Practice makes perfect! by Waverly Canterbury

Ever since Waverly had heard about the upcoming performance for the Midsummer Event, she had been planning and planning in her head. She had known first off that she wanted to play the piano. She could have the Baking Club bake everyone cupcakes or cookies as a good luck gift, but she would think about that more after. Right now she wanted to get her group together because, well, she wanted to! She never liked waiting around to get her ideas out.

Waverly had sent messages the day before, only a couple days after the new term had begun, to Brielle and Valentina, two girls whom she knew could sing well. She had never heard Brielle sing, but Brielle said she could and Waverly believed her. She had actually been able to play with Valentina once, so she was extra excited, hoping that the older girl would come. She also really hoped that neither of them had found partners yet, or would bring their group (if they had one) with them. The more people, the better! New friends were always really fun.

The music room was empty when she entered, and she was glad. She didn't want to barge into someone else's practice time. She made a beeline for the piano and started playing scales. She had a couple ideas of what she wanted to play, but it all depended on what the singers wanted to sing. Since they were magical, maybe they would know different songs than the ones Waverly knew. Waverly hadn't totally integrated herself into the magical culture, so she didn't know what musical artists were big and whatnot. She still had a lot to learn, but she was sure it would come with age. She was turning thirteen soon and that would be a big milestone. She'd be a teenager! Her mom loved to remind her, and Waverly smiled at the fond memories she'd made with her family. It was like every winter/Christmas break.

This midterm she'd had fun making music with her mom and sister as always. After a long at the bakery, Waverly's mom liked to sit back and relax and hear her daughters play. Wendy was better at singing than Waverly was, so she usually let her do that part while Waverly played all that she had practiced both at Sonora and at home. Since her mom was her piano teacher, she knew when Waverly improved. She had the ear for it.

When she was being sent back to school, Waverly's mom had given her a box of goodies to take back to her friends. Waverly had told her mom all about the baking club and her friends who just loved to eat the baked goods all up. She had left a few of the baked goods in her room for her roommate, but there was still quite a lot in the box.

Said box was now resting on the closed backside of the grand piano, open and letting the wafts of cinnamon and chocolate float through the air. Waverly had cast a successful warming charm on the cookies and muffins before she came, which she was proud of.

Someone finally came into the music room and Waverly finished the D scale she was playing before grinning at the person. "Hi!" she greeted them enthusiastically. "I'm really glad you came! There are cookies and muffins if you want them. I warmed them up." She smiled brightly.

My mom always used to say that by Clara Abernathy, Pecari

Clara had never been to this part of the school yet so when she remembered that there was a music room here she decided to go looking for it and take a look. Clara had always loved to play the violin and sing, but she loved the violin more. Everytime she played it she thought of her mom and that made her smile despite the tears that soon followed. She didn't quite remember her mother well, but she did remember the sound of her mother playing and briefly her mother teaching her to play. She had practiced with her mother every day up until her mom got too sick to practice, then Clara played for her to make her smile. Even after her mother passed away Clara still continued to play hoping her mother could still hear her and it would still make her smile.

She carried the slighlty bulky violin case with her as she found the door to the music room and was a little surprised when she entered the room to see someone already inside. She also smelled cinnamon and chocolate wavering through the room. She smiled brightly back at Waverly and waved hello. "I like muffins," she told Waverly as she lifted one off of the table and brough it to her nose setting her violin case down on the floor as she did it. "How are you keeping them soo warm?" she asked curiously before taking a bite out of the muffin in her hand. Her eyes shot open slightly. "This is really good," she mumbled, her mouth still half full of muffin. She polished it off and brushed the crumbs off of the front of her robe. "So this is the music room, huh?" she looked around, noticing the piano and the other instruments. "Cool!" She saw Waverly seated at the piano. "I didn't know you played the piano Waverly. I play it myself although I don't play it as much as I play my violin," she chuckled lightly. Clara pointed to the Stratavarious nestled where she left it on the floor in front of her. "It used to be my mother's," she told the older girl before picking it back up. She took a seat by the piano and lay the case across her lap.

"I hope you don't mind me playing a few notes," she commented politely, opening the case. "I kinda need to practice. I've been slackin lately," she chuckled slightly, lifting the wooden instrument from its velvet interior. She closed the case slowly so as not to damage it and set it gingerly back onto the floor. She set her chin onto the chin guard and slowly pulled the bow across the strings of the instrument. The entire violin chimmed its notes and almost felt like it were humming under Clara's fingers and hand. The sound came out low at first then got stronger as Clara continued her warm up. She began playing the scales her mother had taught her, feeling her fingers slowly dance across the strings on the neck of the violin. It had been a while since I've done this she thought disparigingly to herself. I really did need to practice.

