Future Captain Demelza Eagle

February 26, 2012 11:20 AM
Demelza Eagle was balling her eyes out, despite how unusual that was for the tough sixth year. The score was 150-10, Pecari coming out victorious. The first years had certainly proved themselves. Jose won the cup for his last game as captain, just as Mel had wished for him. But most importantly, for the first time in Mel's career as a Pecari Beater, she got to experience what it felt like to hold the Quidditch cup.

"Party, right now," Mel told her team after wiping away the tears that unwillingly fell from her eyes. Of course, they were tears of happiness, but that fact didn't make Mel any less embarrassed about them. She put her arm around her precious first year beater, Elijah, and led the way to the common room, ready to have the party of her life. There wasn't much time to plan it all out, but she had a pretty big stash of butter beer in her room that should be enough.

After bringing down her butter beer stash to make the party really alive, she whistled loudly to get everyone's attention and then stood on a coffee table, which was quite unnecessary because she was already taller than most people, but it did help to get people's attentions, she thought. "We did it!!" She shouted to the group, grinning broadly. Admittedly, she was pretty sure that people weren't suspecting Pecari, the team who didn't even make it to the finals the previous year, to actually win the cup, but here they were, even without two of their starters! "So, um, anyway Jose should probably be doing the speech making 'cos he's our awesome captain and stuff, but I'd like to take this time to ask this year's team to meet me in the corner for a short conference." She had to share with them thrilling news she received from her brother Jamie recently that applied to the whole team.

Once everyone was in the corner with her, she got to the point immediately so the part could rave on. "Okay, so exciting news from my brother who plays for Australia's national Quidditch team: he's holding a camp for young Quidditch players in the States this year, Virginia to be specific, and he's promised to discount any Pecari Quidditch player who'd like to attend. I personally think this would be an awesome trip for us to take as a team to improve on our skills. If you'e interested, just ask me for more information later and I'll tell you about the costs and stuff. Mark the date: over night camp from July 28 through July 29. Two full days of Quidditch. I know you guys want to do it," she said, grinning at them all. She just couldn't stop grinning. "Okay, meeting adjourned!" She said in a bubbly voice, bouncing back to where the party was happening.

She couldn't wait for this to happen again next year. They were so solid, and with Mel's training program next year, they were guaranteed to be the best team in the school. Mel had her tryouts for the Regional Quidditch team (North East Region, to be specific) coming up soon, and she was going to make sure she trained harder than ever for that. For now, though, she could celebrate finally being victorious. "I'm just so happy," she said to the person next to her, taking a sip of butter beer. And it was true.

Elijah Errant

February 26, 2012 2:03 PM
He hadn’t really seen Jade catch the snitch, just her blurred form diving beneath the rain and beside her Arnold Carey hit, knocked out the way. A whistle had blown, maybe, he wasn’t sure, and a mass of brown and blue fell with cold droplets increasing in speed. He felt drowned in the rain, in the rising cheers of the encompassing stadium, happily suffocating and held down by Demelza’s arm weighing on his shoulders. She was leading them - the whole team - somewhere he couldn’t see, tripping over his feet to keep up with her long legs, his own arm wrapped around her waist, hugging her and beaming up at her, blinking water out of his lashes, squinting to make out her own smiling face and the shining trophy she held but they all possessed. “Lo hicimos!” He cheered. “Hemos ganado!” His bright laughter was shaken, tumbling out his mouth along with the slight shivers that wracked his body, his teeth chattering out of cold and excitement, the whole troupe of Pecari Quidditch players winding around the Labyrinth Gardens.

