Adam Spencer

June 10, 2015 12:02 PM
Early the morning after the feast, Adam posted the Quidditch sign-up sheet. He’d spent most of the night working on it, wanting it to be perfect. The parchment he’d chosen was brown with gold, curly lettering. In his previous attempts he’d tried to draw a wild boar, but after throwing away dozens of scribbles he simply stuck with his neat handwriting and excited letters. The header, “Join the Pecari Quidditch Team!” danced around at the top of the paper and would be sure to catch eyes passing by the noticeboard.

There were three positions to fill this year with Rupert and the Anns gone. Adam was really going to miss the three of them, Annette especially after working so well with her in the past, but at least Rupert was going on to the professional league. It was a sport that would end for Adam once he graduated from Sonora, but he wasn’t going to have any mercy this year as captain on the other houses.

All Pecaris with a competitive spirit and an interest in Quidditch: help us win the Cup this year!

Sign your name, year and preferred position(s) below. Open try-outs will be held Saturday morning at 10:00 on the Quidditch pitch. If you have any questions, please see Captain Adam Spencer or Assistant Captain Liliana Bannister. Go Pecari!

Below the brief description was the space for names where Adam had already written his.

Liliana Bannister

June 10, 2015 1:09 PM
Liliana raced down to the common room as soon as she got up that morning, not even bothering to get dressed and forgoing her normal morning run, planning to wait in one of the comfortable chairs until Adam got the sign-ups posted but when she got there it seemed that her Captain had beaten her to it and she gleefully stumbled past the chairs and shelves, nearly tripping a couple times since she hadn’t even washed her face and there was still sleep in her eyes, causing her to not fully be able to see.

When she got to the sign, she smiled sleepily (a smile that might have otherwise looked rather demented if someone else were around to see it) at the dancing letters Adam had charmed and took out her self-inking quill to write her name on the board. In frustration, the moment the tip touched the parchment she realized it was one of those horrid multi-colored ones Isaac had bought her for her birthday as a joke, but she decided that a multi-colored sign-up was better than none at all, and she wrote in her half-asleep scrawl (which, when she would note when she came by later to check on the board and see how it was doing, was actually much better than her wide-awake handwriting and looked as though it might actually belong to a girl) her sign-up information:

Liliana Bannister, 5th year, Keeper or Chaser

After that was done, she stumbled back upstairs to start her day with a splash to the face and then a couple laps around the Pitch.

Joella Curtis

June 10, 2015 2:56 PM
Joella woke early and made her way down to the common room after washing and dressing. Her eyes instantly fixed themselves upon the house notice board to check if Adam had the sign-up sheet pinned up yet. She didn’t think that she could have missed it even if she hadn’t been looking for it, smiling at Adam’s creativity - already he was proving to be an enthusiastic Captain, not that Joella had expected any less of him.

As she bounded over to the board in excitement, her quill already in hand, she stopped to look at the first sign up in curiosity. There was only one other name on the sheet so far, which wasn’t surprising since it really couldn’t have been up that long. Liliana Bannister, whom Joella saw had been picked as Assistant Captain and was not at all surprised but made a mental note to congratulate the older girl when she got the chance, had already signed her name in multi-coloured ink which made Joella grin a little in mild amusement. Her grin faded, however, when she noted the preferred positions her teammate had picked out. Chaser? Her initial feeling was one of horror at the thought that Liliana, the teams trusty Keeper, suddenly felt the urge to suggest a position swap. Pecari needed her at the hoops, didn’t they? After a moment of staring at the fifth year’s sign up in a very gormless manner, Joella blinked and shook her head.

She suddenly found herself thinking of the positives that could come with Liliana joining her and Adam to make up the Chaser trio. It would give her much more chance to get to know her teammate and Pecari might actually benefit from having a more experienced player in the remaining Chaser position rather than a new first year who might make an easy opportunity for Aladren to steal the Quaffle. And why shouldn’t Liliana want to get in on the action for once? The main reason Joella had never considered the position of Keeper for herself was because she found it exceedingly boring to stay in one area, often having to sit around and watch and wait. Even so, she did find herself a little reassured that Liliana hadn’t completely ruled out the idea of continuing her old position. Although surely if they could play well enough as Chasers then it might not even matter how good their Keeper was in the end, provided they could stop Aladren getting their hands on the Quaffle for long enough to actually score (which Joella didn’t think was too much of a challenge considering that the Hawks would likely be filling their vacant spots with inexperienced firsties).