She started playing a little faster and her fingers struggled only a little to keep up. By the time she had finished with her warm up her fingers felt like jello and she was ready to play almost anything. As it were she found herself playing one of the pieces from one of her favorite "movies". It was a slow mournful piece called Lament from the "Lord of the Dance". She didn't know why she liked it, but she always found herself playing it at least once. The tones in it were soo rich that they seemed to resonate through her soul. She always found herself closing her eyes when she played it, like the melody was taking her someplace special. Someplace private, where only she was invited.

When Clara finished playing her song she blinked up at Waverly whom she had completely forgotten was there. "Oh gosh Waverly! I'm soo sorry. I forgot you were still here with me," she apologized slighlty embarrassed. "I hope you liked it. I don't play it for many spectators. Usually I'm alone when I start playing that one," she laughed slightly. "What did you think?" she asked the older girl, placing her violin carefully back into its case.

*is amazed* by Waverly

Waverly was glad to see Clara show up. It was always nice to see a familiar face around. "I'm glad you like the muffin!" she beamed. "My mom made it. I kept it warm with a warming charm." She was doubly proud now of her mom's baking and of her own skill with charms. It was simple, sure, but helpful!

"Yeah, this is it! I come here a lot to practice. You play the piano too? And the violin? That's really cool." Waverly smiled. "Sure, go ahead," she told Clara, eager to play her own instrument but also eager to hear Clara play. Waverly busied herself by rummaging in her bag for a pen and a piece of paper, and she found both as Clara played through her scales. She was pretty good! The violin kind of matched her. As she sat down to start writing lists of different songs she could play, she was stopped by Clara's sudden song change. It was crazy that she had been playing scales slowly and surely, and suddenly was playing a crazy awesome piece. Waverly's eyes grew rounder and rounder as she watched Clara's fingers fly over the violin.

She felt like she was at a concert, and when Clara finished and began to apologize like she had done something wrong, Waverly could only stare at her, mouth agape. When Clara started putting her violin back into her case, she found her voice again. "Don't put it away!" she blurted out. "Oh my gosh, that was so amazing! I so wish I could play like that! Did your mom teach you?" Since Waverly had been taught piano by her mother, she assumed other people were educated by their parents too. That was obviously not the case for most people, but it was a natural conclusion she drew now since that violin was her mom's.

"I have a great idea! You know that Midsummer Event performance we have to do? I was thinking of playing the piano and having other people sing and stuff, and I think you should totally play with us! You're such a good violinist." Waverly was trying to get over her awe for the girl, but it was really hard. "That is so cool. You must've practiced a lot!" It took a lot of motivation for Waverly just to practice four times a week, but Clara must've played every single day to sound that good!

Are you sure? by Clara

Clara blushed slightly at Waverly's praise of her playing. Other than her father, Aunt Alora and her cousins Clara had only been praised like that for her playing by her mother. That is until her private tutor. Abigail praised her a lot as she improved. She had been so sure that Clara would one day play professionally. Clara hoped she was right, but she saw that day being a bit far off for the 11 year old. She was hoping just to get through magic school in one piece first. She smiled awkwardly as Waverly continued to slightly gush and nodded her head slowly at Waverly's question about her mom teaching her to play. "Yeah, she started to," Clara began fidgeting with her fingers. "She practiced with me every day until she got sick. Then I played by myself for her," she told the older girl softly. Until Waverly Clara had never really talked to anyone about her playing. It was one of the few things she kept to herself.

Clara smiled awkwardly again as she continued. "After my mom died I studied with a private tutor. She made me practice like three times a day. I didn't mind it though. I loved to play so the practicing part was easy." The little Pecari shrugged her shoulders sending her wild hair bouncing slightly. She giggled nervously when Waverly suggested she play with her for the concert event. "Sure, I guess. If you think I sound that good. What do you think we should play?" she asked Waverly going over song material in her head.

Am I! Of course! by Waverly

Waverly was taken aback by the fact that Clara's mom had died. She had never met someone with a deceased parent, and so wasn't sure how to act. She really hoped it didn't show on her face, but tried to smile. "I'm sorry about your mom. But she must've been one heck of a violinist." If anything, Waverly was glad that Clara had been able to play the violin for her mom. Waverly couldn't even imagine her own mother dying. She would be devastated.

