Elly Eriksson

March 17, 2010 4:24 PM
It felt like it had been a good long while since Elly had thrown a decent party. Towards the end of the year, she'd had a lot to focus on: RATS examinations, finding a costume for the ball, learning to dance for said ball, planning her end of year - wait, end-of-school - prank, and finding those belongings she had lost right at the start of the year. One thing she would never have to focus on again was the Pecari Quidditch team. Therefore, even in light of their recent loss to Aladren in the championships (would she ever live that one down? Would the Cravens hunt her down and kill her? At least that would stop the humiliation), it seemed apt to celebrate the election of the new captain, and his assistant, who would lead Pecari to Quidditch glory for the next several years to come.

Having put up an obnoxiously loud poster on the noticeboard two days ago announcing the event, Elly had since decorated the commonroom even further in House colours of gold and brown, with tiny golden confetting falling from the ceiling in patches. She'd collected a large banquet from the prairie elves (they had always been fairly helpful, but even more so since she told them she was Head Girl), and borrowed a gramophone from Professor McKindy to blare out some bizarre tracks that sounded like classical music being played by a punk band.

"As you all know," Elly shouted loudly to all who had gathered - and those who just happened to be passing through the commons - "I, sadly, will be graduating this year." She spared a moment to dramatically wipe away a non-existant tear. "I will be leaving the Quidditch team in the very capable hands of its new captain. Congratulations to Jose Hernandez and his assistan captain Demelza Eagle!" Elly shouted their names with a cheer and a whoop.

"Dinner is served, so eat, drink, and be merry," she encouraged her housemates. Yep, she would miss this. Grabbing a pumpkin pasty from the buffet table, Elly went to stand next to one of her Housemates at the side of the room. "I wonder if college will be this much fun," she mused aloud.

Starbuck Gregory

March 17, 2010 4:59 PM

The lost to Aladren had been depressing enough for Starbuck but when it was announced that Mel was the one who had been chosen for the assistant captain she had fallen into a shocked stupor. Sure Mel was a friend but she was absent minded, and even a bit of a troublemaker. Starbuck thought Delilah or her would have been a better choice as assistant captain. She sighed as the Elly began a speech introducing Jose who would be a good captain, and Mel…who well wouldn’t make a good one.

She grabbed some pumpkin juice off the buffet, went, and sat in the corner by herself. She wasn’t in the mood to party but she was Pecari Keeper and would be the same next year hopefully. She pulled her feet up as she took a sip of the juice. It was sad that the year was almost over; she wasn’t looking forward to going home.

She hated going home; Sonora was such a cool place to be and now she was stuck going back to the Gregory farm. She wanted to stay here during the summer but she knew she’d have to see her family sometime, she hadn’t even gone home for Christmas break. She was pulled from her thoughts when someone sat down next to her. She looked up at them waiting for them to say something.

Demelza Eagle

March 17, 2010 8:04 PM
Demelza was full of mixed emotions: she didn't know whether to feel proud about becoming the new assistant captain, or to feel slightly... guilty? She felt weird being around her roommates, Starbuck and Delilah, because she felt that they could have had the chance of getting assistant captain ship too. She had a feeling that they were slightly jealous, so she had been hanging out with Jude a little bit more often the Delilah, who she considered her best friend at Sonora, in case Delilah and Starbuck wouldn't be as kind toward her.

Demelza had learned that she didn't like the lime light too much: she was so used to being over shadowed by older brothers and sisters that full attention just felt weird. But, when she walked into the common room and was super surprised by the decorations, she could only guess what it was. PAR-TAY time!

Demelza laughed as Elly began her speech. She gave a loud "BOOO!" and put her thumbs down when Elly announced that it was her last year here, and Demelza laughed at her randomness. But Demelza actually blushed when Elly announced that the celebration. Demelza never blushed! She grinned widely, although she was trying to hide her pride.

She went and grabbed some food that was laid out (ok, so maybe she was a bit of a pig...) and leaned casually against a couch. She so wasn't used to the attention! She heard someone close to her say something (Elly), so she replied with as much knowledge as she knew.

"My brother is in college, and the way he uses it... yeah, pretty much so it'll be like this! My brothers are only a little bit more sane than me, which is really saying something!" she said, as she laughed out loud. Ok, these past few days have been WAY cool, Demelza thought as she munched on her food some more.

Jose Hernandez

March 17, 2010 9:25 PM
"We'll miss you Elly!" Jose shouted to be heard over Demelza's booing when their gallant hostess announced she was graduating and leaving them, to the great surprise of no-one. The surprise came a few seconds later when he learned the point of the party wasn't just random Pecari graduations, but specifically for himself and Mel. He stood up and bowed and otherwise hammed it up for the audience.