After realizing that she had spent far too long simply staring at a sign-up sheet, Joella lifted her quill to the parchment and signed her own name.

Joella Curtis, 3rd, Chaser.

She had no intentions of changing position and thought that perhaps Liliana Bannister’s decision really wasn’t as much her business as she had at first felt.

Joella had never been one to endorse a great deal of change but she could adapt to it well and she knew she would be having to do so quite a lot this year. With Rupert and the Anns gone it was time to accept that the Quidditch team wouldn’t be the same as it had in her first year. But that didn’t make it worse, only different. And after thinking this over, Joella walked away to breakfast with a bright smile upon her face.

Ingrid Wolseithcrafte

June 11, 2015 10:48 PM
Ingrid had sat up after the Head of House speech, determined to put her name on the sign up sheet as soon as it appeared. She had waited and waited but had eventually been forced to concede that her eyes were getting heavy and it probably wasn’t going to be going up that evening.

Her first instinct the next morning had been to snuggle deep down back under her duvet, the feeling of sleepiness over-riding everything else. Gradually though, information had seeped in through her senses. The light was different. The duvet was different. She remembered where she was and that there should be a Quidditch sheet downstairs. She jumped up, running downstairs in her crimson nightdress.

She was half irritated that two people had beaten her to it, but it showed how enthusiastic the Pecari players were, and that was a good thing. She smiled at the names already on the sheet - Liliana Bannister and Joella Curtis. She was quite familiar with them from her siblings stories of playing against Pecari, and was excited to be joining a team with such a high percentage of female players. Francesca always had this constant thing about politics and what people thought of her and having to prove this that and the other, but the Pecari team was obviously open to anything. She thought the Aladren team probably were too, seeing as no one had said a word against her sister so far, and it was just Francesca getting her knickers in a twist over nothing.

In her haste Ingrid hadn’t picked up a quill, but luckily there was one lying nearby. She had given some thought to what she wanted to play but now she found herself faced with the sheet, it was harder… She had most experience playing a Chaser type role, as that was the easiest thing to recreate at home, and it was sort of how she’d always pictured herself. But Seekers got all the glory, and she knew Pecari needed one - it seemed sort of glamorous and tempting. She wrote both down and stepped away. But then, why not Beater? She had never considered it but there was nothing wrong with it. Really, she would do whatever, she thought, adding a note to say as much. She was a few paces away before she remembered that ‘whatever’ included Keeper, a position she had just entirely forgotten existed because it was just that dull. She amended her sign up one last time, so it finally read.

Ingrid Wolseithcrafte, first year. Chaser or Seeker. Or anything. But not Keeper.

Hoping a coherent sign up wasn’t part of what they would be judged on, she finally walked away fully, heading back upstairs to get washed and dressed.

Jamie

The Pierce girl had left, with only a win against the pathetic forces of Teppalus to her name. It had been silly of them to choose her over him, given her constant losing streak the year before, but at least she’d kept it up - he was going to be glorious in comparison. She’d also chosen an excellent moment to stop being useless at her role, making sure Shino didn’t get too big for her boots. His friend already had the fact she’d made her team (and not even by default) and won their bet at the Renaissance Faire to lord over him (and deal out a punishment for); the second she got her mitts on the Snitch, she was going to be unbearable.

He strolled the Common Room, seeing the sheet was up on his way to breakfast. On his way back, he took the time to sign up. He glared at the name of a first year, who thought she might take his spot, though she seemed a bit ditzy and unable to make up her mind what she wanted. Well, it wasn’t going to be Seeker, that was for sure. He was almost tempted to cross it out of her sign up. It was bad enough that Pecari really needed players this year, so she probably wouldn’t even have to do time on the bench. That was injustice enough, without her getting his spot.

Jamie Park, 4th year, Seeker, he wrote decisively.