"I definitely think it sounds good!" When Clara asked what she thought they should play, she faltered a little. "Erm, I've had a couple ideas," she said as she got up and got herself a muffin out of the box of goodies. "I don't know how to play a whole lot, at least from memory. It would be nice if we had singers too, but...hm..." She bit into her muffin thoughtfully. "I can play "Love Song" by Sara Bareilles. She's a muggle singer. It's pretty easy, but we'd need a singer." She thought for another moment. "What songs do you know how to play?"

Waverly couldn't play many contemporary songs. She knew songs from her lesson books and her scales, but she didn't have as much time to learn songs. She didn't know any songs from the wizarding world either which would be a little difficult. It would be kind of cool to do a muggle song, though. She could represent her muggle culture at her wizarding school. Of course, Clara along with Valentina and Brielle, if they decided to show up, would have to be okay with that too. To her knowledge, she was the only muggle-born in their little group.

Bringing back memories... by Aubrielle Thornton, Teppenpaw

Aubrielle was so excited when she’d heard at the Returning Feast about the Midsummer Event. Each year her sisters came home from school they raved (most of them, anyway) about whatever fun they’d had. Now it was her turn! The grin from ear to ear that she wore for at least a week after the feast told her (and anyone else around her) that she was excited. She must have made her roommates all mad about all of it and she’d searched through all of her music books to see what she could do and then she got an idea.

What if I did an act with someone? Ooo! Where’s Clara! she thought as she rushed out of her room to find her cousin. She didn’t get too far as she’d come across a message from Waverly, the second year Pecari that her cousin and sister had been talking to when they first arrived at school. “Oooo!” she said excitedly into the empty Common Room. “Waverly’s invited me to join her! YES!” she said even happier as she pounded the empty air in front of her as she ran out of the room down to MARS.

Her black sneakers slapped at the floor as she ran up one corridor and down another, excitement brimming her eyes, making them look like they were almost glowing. Her knee length white sweater flew behind her almost like a cape and her black leggings felt warm as she ran, but she didn’t stop until she reached her decided spot. Room 5 of the MARS rooms was where Waverly said she’d be, so that would be where B would be. She reached the door and put her hand on the knob.

What she heard inside made her stop in her tracks. Aunt Sophia’s song…? she thought to herself as she stayed right where she was, ear on the door. There was something about the way that first Aunt Sophia had played that song, and now Clara, that made anyone in the family seem like they were melting. Well, almost anyone… she added to herself as she listened to the rich tones through the door. Good to know Clara's here, I was gonna ask her anyway... Aubrielle thought, right hand still cradling the doorknob and her left ear touched the board of the door as she listened with all her heart. A single tear fell from the corner of her left eye as she remembered when Aunt Sophia was dying how Clara had played for her and how much she missed her Aunt.

Sure, she thought of Aunt Sophia a lot, why wouldn’t she? After all, Clara and her family spent a lot more time with Brielle’s than Aunt Charlotte, Uncle Dante, Darina and Dimitry, and even less with Aunt Simone. Brielle herself, felt closest to Aunt Sophia of all her aunts and uncles. There was something about the fact that she was a dancer, Brielle was sure. She was determined to follow in her aunt’s footsteps. From the time she was able to try to walk Aunt Sophia used to teach her little dance steps, and though she wouldn’t call herself good, she wouldn’t call herself a bad dancer either.

This song, however, was one of those songs that she’d dance to as her Aunt or Cousin were playing it and she couldn’t help but feel her feet go to their positions as Aunt Sophia had shown her many years before. She heard the music play inside her heart and mind as her feet hit their remembered spots. It felt normal, real… Needed…

Her hand let go of the doorknob and she danced as if her life depended on it right there in the hallway. She jumped right in like she used to when she was younger and when the song ended she felt almost as if it had been ripped away from her or that her heart had shattered into millions of tiny pieces. Taking in a deep breath, she put her hand on the doorknob once more as another tear escaped her left eye. She opened the door, but didn’t walk in right away. She didn’t want to interrupt her cousin’s conversation with Waverly.