He did note that Mel seemed uncomfortable with the attention, so he tried to take most of it on himself (without completely eclipsing Demelza who totally deserved the recognition, too) but he'd have to talk to her about that later. She'd never struck him as the shy type - which was largely why he'd picked her - so he'd have to see about getting her acclimated to having people watching and listening to her. Maybe give her a few lines at the try-outs and practices to get her used to that kind of leadership before she had to take over. No real hurry though. Jose was going to be the Captain for a really long time. He had five years to get her ready.

Of more immediate concern was the food. He was starving, so he headed over to where Elly had the buffet table set up and started collecting a tasty selection of vegan goodies (Elly was vegetarian herself, so he could usually count on her to remember alternatives to the usual fare).

Once he had something to munch on, he decided as long as things were looking so good for him right now, he might as well take his chances on another important matter. With so little time left before the Ball, he really hoped he hadn't waited too long, but at the last minute (well, last night really) he'd realized that maybe he should ask somebody to go with him.

And that was her right now. He gave his bestest grin as he approached. "Hey! Tawny!" Then, because he absolutely could not resist when he'd seen them sitting on the table, he held out a withered fruit that looked a lot like an oversized raisin and hoped to Merlin that it was what he thought it was, "Do you have a Date yet?"

Vegan or not, he was enjoying being this cheesy, but what would be truly embarrassing was if he found out later that the fruit he was offering her was a prune.

Nina Brockert

March 18, 2010 2:39 PM
Nina hadn't been completely sure why Pecari was having a party as they'd lost to Aladren but she didn't care. She just wanted to be a part of it. She was so sick of being the odd one out.

It quickly became clear that the party was to announce the new Quidditch Captain and assistant. Nina was rather surprised to hear that both of them were her fellow first years, but then, aside from the two graduating seventh years and Chelsea's friend's boyfriend, who was an alternate, the whole team was first years.

She couldn't help but wonder what had happened to the previous assistant, who normally would have stepped into Elly's shoes. Was she a seventh year as well? Nina didn't think so because both she and Elly were prefects.

But that was Quidditch and apparently, Nina wasn't allowed to have anything to with that. Still, she could at least try to be happy for Jose and Demelza and started off to congratulate them.

That's when Nina spotted Starbuck going off to a corner alone. She looked kind of down and Nina felt sort of bad for her, even though she didn't know why the other girl was feeling sad.

Congratualting the other two could wait. (Besides, Jose, at least, looked a little busy talking to...Tawny? That was odd, Nina wasn't aware the boy knew her distant cousin, but then, she didn't know either that well.) Nina followed her roommate to the corner and sat next to her. "Starbuck, are you okay?" Nina asked

Starbuck

"Starbuck, are you okay?" Nina Brockert asked as she sat down. Starbuck forced a smile and nodded. She liked Nina but she didn’t feel close to her like she did to Mel. Maybe next year would be different, with Mel being Assistant Captain and all. She brushed her red hair behind her ear as she sat up a bit straighter.

“It’s nothing really; I’m just going to miss being here.” She said with a smile. It was true she had fallen in love with the wizarding world and hated to go back to her boring muggle family. After only one term she was already calling them muggles, what was going to happen next year? “Kind of funny, I never thought I’d miss school.” She said with a smile and shook her head.

She had never expected to miss school but Sonora wasn’t a muggle school, where she was just that sad Gregory girl, here she was Starbuck Pecari Quidditch Keeper. Maybe she could talk her parents into getting her a new broom for next year. That would be awesome instead of using one of the old school brooms.

She smirked at Nina as she cocked her head to the side and asked. “Do you think your going to miss school this summer?”

Tawny Brockert

March 19, 2010 6:42 PM
Tawny drifted downstairs to the commons. She was sick of sitting around her room. The second year had spent most of the last week up there, sulking. She had found out that Pippa had a date to the upcoming ball, while she didn't.

It was not fair . Pippa always got everything, everyone liked her better than they did Tawny. What was so dreadful about her?

It made her so angry. When Tawny had first found out she even wished for the first time that she still had roommates just so she’d have someone’s stuff to break. Normally, she would prefer to break Pippa’s but as they were (thankfully) in different houses, Tawny didn’t have access nor did she currently have any other friends or relatives in Teppenpaw to go take her sister’s stuff for her.

She certainly wasn’t going to break her own stuff. That would be silly. Anyway, school was almost over and Tawny would have access to her sister’s stuff soon enough.

The Pecari had also considered going out and getting back at Pippa either by besting her by getting a date with a “respectable pureblood” or hurting her by getting Nathaniel to go with her. Unfortunately, it would not have been proper for Tawny to ask a boy to the dance, particularly a pureblood. Things just didn’t work that way, and she’d heard they’d asked others.

Now she was going to the party. Tawny might not be part of the inner circle of the Quidditch team and the popular Pecaris but it was her common room too and she had as much right to be there as anyone. She clapped upon hearing Jose had just been made Quidditch captain. Good for him.

