a little. It was his moment too.

Clapping along with his teammates he tried to focus on their accomplishments of the past year. Thinking back they had all worked incredibly hard, through rain, snow and sunshine- every practice to hone their skills and better themselves. On a more personal note, Atlas was quite proud of himself. Compared to playing as a reserve it was a much sweeter victory. Even thought they hadn’t won since his first year, Atlas still enjoyed how poetic the outcome of his quidditch career turned out to be. For better or worse, he was really going to miss this team.

Now that the pleasantries were over, Atlas grabbed a cup of punch, hoping that something in his stomach would help his sour mood. He wasn’t usually a fan of sweets, so he opted for the pumpkin pastie to occupy his time. With a mouth full of food, he decided to try and ease up and join in some conversation. Unfortunately the ‘incident’ was still one of the main topics amongst his teammates. Sammy seemed very eager to talk to Jamie about ‘getting some action’ with Liliana, a term he at that moment decided he absolutely hated. The more his co-Beater talked, the more angry he got. Not really at her, but at Liliana for just doing whatever she wanted all the time regardless of others feelings. He tried to take another sip of his juice, hoping it would steady his nerves. His eyes, which seemed to have a mind of their own, drifted to Liliana who looked happy so cute with her cup and completely oblivious. That was the final straw. Why should she sit there so content after doing something like that right in front of him. Finishing his punch with one hard gulp, he set down his pastry on the nearest table and made his way to the source of his misery.

“We need to talk,” he stated obviously agitated. He could feel what little control he had left over his emotions weaning, but he didn’t care anymore. Taking her by the hand, he pulled her away from the party to a secluded part of the common room where they could talk privately.

“Do you know what people, what the team, is saying about your little show of excitement on the Pitch?” he asked now that they could talk freely. “What were you thinking?” he asked raising his voice a little unintentionally. “I mean, I thought I was taking you to the ball, not Jamie,” he stated knowing full and well what a mean thing it was to imply. Logically he knew he was overdoing it, but he couldn’t help but feel hurt by her actions.

Liliana

August 23, 2016 8:10 PM
Liliana had not really registered Atlas’ mood on the walk back to the school. If she hadn’t been excitedly chattering with the rest of the team—all of whom were in tremendous spirits, she might have noticed his sullen attitude and made some sort of throw away comment about cheering up because they just WON and no one had to die for it, but she had been and so she didn’t.

It was, for this reason, that the irritation in his voice as he grabbed her and pulled her away to a talk caught Liliana by surprise. At first she was worried, her mind racing to see what it was that she might have done to upset him. Had he found out about Theodore? Was he cancelling his offer to take her to the ball? She had been counting on that offer all semester. Never mind that Theodore had asked Serena and that everyone else probably already had a date. Atlas was who she wanted to take her to the ball and no one else.

But as Atlas began to express what was on his mind, she felt herself getting furious. He had never indicated to her if he’d felt anything deeper other than friendship. When he’d asked her to the ball—although it had made her happy to know she was who he wanted to spend the night with, his words implied that he thought of her only as a friend. She had been working hard all semester to that effect. Never quite giving up hope but never quite holding it out either.

And now, after a semester of platonic words he thought he could get mad at her and scold her for a kiss? A kiss between friends (or rather teammates in this case since she wasn’t so naive to think that working together for a couple years was enough to turn Jamie Park into her BFF) was no big deal, everyone knew that. Besides, they were leaving in a few short months and as she hadn’t found herself an appropriate husband she was likely to be taken around lunches and dinners and introduced to her cousins’ unmarried friends. Such a small, innocent display of affection in the excitement in the aftermath of a game was hardly enough to dissuade someone who spent their summers at the dunes.

Long story short, although she hadn’t planned it out, she hadn’t thought it would have been such a big deal. Except, apparently, it was. To Atlas, anyway.