The heat of the common room and its fire rushed through him, warming him instantly. He felt the weight of Demelza’s arm lift from his shoulders and lost sight of her in the growing crowd of the common room, raising a damp sleeve to brush his face, clearing his vision. “Hahaha we won!” He pressed his cold dark skinned palm against another’s, thrill still spiking through his body. “We won!” A loud whistle struck the room and Elijah turned, white teeth flashing between his flushed lips and face, gazing up at Demelza. Her own happiness lit the whole room. He didn’t need the fire to keep himself warm. “We did it!” She yelled, and Elijah cupped his hands around his mouth, “Yeaaaaah, Pecari!” He added his own whistle to echo hers. He hadn’t ever really thought about what it really meant to be Pecari. The colors brown and gold, a wild boar as their emblem, ideas of spontaneity and instinct. He hadn’t really thought about what it meant to be there, though he’d easily accepted it, feeling comfortable as a Pecari. He just hadn’t realized that, more than comfortable, he felt proud to be among them.

Demelza ushered them all into a corner of the room. Elijah continued smiling, though his ears were buzzing and he couldn’t make out a word his assistant captain was saying. He replayed the sight of his bludger crashing into Arnold Carey’s arm again and again within his mind. The exhilarating moment once the whistle was blown, once it was clear that Jade had captured the snitch, that Pecari had actually won the game. Images of sweeping through the breezy air, all around the pitch, quick glances of his fellow teammates, the captain, the keeper, each chaser. “...adjourned!” He didn’t know what the word meant until the group dispersed, turning to watch where Demelza walked, hesitating to join her. ‘She probably has a stupid boyfriend to talk to.’ He still felt the weight of her arm like a pleasant ghost wrapped around him.

He flushed, turning from her, promising himself he’d approach her later on. Pecaris were supposed to be daring, and he didn’t want to let his house down, but something unfamiliar was stirring in his gut, preventing him from nearing her. “Hey,” He grinned at a nearby housemate. “Free butterbeer!” He grabbed two bottles, shoving it into his neighbor’s hands, raising his own in toast. “To Pecari pride!” He declared, bottle raised to his lips. “And Aladren... um, abolishment!” He tilted his head back and gulped down the drink too fast, immediately snorting and laughing, again, at himself, feeling the bubbles in his nose though thankfully nothing spilled out. “Whoo!” He grinned at his housemate. “Incredible game, yeah?” He wanted to go over everything in detail, he wanted to relive each second. His first ever game, his first ever championship, his first ever Sonora year. Incredible, incredible, incredible.

Arabella Brockert

February 26, 2012 5:08 PM
The year was almost over and Arabella couldn't help but feel a little disappointed. It had all been so...uneventful. Yes, she'd made friends with Alexandra and now Pecari had won the Quidditch cup, but still she couldn't help but feel let down. Somehow, Arabella had expected more from her first year at Sonora. It was supposed to be a special time in her life and it hadn't been all that exciting. Uneventful was good for some people, people like Valerie and even Ryan but the first year needed more. There was a reason she was in Pecari after all.

Arabella wasn't also completely sure that Pecari winning the Quidditch cup was entirely a good thing. Yes, she was happy for housemates and the team especially Sophie, who was her cousin's best friend whom the first year had an awful lot in common with herself. Personally, Arabella completely thought Ryan and Sophie should date. They would be so cute together and she couldn't imagine anyone caring more about her cousin than the elder Pecari, which Ryan really needed.

The potential problem was Jade. The girl seemed to have quite a high opinion of herself, and Arabella quite frankly didn't want to deal with an overinflated ego. One Carrie was one too many and she would rather not deal with another. Yes, one should be proud of themselves one they did well, but they shouldn't walk around like their-here Arabella struggled to think of a word appropriate for the lady she was supposed to be to use-didn't stink. It was just fortunate that the first year had high enough self-esteem that her roommate acting superior wouldn't hurt her feelings. Besides, she came from a world where being good at Quidditch was not for ladies.

There was also the fact that it was Theresa's cousin that Jade had beaten in catching the snitch. Arabella knew that had it been one of her cousins, except for Carrie, and her roommate started bragging about how great she was and suggesting she was better than Arabella's relative, Arabella would get angry and feel compelled to defend said cousin-and if such an awkward situation happened, she'd take Theresa's side too. Arabella identified with her more than Jade or Waverly, even if they weren't close.

Nor was Arabella big on house pride. The idea that one house was better was obnoxious and her best friend and favorite cousin were both in Crotalus.