She was still thinking about Aunt Sophia anyway…

What to do for the show...hmmm... by Clara

Clara was excited about the fact that Waverly wanted them to play together. At least then she wouldn't have to do it alone, not that that would have bothered Clara in the least. As she and Waverly spoke about it she became vaguely aware of the door opening and she turned to see her cousin Brielle in the doorway. Clara coud almost swear that she caught a tear escape B's eyes. It was then Clara wondered just how long Brielle had been outside the door or in the doorway itself. She realized her cousin must have heard her playing and it must have brought Brielle back to her dance lessons with Clara's mom Sophia. Before Brielle could say anything, Clara put aside her violin and walked straight over to her cousin. She threw her arms around Brielle and gave her the biggest bear hug the slender 11 year old could muster. "I know Bri," she told her softly in her ear. "I miss her too." She placed her head on Bri's shoulder and continued to hug her cousin for what felt like a long time.

Clara finally let Brielle go when she was sure her cousin wasn't feeling so crummy and pulled her fully into the room where Waverly waited. "I am soo glad you're here," she told Brielle when they got back to Waverly. "Waverly and I were just trying to figure out what to play for the concert thingy and I think I have a great idea. Its probably the perfect song. It has singing which you could do Bri, piano playing which Waverly could do and violins which I can play. The songs called "My Only Hope" by Mandy Moore. Do either of you know it or know of it?" She looked from one girl to the other waiting for an answer all the while smiling at them both.

Idea? by Waverly

OOC: Posting-wise, let's have it be Brielle, Clara, and then me! :)

Waverly saw Brielle when she opened the door, but she had such a sad look on her face. She didn't understand until Clara went and hugged her. Then she wondered if Brielle had known Clara's mom too and they both missed her. She felt sad for both of them. It had probably been really hard to lose a parent/relative. Waverly felt really lucky that not even her grandparents had passed away yet. It still wouldn't be as hard as losing a parent, but...she wished she knew how to comfort them.

She smiled when Clara brought Brielle in. "I'm really glad you're here too Brielle!" she beamed. "Do you want a muffin or a cookie? There's cinnamon or chocolate ones in the box over there!" She was really glad she had brought it now.

It took a little thinking for Waverly to remember the song Clara was talking about. "Yeah, I do know it!" she said with a big smile. Then her smile faltered a little. "Except the piano part is really hard..." If she had the sheet music for it, maybe she could learn how to play it. She knew how to read notes and all that, but she would just need to be patient with herself. And practice a lot. "I think I could do it though if I have sheet music," she said, smiling again. She looked over at Brielle hoping that she knew it too. And if Valentina showed up, then they could do a duet! And then they'd have to best act ever!

Interesting idea... by Brielle

OOC: Works for me!

BIC:
Brielle watched Waverly and her cousin chat a little bit, but moments later, Clara turned around and saw her. The look that Clara wore on her face, told B that she realized that Bri had heard her play Lament for Waverly. The song still lingered in Aubrielle’s mind and her feet wanted so much to keep their dancing, to remember Aunt Sophia and the time the pair had shared. What the eleven year old hadn’t realized was that she’d been quietly humming the song as she stood there. Clara walked over towards her and threw her arms around her in the biggest bear hug that she could have mustered up and Brielle didn’t refuse it. In fact, the normally happy Teppenpaw actually had to hold back more tears over feeling her loss all of a sudden. It wasn’t even that Aunt Sophia had passed away recently, it had been quite some time, but for some reason hearing the song had brought it back to her tenfold.

What Clara said next surprised her cousin. Brielle had originally thought it was just a cousinly hug, not an ’I realized why you’re upset’ hug but Clara telling her she knew and that she missed her too made Brie look at her cousin and stifle a sob. What’s going on? The song alone couldn’t have done this, could it? she thought as Clara put her head on B’s shoulder and kept the hug intact. “I know…” she whispered back to Clara. When Clara let her go, Brielle felt herself get pulled into the room where Waverly waited for them over by the computer.

Her cousin gushed about being glad that B was there and Waverly added her pleasure and a beaming smile. Waverly offered her a muffin or a cookie and she pulled a cookie out of the box, smelling the freshly baked scent which played havoc with her mind. “Thanks!“ she said to Waverly. As Aubrielle took a bite out of her cookie, Clara mentioned that she and Waverly were trying to decide what to do for the concert. The song that Clara suggested had something for everyone, and it sounded like a brilliant idea to her. “I’ve heard it. I’m not sure I know all the words, but with practice I’m sure it’ll be fine.” she said, trying to draw her mind away from Aunt Sophia again.

Waverly looked like she’d been trying to think of the song, but then a grin escaped her lips and she said that she too knew the song. Her smile faltered and Brielle wondered what the matter was for only a moment because Waverly went on to say that the piano part was hard, but that if they had sheet music she would be able to figure it out. “I can ask Abi to look through my sheet music still at home and I can look here, see if I have it..,” she offered the older girl. It was possible that she had it, she had so much music!