She took some food and settled on one of the couches. That’s when Jose came up to her holding some piece of withered fruit.

"Do you have a Date yet?"

“No, I don’t” Tawny replied, successfully managing to keep the angry scowl off her face. It would not do to have a Brockert let on their bad feelings in public. Hence why she had let off steam in the privacy of her own room.

Was he going to ask her? Tawny hoped so. Going with Jose was genuinely what she wanted. She didn't even really know any other guy that well.

Elly

March 22, 2010 6:33 AM
Demelza would make a good assistant to Jose, Elly thought. She was enthusiastic, and though she was young yet, she would have plenty of time to learn to channel her enthusiasm into productivity. In the meantime, she would be able to support the team and develop her beating skills so that in future games the Seeker didn't end up in the hospital wing.

Not that it would be Elly's problem any more, because she was potentially going to college where, according to Demelza's account of her brother, life wouldn't be much different. "Your brother sounds like an amazing person," Elly replied, charging her pumpkin pasty in lieu of having a glass to raise. "And congrats," she added. "Make sure you kick Aladren into oblivion next year, okay?"

It just seemed natural to want to beat the other teams, even if she would no longer be a part of the school. Being in Pecari had been important at Sonora, and Elly had developed a great deal of House pride; it seemed unlikley to fade just because she had moved on. She might even try out for Quidditch at college, too. That is, if she decided to go. Her mind wasn't truly made up on the matter. "So what college does your brother go to?" Elly asked Mel, wondering if she would have a familiar face if her application to Sapienti was accepted.

Jose

March 22, 2010 11:33 AM
Tawny's answer (“No, I don’t.”) told Jose three very important things. First, if he was offering a prune, she couldn't tell the difference either. Second, she was available for the dance (or maybe she just didn't have a wrinkly over-sized raisin fruit and missed the point of the question, but Jose was pretty sure that wasn't the case). And three, she wasn't warning him against asking so he had pretty good odds here.

He grinned and handed her the fruit. "Well, you do now, if you want to have one. Did you have any ideas for dressing up?" He nodded toward the date (if that's what it was), "Obviously, I'm totally okay with being corny, but if you just want to wear normal dress robes, I think I've got a set of those, too, somewhere."

He wouldn't guarantee that they were in style or were made this decade, but they'd hold together, look reasonably presentable, and the ball did have a historical theme, so how bad could they be, really? "I've got access to a pretty good selection of historical costumes, too, if we want to be fancy. Just let me know the time period, your size, and your color preference, and I can get you a dress by tomorrow night."

Nina

March 22, 2010 4:59 PM
Nina considered what Starbuck had asked. She hadn't really expected her roommate to miss school that much. After all, they were Pecaris, not Aladrens. (Though, as far as Nina could tell, Chelsea was an Aladren and didn't care one bit about anything about school beyond seeing her friends.)

"I don't know." She replied. "I mean, I won't miss classes that much and I'll like seeing my parents and my cousin and the four siblings I have that I don't wish were switched at birth." Nina grinned, "Then again, the Pecari commons are a one hundred percent Chelsea free zone so I'll miss that."

She went on. "There really isn't much to do at home either." Nina constantly needed something to do. Some sort of activity. "And I don't even know if my oldest brother and sister will be home much." She sort of thought Kaylie would spend time with Ian and Adam would either be at Great-Grandfather's or with Talitha. "I'm hoping Chelsea won't be." Nina added. She sincerely hoped Chelsea would go spend time with one of her stuck-up friends and be out of her way. It would particularly funny if it was Holly, the muggleborn one.

Better to have Chelsea go visit them, then to have them come visit her. Nina shuddered to think of having what basically amounted to four Chelseas around. She wished she had someone's house to go to but Nina had never really gotten close enough to her roommates.

Tawny

March 23, 2010 4:38 PM
Something unusual happened then. A huge grin spread over Tawny's face. She actually felt something like genuine happiness (and her sister wasn't even in pain, to the best of her knowledge.) "I would absolutely love to go to the ball with you!" Tawny exclaimed. It was nice to feel wanted by someone, to be chosen by them. He asked her not one of the firstie Pecari girls.

It wouldn't hurt Pippa and her parents wouldn't necessarily find Jose to be an acceptable date, but Tawny did not care , particularly about the latter. Truth be told, they'd see him as more acceptable than her sister's anyway. Pippa was going with a muggleborn, even a California Pierce was better than that to them.

The thing was though, Tawny felt she'd have a better time with Jose than anyone else and she knew and liked him.

And being liked by Tawny Brockert was a rare accomplishment indeed, as she was either annoyed by nearly everyone else in her year and the ones above and below or had some contempt for them.

"You know," Tawny began. "I think historical costumes might be fun. Can you get something really really old looking, like medieval? Preferably green, like dark green." She then gave him her size as well.