“You have absolutely no right,” Liliana began, her voice harsh but quiet. She was afraid to raise her voice any louder. She was so angry, she thought that if she tried to say anything complicated she might cry. She felt something building up in her chest and behind her eyes, anyway. “You’ve not indicated one time that this was anything other than a convenient friendship arrangement so you do not get to tell me who I can or can’t kiss whether they’ve just won a major victory for me or not!”

Atlas

August 23, 2016 10:13 PM
"Never indicated?!" Atlas repeated, "Convenient?!” He was nearing the end of his control, how could someone so great be so crazy. "Nothing about being your friend is convenient!” he blurted out, "Its absolute torture! You have no idea!" he stated, completely exasperated as he began to pace back and forth. She was turning this on him when it was her that didn't understand anything. "I mean you have to be the most air headed, self-centered, Quidditch obsessed, beautiful, smartest witch I have ever met, so the fact that you are this clueless is just amazing!” he stated as his anger flowed into a rant.

"But fine, since apparently the first three years of Sonora wasn’t enough of an indication,” he said turning to face her, “here is your indication!” Placing his hands gently on either side of her face, and with slight force brought his lips to meet hers. With that one connection, all the feelings he tried so hard to bury within his heart burst forth. He slowly parted his lips, eager to kiss her more deeply if she allowed him. Even after he tried to forget her with Ann-Marie, after all their time apart, after all the moments Liliana indicated seeing him as nothing more than a brother. He wanted her, and not just as his best friend. Somehow he convinced himself a platonic relationship was what he wanted, but after this he wasn’t sure.

It couldn’t have been more than 30 seconds into the kiss that Atlas realized its context. They were just arguing. He just confessed! He never even asked for permission to kiss her! He tensed, knowing he went too far. He unwillingly separated his lips from hers, but kept himself only a breath away. Atlas locked his eyes with Liliana’s, looking for her answer. Either her realization of the feelings he harbored all these years, or for a punch in the face.

Jamie

August 24, 2016 6:17 AM
Jamie was easily as vain as any of the girls on the team, maybe more so than some. Ideally, he would have just rolled into the party, mud-spattered and still too high on adrenaline to care, but the ten minute window given by Liliana gave him enough time for that not to be an option without really giving him time to get ready. His hair had been gelled carefully for the match, and was still more or less how he liked it, but he would still have like to wash it, dry it and reachieve that carefully constructed just-the-right-degree-messy look. He didn’t have time for that though, so he took a quick shower, taking care not to get his hair wet. He had already planned his victory party outfit, of jeans, a well-fitting brown t-shirt and the Quidditch jersey Ji-Eun had got him for Christmas, with his favourite team’s logo on the chest and his name and lucky number on the back. That gave him a few minutes to re-tease his hair. He guessed it would have to do. He definitely didn’t think he looked bad.

He listened to Liliana’s speech. When he wasn’t first, he decided she must be building up to him. Although when she scraped the barrel by mentioning the reserves, he did wonder whether he wasn’t going to place in her speech at all. But he did. He was man of the hour and he grinned almost as widely as when she’d kissed him after the match (or perhaps more, as that had taken him rather by surprise).

Once she finished, he headed over to the refreshment table, helping himself to one of the little Snitch cakes. Not only did he have something of a sweet tooth but he felt he’d earnt one of those in particular. It didn’t take long before Sammy joined him.

“Hey, Sammy,” he grinned. “Thanks,” he smiled, as she congratulated him on the win. “Good game yourself,” he added. There were two reasons why he misinterpreted her next comment. The first was that, whilst girls liking girls was something he was vaguely aware of, it was not something he had ever personally encountered, and it was not particularly common for them to drop it into the conversation so casually. The second was his own ego, although of all the times where this reared its ugly head, this occasion was perhaps one of the more forgivable. Getting hot girls was one of the main reasons he’d been interested in playing Quidditch. “Don’t worry,” he winked at Sammy, “Plenty of me to go around. And, for a rough and tumble Beater chick, you don’t scrub up badly,” he added, giving an appreciative glance over her outfit. The flimsiness of the top was definitely a plus, though the short shorts were the item that really got his attention.