I know...I'm a genius :p by Clara

Clara grinned as Brielle mentioned something about possibly having the sheet music for the song. If Bri didn't, Clara knew she did. It was one of the violin pieces she had practiced with her tutor, that amongst many other things. I think she made me practice so much just so I wouldn't be sad about my mom Clara told herself as she thought back to the hours and hours and hours of practice she had done. Sometimes it felt like her tutor had been trying to kill her, but given the things Clara did to herself on a daily basis death by violin practice seemed mild by comparison.

"If Bri doesn't have it I know I do," she told Waverly confidently. "It's in with my sheet music back at my room in the dorm. I'll bring it for next time. If you want I can help you practice the piano part," she offered Waverly. "I know it almost inside and out too. My tutor was very through," she explained grinning. "You would think somebody like me would have spent more time outside or something, but not me. I got to spend almost all of my time learning music...well that and how to comically crash a broomstick with me still on it." She laughed at her own bad attempt at humor. Clara knew that Brielle was either rolling her eyes at her crazy litle cousin (like she always did) or that she was laughing along with Clara having thought of one of Clara's botched attempts to fly herself.

"So what do you guys say? Same time tomorrow...only next time I bring copies of the sheet music?" she offered to both Waverly and her cousin, smiling encouragingly at both of them.

Our act is going to be great! by Waverly

"Awesome! Yeah, that'd be great to get the sheet music," Waverly beamed. "That's really cool, being tutored in music." Since her mom was the one teaching her piano and also ran a bakery, she didn't always have time to be really thorough in their lessons. She also wished she had learned how to fly on a broom as a little kid, but being a muggle-born, she hadn't exactly had that luxury. Brooms were dangerous anyway. She didn't own a broom mostly because her parents, her dad especially, didn't believe in that "old fairytale" of witches riding on brooms. He had told her to prove it with their broom at home, but it hadn't worked. She didn't know why, but maybe the brooms here were more magical. She would show him one day. Maybe if he came to the show if he wasn't busy at work! Her dad was still a skeptic when it came to magic.

Waverly played a couple notes on the piano before answering Clara's question. "Yeah, that'd be great!" She wished that her mom could be here to teach her and go over the sheet music with her, but her friends were the next best thing. She suddenly smiled brightly as an idea struck. "We should have a cool band name! Like, like...uh, the Witty Witches! Or something like that." She got up and plucked a cookie out of the box. There were still a few left along with a couple muffins. "Yum!"

It sure will be! by Aubrielle

Clara grinned and Brielle couldn’t help but giggle at her cousin’s reaction to her maybe having the sheet music. When Clara said that if B didn’t have it she did, Brielle looked at her cousin, confused there for a moment until she realized that this must be one of the pieces she’d been workin on with either Aunt Sophia or her tutor and smiled at her cousin once more.

Clara’s offer of helping Waverly learn the piano part made Aubrielle smile. She loved seeing her cousin or sisters becoming friends with other people. It made her feel all warm and fuzzy inside. It was just an all in all good feeling, and she loved it. Clara kept talking (like usual) and Brielle wanted to get a word in, but even SHE had a hard time getting a word in edgewise when Clara was involved. B knew that Abigail worked really hard with Clara and that Clara herself worked very hard if anything for her mother’s sake. Bri looked at Waverly and chuckled at Clara’s bad attempt at humor. “She’s erm… Not so good at flight…” she said, not really sure of how else to have said it. She rolled her eyes a little and thought (with an inner giggle) about how many times Clara herself had botched flying. “There was always that barn…” she said as she grinned at her cousin.

“Same time works for me too.” she added to her cousin and Waverly as Waverly smiled brightly and talked about the fact that they should have a cool band name. “Witty Witches? Like the Wicked Witches from the Wizard of OZ?” she asked, her own eyes lighting up with excitement as Waverly pulled a cookie out of the box.

The idea is good...the name is a little silly..lol by Clara

Clara wrinkled her nose slightly and inwardly cringed as Bri made mention of her flying prowess (or lack thereof) and the barn. Clara would never live that one down...EVER! She almost groaned aloud, but stopped herself. She had learned long ago to just smile and deal so here she was smiling and dealing. She heard Brielle's excitement on the prospect of a band name and while she agreed with Waverly that they could use one, she wasn't soo sure she liked "The Witty Witches" as a choice. It sounded too silly even to her. "It's not a bad name," she began diplomatically. "I'm thinking we at least throw a few more ideas out there before we settle for just one. Besides "the Witty Witches" sort of makes us sound like a traveling jester group and while I seem to be a master at amusing people with my ability to hurt myself, I don't think thats what we're trying to go for here."