Atlas Primred

June 15, 2015 4:00 PM
Atlas slipped down from the common room early that morning as he planned to get in a good swim in the MARS room before meeting Liliana for breakfast. It was a pretty usual routine for him at this point. Although he knew he would never be fast enough to ever really compete, he always tried to get in a swim each day, even if it was just for a few minutes. Besides being a good workout, swimming gave him time to think and reflect. Although he didn’t have any troubles in particular he wanted to hash out under the water, his longing to see his girlfriend was already starting to grow. As a result he hoped for a few good moments in the pool to day dream about their past summer together. Luckily, he wasn’t the only one taking it hard, Ann-Marie seemed even more upset this year about him leaving this year. The idea of a co-ed boarding school already made her a little anxious, not to mention that most of his class would be experiencing a cocktail of hormones now that they were deep into their teen years. Although her worries were a little annoying, Atlas had to admit that he didn’t completely mind her blatant jealousy, except for when it was aimed at Liliana that is.

Exiting the stairway, Atlas quickly remembered a mission he had to complete before he could head off to the MARS room, signing up for quidditch try outs. The page practically beckoned to him the first morning of each new year, and Atlas happily obliged. Walking over to the notice board, he took out his self-inking quill and happily scribbled away his name and usual position.

Atlas Primred, 5th year, Beater

It was so difficult for the fifteen year old to think that he was in his 5th year of school. He didn’t feel old enough to be half way through Sonora, and frankly seeing it on the page left an odd feeling inside of him. He was a 5th year with real trouble and real responsibilities! Unfortunately that also meant that he now had his CATS to worry about. Atlas wasn’t sure how much of a help Liliana would be since she was could be a little spastic at times, but perhaps they could drag along Duncan- he seemed like he would make a good study buddy. Either way, Atlas knew that he had quite the year ahead of him, and that signing up for quidditch would be the just the tip of the iceberg year that awaited him.

Sammy Meeks

June 16, 2015 1:13 AM
Last year had been a time of settling and adjusting for Sammy. She hadn’t done any sports or clubs because she wanted to take some time to figure out this whole magic thing itself before diving in too deep. But now she understood enough about the world around her, and she found herself deeply missing being involved. Sammy loved people, and even more so, she loved playing sports.

Apparently, the only sport magical people seemed to care about was Quidditch, so that was what the school had. The brunette rather wished there was a baseball team or something she could try out for, but this would definitely appease her athletic streak. She went to some of the games last year, so she thought she knew pretty well which position she would want. In poorly scrawled print, Sammy added her name and decision.

Sammy Meeks, second year, Beater please!

Having a bat in her hand would feel the most to her like baseball, she imagined, but with the bonus of getting to hurt people. Not that inflicting pain was really the ultimate goal of baseball. (That was more like rugby, at which she also happened to excel.) And thanks to magic cool stuff, if she did manage to hurt somebody, the school nurse person medic could probably patch them up super fast, so aside from a brief stint of injury, there wasn’t too much risk. Certainly, Sammy envisioned, playing Quidditch would help her release some of the pent up energy she felt rising from having to sit still and behave the rest of her time here. Sometimes wizards and witches were so uptight!

Joey Thompson

When Joey had seen the sign-up sheet for the Pecari Quidditch team the morning after the Opening Feast, he wasn’t sure if he should sign up or not. He loved to play sports, but he had not yet learned how to fly. Once he actually attended his flying lesson, he became discouraged. He had struggled to summon his broom from the ground and into his hand. In fact, the broom had smacked him in the head one time and left him with a nasty bruise. When he eventually got the broom to come to his hand, he struggled to get off the ground. He was a Muggleborn, and flying just didn’t come naturally to him.

He did manage to get in the air and fly around a little bit before the end of the lesson. It was pretty embarrassing. It made him feel like a loser, which was unusual for him. Joey was used to being one of the popular kids at his elementary school. He didn’t like being at the bottom of the totem pole.

That was why he ended up deciding to try out for the Quidditch team. He wanted to prove himself. Any sport took practice, and he clearly needed it. Maybe one day he could be a great flyer and Quidditch player. Sure, he might get laughed at as he was starting out, but it would be worth it in the end if he managed to become a decent player.

After having dinner in Cascade Hall, Joey returned to the Pecari Commons and walked over to the sign-up sheet.