Liliana

August 24, 2016 9:52 PM
As she listened to Atlas’ rant, Liliana felt completely indignant. There was no one else on the plant, she thought, who could force her out of such a good mood and plummet her almost instantaneously into feeling like absolute crap about herself and she hated it. But through it all, Atlas was her best friend. They had been best friends almost since meeting each other, aside from an inexcusable rough start anyway, she had been there after Ann-Marie destroyed him, he had been there after her stupid brother was born, and no one knew how to hurt her quite like he did.

She didn’t even have time to properly process what he’d said to her. She had been opening her mouth to say something her brain hadn’t even come up with yet other than that it was going to be very angry in tone when he’d grabbed her and kissed her. Completely stunned she hadn’t been able to respond at first although her instincts kissed him back as she’d kissed countless others back before. It was only when he let go of her that she realised she didn’t appreciate being man-handled like that.

But she wanted to kiss him more than she wanted to yell at him in that very moment because she’d been waiting a long time and so, instead of hitting him or starting the fight up again, she took a moment to catch her breath before pulling him back to her so that she was pressed between him and one of the walls. “I hate you so much right now,” she said between kisses. “And later I am going to yell at you. Just know that.”

Sammy

August 25, 2016 1:17 AM
How to tell Jamie Park was in a legit, for-real good mood: he gave a genuine-sounding compliment back. Sammy had kinda expected the victory to bring out the worst in him as winning sometimes had a habit of doing, but the opposite actually seemed to be true. Maybe since he was already sort of a tool, there was nothing else to bring out. Still, that comradery only lasted so long before Jamie seemed to notice a more pressing fact: Sammy was a girl.

She crossed her arms and rolled her eyes despite a telling smile, deciding not to inform him that she meant she was jealous of him, not Liliana. Best not to burst his bubble. “I’ll choose to take that as a compliment,” she stated teasingly. Sammy had never really been flirted with much and in fact still had problems even considering herself feminine. At least her baby fat had just about all fallen away by now, so her body was pretty decent.. She wasn’t the most curvy, but she was distinctly female now, if she wore an outfit that let her be seen like this one did.

“You don’t look too bad yourself,” she returned playfully. “Cool jersey. Although if it’s a signal you’re going pro, you might be letting this whole school champion thing go to your head, just a little.” Sammy wasn’t altogether a flirtatious person--she was actually pretty solidly oblivious in general--but she found herself mirroring his tone. “Of course,” the brunette added, “I don’t know if you noticed, but I’m the one who had a fan wearing my name in the stands. Maybe I should announce my pro ball plans.” She had definitely taken note of Laila’s homemade jersey at the game, and it made her heart smile. The little Crotalus was definitely a keeper. (No pun intended.)

(….Okay, pun a little intended.)

Joella Curtis

August 25, 2016 2:36 PM
Joella was still riding on an absolute all-time high from the match and as she entered the Pecari common room with her team, her seemingly permanent grin got even wider. This party was going to be the best, no doubt about it.

She was clearly already in a great partying mood but before she could enjoy the celebrations, she needed to change out of her sweaty Quidditch uniform and have a good wash. Ten minutes was asking a lot though and Joella knew she was going to have to rush so so fast (fortunately her elation at winning was keeping her exhaustion from game at bay for the meantime), and probably request the aid of her lovely roommates to speed up the process of getting party-ready even more.

The fifth year dived straight in the shower when she reached her dormitory. She had decided to wash her hair, even though she knew time was not on her side, because she’d had it up in a tight ponytail for the entirely of the demanding match and it probably wouldn’t look all that nice when she let it down.

Joella already knew exactly what she was going to wear, which made things easier. She had a cute gold short suit, a gift from her eldest sister Franki, hanging in her wardrobe that she was anxious to wear and she’d had no better occasion than today. Gold was, of course, her preferred of the two Pecari colours. The Chaser’s metallic gold outfit was obviously rather bright and screamed for attention but she had chosen to wear the fashionable ensemble more in team spirit than anything. Underneath she wore a simple black bodysuit so that she wouldn’t be revealing an inappropriate amount of her barely-there cleavage and also so that she could take the expensive blazer off if she so desired.