Clara watched Waverly eat her cookie and gave her an encouraging smile as she wracked her brain for another idea. She remembered watching it snow outside and an idea struck the little Pecari like a ton of bricks. She smiled wide as she saw the image in her head play itself out. "Its perfect!" she rambled to herself as she paced excitedly in front of them. "We'd need a way to make it snow and use a light of some kind to act as the moon and a way to make the floor look like snow....." she continued to ramble. Brielle would die if she knew what was brewing in her cousin's little brain right at this very moment. She finally stopped pacing and turned to face the two girls. "I have the best idea ever," she told them excitedly. "A way to make our part in the concert the best ever! And I think I know the perfect name for the group too."

Clara grinned from ear to ear as she laid out her idea for Waverly and Brielle. "Okay...I think we should somehow make it "snow" while we play, drop all the lights in the room except a few that will glow sort of bluish-white on stage so the people can see us, make the floor look like its covered in a light fog/mist. I want them to think of twilight when they see us play. We'll even wear silver or black dresses and no shoes. I was half thinking we could glide in on broomsticks, but I'd rather see this work than screw anything up," she explained to them grinning at the last part. "And I think they should introduce us as the "Moonbows". It would totally go with the whole twilit snowy thing. What do you guys think?" she glanced excitedly from Waverly to Brielle.

Waverly beamed at Clara's idea. Her idea for a name sucked, which she wholeheartedly agreed with, and she was glad Clara could think of great ideas. "I love that!" she exclaimed. "Oh my gosh, I could do that one spell that we learned in Charms. Where you throw light into little round balls. I made a dollhouse for my Midsummer project last year and had those twinkling lights. I could do that!" Waverly was so proud of her skills in magic. "I don't have a black dress though...could we get one even if we're at school?"

The name itself was kind of funny too. The Moonbows. She thought about it for a second before shrugging. "I think the name's okay too. I can't think of anything better!" She smiled. "Oh man, we're going to have the best act ever!" Waverly really liked Midsummer Events so far and this time was no exception. The thought of performing was a little scary, but being able to perform with her friends and work with them all term long was so much fun! Though she'd be busy with Baking Club and school, she could make time for the event! Besides, she liked to practice piano anyway.

Waverly finished off her cookie and then put her hands on her hips. "Well then, I guess we have some practicing to do soon! How about sometime later this week?" She smiled brightly at the girls, anxious to start getting her piece perfect.

You did fine :) by Brielle

Aubrielle giggled at her cousin's wrinkled nose. She knew that Clara had been only reacting to her mention of flying skills, or lack thereof of them, but it was still funny. Then B got so excited over the idea of a band name that she didn't realize how silly it sounded truly. Witty Witches, as Waverly had said, was funny, as a name. However, that didn't mean it was them, or that it was anything that would make sense to anyone, even them.

Clara started talking again, in a way that only Clara could, and said that they should come up with a few more ideas rather than decide then and there. Bri smiled and nodded in agreement. "Yeah... We don't want to see you hurting yourself on stage... At least I know I don't..." she said as she stuck her tongue out a little bit at her cousin. Brielle could tell when Clara was really thinking, and right then, her cousin was thinking hard about something. The Teppenpaw’s mind wandered to the many things it could be before Clara paced around excitedly.

“What’s perfect??” Brielle asked as Clara rambled on about how they’d need to make it snow. “Snow?” she said, confused a moment before she figured out what she was thinking. A grin broke across Brielle’s face as Clara told them about her idea.

The grin continued to broaden on B’s face as Clara described what she’d been thinking about. “I think it’s BRILLIANT!” she said happily, hugging her cousin for coming up with such a great idea. Waverly beamed too and excitedly told them how she could do this spell to make light into little round balls. “Ooooo!! That’s cool!”

“As for getting a dress, I’m sure we can ask someone either at home or even here if we could borrow one if we don’t have one…” she said, wondering if she herself had one.

Waverly went on about how awesome the idea was and finished off her cookie. “Sure. What about same time tomorrow, like Clara suggested?” Brielle asked, looking from Clara to Waverly.