Still, for now, she was going to join in the party. It had to be more fun than the kind her parents went to. People at pureblood balls were so uptight. Unless they drank too much and then they just embarrassed themselves and paid the consequences of being the subject of gossip and tabloid fodder later. This would be more relaxed and hopefully people would be less stuck-up then at pureblood parties. (Not that people at said parties acted that way towards her family, she was a Brockert after all.)

Arabella walked over and picked up a butter beer. She was just going to find someone to talk to when someone approached her instead.

Sophie Jamison

February 26, 2012 10:07 PM
Pecari…. won? How did that happen? At least from Sophie’s perspective, the game hadn’t been going well for her team. Aladren was up by ten, and their Chasers were incessantly and uncomfortably near her rings, especially with her current performance level. She didn’t know how it happened, but Jade caught the Snitch. It took a first year to win the cup for Pecari.

In all honesty, she wasn’t as thrilled by the results as her teammates, just as she wouldn’t have been as crushed if they had lost. In regards to the game, she just felt rather numb. For once, Quidditch wasn’t the top thing on her mind. The fifteen year old felt so distracted, her mind racing.

She just wanted to go to her room and maybe sleep off the world, but that obviously wasn’t going to happen, because the next thing she knew, she was being whisked off to some impromptu party Mel was throwing. A crowded Common Room was exactly what she wanted: not. Still, she tried to force herself to listen as the Assistant Captain—soon-to-be Captain—addressed first the group and then the team. The blonde was fairly unsuccessful in her attempt.

Standing alone, Sophie became acutely aware of her lack of friends. She hadn’t spent much time with Hope in a while, but the younger girl was a Teppenpaw. Likewise, Ryan was a Crotalus and thus not at the party. Merlin, she’d never wished more that they were in the same House.

One hand awkwardly cupping the other arm, her blue eyes glanced about for somewhere she could stand that didn’t make her feel like the sore thumb on the hand of Pecari. She’d never felt this uncomfortable before, which was saying something considering the nature of some maternal relatives of hers. Eventually she noticed Ryan’s cousin Arabella. While she didn’t know the first year that well, talking to her seemed like the safest option she had. Sophie joined her, her lips in an obviously forced smile. “Um, hey,” she attempted conversation.

Amira Thornton

February 26, 2012 11:26 PM
Jade had caught the Snitch. The hot headed redhead saw it happen. Sure, she was glad Jose got his win for his last year as Captain, but JADE had been the one to catch the little golden ball. The heat boiled up inside of Amira as the team walked back to their Common Room for whatever party Demelza was planning in her head for their win.

Mir wanted nothing to do with a party, she just wanted to be left alone. However, there was no such luck to the benched Seeker. Not only was she expected to go to practices and games even though she was not allowed to fly, but apparently this party thing was much the same. Her cheeks reddened almost to the color of her hair with buried anger as she watched Mel put her arm around Elijah.

The crowd of Pecari’s got back to the Common Room and Mel brought down a lot of butterbeer from her room. Amira wanted to make a break for it, but she knew that she’d never hear the end of it if she did. Instead she stood on the outskirts of everyone as Mel got up onto a coffee table. Like she needed to be any taller? Mir thought as Mel shouted to the throng of Pecari’s below her.

First JADE caught the Snitch which should have been all hers. Then she has to attend this stupid party in the first place. NOW she was expected at a meeting? What’s the point? Mel doesn’t like me anyway, she’ll surely take Jade as her Seeker now and I’ll be left in the dust. All this because I was so stupid last summer! I will NEVER be so stupid again. Never! she thought to herself as she balled up her fists, then released them. This she did over and over again the whole time Mel spoke to them about her brother’s Quidditch Camp.

Mel’s words made her turn fast towards the older girl. Maybe if I can go to that, maybe Mel will see what I can really do? I’ll practice as much as possible, every free minute I have… she thought until a voice spoke in her mind. “But what about all the money Mom and Dad were spending already with Aislynn being sick and the triplets?”