There wasn’t a great deal of time for applying makeup and styling hair but Joella wasn’t about to go down to the common room with her planned look being anything less than complete. She finished her look with a gold smokey eye and her favourite nude lipstick, leaving her long ginger locks falling in waves down her back.

Joella eventually made her way downstairs to the party, literally shimmering in her golden outfit. It wasn’t everyday that one got to dress up at school so Joella always made the most of such opportunities. Her whole family simply loved their fashion so she’d grown up knowing good taste.

Luckily for her she seemed to arrive not too far behind Liliana, mostly thanks to her friends being so helpful in getting her ready quickly. She didn’t really know what to do when the captain mentioned her name, introducing her as the future captain, so she just beamed at everyone because that’s what she felt like doing anyway. She cheered for the rest of her team proudly, along with their housemates, grabbing herself a drink in the midst of it all.

Before everyone could disperse and begin chatting immediately after Liliana’s speech, Joella clambered up onto the chair that the older girl had stepped down from. It wasn’t so easy, given that she was wearing her strappy black heels but she managed to do it with reasonable grace, she thought. This was part of the reason she loved shorts - there was no risk of showing off a little too much in situations such as this.

“Sorry to keep you all for a moment longer,” she called out, her voice filling the room, “but before we get this party started, I’d just like to say one more thing.” She turned to look directly at Liliana but kept her voice at the same volume so everyone in the room could hear her. “Liliana, you’ve been such a great captain and the first to ever lead a win in my time here at Sonora. I know that the whole team are with me in thanking you for your dedication. The endless, gruelling practices,” she chose to exaggerate in a teasing manner even though she actually appreciated the way that Liliana had really made the team work this term, “that you put us through have clearly paid off. We’ve all learnt things from you that we will carry with us so...thank you. And Atlas,” she searched for him in the crowd now, “you have been such a key player for the team and I can’t imagine Quidditch without you having our backs.”

“But I hope that you both go on to do great things with your futures so, without further ado, let us raise our glasses - or your fists, if you haven’t grabbed yourself a drink yet - I do recommend the punch by the way, it’s marvellous,” she paused a millisecond and grinned for the hundredth time (she didn’t think she’d be able to stop grinning for days), “to our beloved Captain Liliana and Beater Atlas, and to the victory that we share today!”

“Okay,” she lowered her voice a little because she had nothing in particular left to say so she didn’t care who heard her anymore. “That’s my terrible stab at a speech done, you are all free to party!” Joella gestured for everyone to disperse further about the room with her hands, being careful not to spill her drink, before grabbing a nearby housemate to use as a prop to steady herself as she stepped down from the chair in her potentially unsuitable shoes.

“Sorry,” she flashed yet another grin at said housemate. “I’m an exhausted triumphant Chaser so I’d say I’m allowed to lean on people just this once,” she laughed.

“Thanks,” Jamie grinned, puffing up with pride at Sammy’s compliment. He was less than appreciative of her next sentiment though. Why shouldn’t he consider going pro? Did his team-mate not take him seriously even after he’d just won the god-damn championship? Sheesh, what did it take to impress these people. “I think I’m winning that race… It’s not about having fans in the stands notice you. Coach Grase’s first year here, and who’s the champion Seeker? I think that counts for a bit more than having someone wear your jersey. Unless I’ve underestimated the influence your little friends have in Quidditch circles,” he retorted. He hadn’t noticed who was flying Sammy’s colours but assumed it was one of her little gang.

“Whoa!” he gasped, as a sight over Sammy’s shoulder caught his eyes. Liliana and Atlas were pretty aggressively making out in the corner. Gross. “Damn,” he sighed, “I thought I was in there. I thought I meant something to her,” he said, hamming it up enough that it would be quite clear he wasn’t serious, “I guess there’s nothing for me to do now except drink away my sorrows,” he added, reaching for a cup of punch. “You want some?” he added to Sammy. His mother had managed to drill in a few manners over the years.