First practice...everybody ready? by Clara

Clara had taken their nods of agreement as a good sign and had packed up her violin for the day. She made a mental note to look for her sheet music tonight so that Waverly could practice the piano parts. She even had sheet music that held the lyrics just in case Brielle needed them to sing. She left the two girls for the night and headed back to the Pecari dorms to find her music and get some sleep. They had a lot of work to do if they wanted to be ready for the show. Now the little Pecari had butterflies in her stomach as she searched her music folder for the appropriate music sheets. She found them a few moments later and put them inside her violin case. She set the case on the top of her clothing trunk and tucked herself into bed. That was of-course after she had finished penning a letter to both her dad and aunt Charlotte. She wanted to make sure that Charlotte and Damon had been invited to come see the concert. She put the letters aside and laid her head down on her pillow, images of the performance dancing in her head as she fell asleep. So this is what Brielle's head must look like all the time she mused to herself as she drifted to sleep.

Clara woke up the next morning and stretched lazily and pushed back her blankets. Today was their first practice together as a group for the concert and she wanted to be ready. She was fairly certain that she had time to go to the owlery and send off the letters before she had to meet with Waverly and Brielle for practice. She got dressed grabbed the letters and headed for the owlery still thinking about their concert piece. I hope everything goes okay she thought to herself as she found the room she was looking for. She located her snowy owl, Speck, and gave him the letters to deliver after giving him a proper hello. She ran her fingers through his downy white feathers loving the feel of the softness. She gave him the letters and watched as he flew away with them. She couldn't help wondering how long it would take them to get where they were going. Once she finished with that she headed down to the hall for breakfast. When she finished with breakfast she headed up to the music room to do some practicing of her own before the other two arrived. On the way there she realized it would be easier to practice if she had her violin. She stopped by her dorm room and picked up her instrument.

She found the music room with little trouble and sat down in one of the chairs so she could pull out her violin. She set everything up including the music sheets, which she really didn't need. She could have played the melody with her eyes closed and began to warm up. As the portraits in the room looked on she began to play her part in the song. She was just starting the piece again when she the faint sound of the door opening. she glanced up from her music sheets and smiled as she saw who entered the room. "Hey! I was hoping I would see you soon for practice today. Shall we get started? I brought the sheet music," she told the person who entered cheerfully.

Ready! by Waverly

Waverly was so excited and nervous for the Midsummer Performance. She had never performed in front of so many people before even during her piano recitals. Because her mom taught her independently, she didn't get all the attention she probably needed to prepare for recitals from her live-in teacher. But Waverly wasn't going to be afraid. She wouldn't be performing alone either. They would be three strong performers. She had come to like the two younger girls a lot even if they were younger than she.

Today was the first day of practice and Waverly was feeling her stomach curl already. It was just practice with two of her friends! But just the thought of messing up during the actual performance scared her. She had woken up a little late and she had to hurry to dress. As a present for her birthday, Waverly's mom had sent her a little makeup bag with eyeshadow, eyeliner, and mascara in it. She wasn't sure if her mom was pushing her to start wearing makeup, but Waverly had already decided she wasn't going to until she was fourteen at least. Even though her mom was what she liked to call a Southern belle, that didn't mean her Arizona daughters were.

Waverly tied her hair up haphazardly before rushing off to the MARS practice room. She could probably find her way to this room blindfolded though she probably wouldn't want to actually try that.

She had to retie her hair as she entered the MARS room, but she smiled when she saw Clara there. It was a good thing at least one of them had all the sheet music. It would've taken Waverly at least a couple days to get the sheet music she'd needed. "Hey Clara," she greeted her. She could barely get out the greeting before Clara started talking. "Yeah, let's get started." Waverly's mom's voice came into her head. Warming up was important. But Waverly didn't really care about warming up that much anyway. "Can you give me the sheet music? I could probably practice a little bit before Brielle gets here."

Set... GO! by Brielle

Brielle left their first rehearsal exhilarated and happy. She was going to get to sing and dance to such a pretty song and she was thrilled! The lyrics told the truth and the music was perfect. Her range was large, and she loved that she could do anything with it. The song ran through her head over and over again as she left the Pecari's to go back to Teppenpaw.

All night long the song ran through her head and she happily hummed to it. What she didn't realize was that she'd started actually singing as well. She danced across her room, singing softly, getting slightly louder as she went. The song took her away with it. It became her, and she became it. They were one and the same and she felt right where she belonged.

"There's a song that's inside of my soul.. Its the one that I've tried to write over and over again... I'm awake in the infinite cold... But you sing to me over and over and over again... So I lay my head back down... And I lift my hands and pray... To be only yours I pray, to be only yours I know now you're my only hope...