Making her fist again, her face fell once more. I can’t ask them to spend money on this. Its not going to keep anyone safe or healthy or learning. “What am I kidding?! It will keep ME learning!” she said out loud, and clapped her hands to her mouth. “Sorry.” she said to Mel as an embarrassed blush creeped up her cheeks, making them even more redder than they’d been already. Amira, however, made up her mind to talk to Mel about it. Maybe she could even get a job or something and pay for it herself. That would show Mel she meant to take everything seriously, that she knew. Mel cheerily bounced back to the party and Amira followed her.

Mir thought how best to start a conversation with her ‘New’ Captain, but as the gears churned in her head, Mel solved her problem and spoke herself.

"I'm just so happy,"

Amira watched as the older Beater took a sip of her butterbeer and she only nodded.

She had so much to say, so much she wanted to say anyway, but all she could release from her mouth was, “I want to go to the camp.”

Waverly Canterbury

February 27, 2012 7:48 PM
Waverly was so excited. She had seen her own roommate catch the Snitch and she had almost fallen out of the stands in her excitement. She had never seen such an awesome match before, and she was so glad she had been there not only to support her roommate, but to watch such an epic game! When she walked into the common room, she wasn't exactly surprised to see her fellow housemates partying away.

She whooped along with some of them and gladly grabbed a bottle of a curious drink she had never seen before. She uncapped it and took a sip. The taste was glorious, and she glowed from the exhilaration that was still running through her veins and from the sweet taste of the--oh, butterbeer? Waverly squeaked to herself, still excited.

She looked around for Jade, but when she couldn't find her, decided to join another group of Pecaris she hadn't met before. It was her goal (one of, anyway) to make friends or at least get to know all of her housemates, especially ones that were close to her year.

With the year ending, Waverly could hardly believe that her first year at Sonora was already coming to an end. She knew there were so many more years to come, but it seemed like such an awesome year. She had made lots of new acquaintances and friends, and she was really looking forward to next year. Magic was so awesome as were the witches and wizards. Waverly just loved it all, and she'd miss it over the summer.

Waverly's brown hair was loose and slightly disheveled from running and jumping and cheering, but her green eyes were bright and still excited. "Hi!" she exclaimed breathlessly, bounding up to one of her roommates and another, older-looking girl. "Isn't it great that Pecari won?" She smiled brightly at both of them and took another sip of her butterbeer. "Did either of you watch the match? It was fantastic! I've never watched a match like that before. Well, granted, I haven't seen a lot of Quidditch matches." She paused to breathe, and then turned to the blonde, unfamiliar girl. "I'm Waverly, by the way," she said, sticking out her free hand with a smile.

Jade Owen

March 02, 2012 11:47 AM
The journey from the pitch to the commons was a blur. She was aware that she had managed to restrain herself from dancing like a drunken troll at the end of the match, but she had definitely loudly proclaimed that Aladren were certified losers as well as certified insane, and she had been unable to resist blowing a cheeky kiss at Arnold when she thought she'd caught him looking her way. Admittedly the game had been close, and the final capture had been as much to do with Beaters as the Seekers, but Jade wouldn't openly acknowledge that just yet; she was too busy revelling in her long-awaited glory.

By the time Demelza had thrown an impromptu party, Jade was starving. Plus her robes were stuck to her with rain and sweat, and her curls were more or less matted into each other. Yet she was dizzy and euphoric, and far too tired to worry about clean clothes. n the absence of food, she reached for a drink, spilling a little down her chin in her eagerness to digest it, and wiped the excess away with a muddy back of her hand. "Pecari rule," she muttered to no-one in particular, a giddy grin forming on her face as she sank into an empty seat, with no regard whatsoever for the grubby watermark she would leave there.

This had been the best day ever, and jade wasn't going to get over it for a while. Already she was altering the play in her head - the rain was either not there at all or she had played in a monsoon - polishing up the better moments and eradicting the more mundane in her memory. She would have the perfect story to tell by the time she arrived home to deliver the news in person to her parents, who would no doubt be ecstatic to hear of her performance. It wasn't often that Jade got praise for being exceptional; being the youngest child could sometimes have that effect.