Sing to me the song of the stars... Of your galaxy dancing and laughing and laughing again. When it feels like my dreams are so far. Sings to me of the plans that you have for me over again. So I lay my head back down. And I lift my hands and pray. To be only yours I pray... To be only yours I know now you're my only hope...

I give you my destiny i'm giving you all of me. I want your symphony. Singing in all that I am. At the top of my lungs. I'm giving it all I have. So I lay my head back down. And I lift my hands and pray. To be only yours I pray... To be only yours I pray... To be only yours I pray, you're my only hope."

The song ended with the humming and she felt wonderful. There was something about performing that put her back in her right mind, however crazy it was... She laid down in her bed and fell asleep right away, dreaming of the next day when she'd get to show her cousin and Waverly what she'd come up with.

***

Brielle woke up and sprang out of bed. She was too excited to even eat but she knew that she'd have to or she'd have a rumbly tummy just like Winnie the Pooh. A huge smile on her face, she grabbed her ballet shoes and put on a pair of thin black gauchos and a black ribbed tank top and with a pair of flip flops on her feet she went to the Hall to eat.

Once she finished eating she headed to Baking Club where they made Pumpkin Bars. She happily chomped on one of hers once she'd cooled them and from there she excitedly followed Clara and Waverly to MARS for their next rehearsal. The other two beat her there, but that was okay for the Teppenpaw. She was lingering through the halls humming and dancing rather than walking with a purpose and that was fine with her.

Walking into the room, she grinned at the pair of Pecari's "Hey guys! I'm soooooo excited! I came up with some awesome dance steps for this last night. My roommates must have thought I was nuts!" she said quickly as she swapped her flip flops for her ballet shoes and excitedly hopped around till they were ready for her.

Stuff for the concert by Clara

Clara watched Brielle hop around in her ballet slippers and lightly shook her head. It figured Bri would want to dance around while she sang. Clara shrugged. If it made Brielle happy who was she to argue. She went over by the piano where Waverly waited and pulled out her violin. "Okay guys, lets get started," she instructed before patting Waverly on the shoulder. Once Waverly began playing she listened to the notes to see if she might need some help. So far she seemed to be doing okay. She looked at Bri who had begun singing. She watched both girls closely listening carefully for her note to enter. Once it came Clara closed her eyes and began playing her part without ever looking at the sheet. Why should she? She could have played this song blind folded. She listened for both the notes from the piano as well as the notes from her violin. So far Waverly seemed to be doing well without her help. AS they neared the end of the song she heard Waverly drop a couple of notes, so she wasn't too worried about it. Overall it had sounded quite good for their first run.

Clara had them play the piece a couple of more times before calling for a break. While she got herself a drink she decided to try out the spells they would be using to create some of the effects. The clothes color changing charm seemed to work perfectly so she didn't have to worry about that one. The twinkle lights spell also did as it was supposed to so again she was pretty pleased. It was when she attempted the misting charm that she became a tad worried. It had worked, but not quite the way Clara had invisioned. She had been hoping for a small area of effect, but instead she found that the mist encompassed the whole room. The good part about that was that it wasn't very thick so they wouldn't get lost in it and it created more depth to the room. As long as that was the only hitch to the charm Clara figured she could make it work. Besides she had the spell to make the other ones stop so it should work out okay. She just hoped they didn't bomb this.

Once she was sure the spells worked properly-ish, she called for one more run. The last run seemed to go better than the others and by the time they finished she was pretty sure they would do great. "That was awesome you guys!" she told them encouragingly. "Now for the concert, I thought that Waverly and I would be off to the right side of the stage under one spotlight while Bri takes the left under another spotlight. The final light will sit on the curtain acting as the moon. Once the piece is overwith I'll cast the dispel charm to undo the mist, the lights and the clothes color," she told them. "We should meet by the bathroom in the room at the hotel where the concert is so we can change clothes at once. I figured since everything behind us will be black that we should be in silver dresses," she told them. She knew they already liked the idea it was just a matter of getting it all set up so they knew where to be. "Okay, lets call it a night and we'll try to do this again before the concert."

Clara gave both of them a hug and packed up her violin. She lugged it out of the room and back down to her dorm. She put the violin away and climbed under her covers to try and sleep. Sleep was difficult though seeings how she spent most of the night wondering how she would get her fellow classmates to take the pumpkin bars in the morning after their exams. Oh well...she would worry about that part in the morning.
