This situation is familiar somehow (Tag:HoH!)

Caedence couldn't help but feel a sense of deja-vu as she walked alongside her Head of House. Somehow, she liked it better when walking alongside Professor K, she seemed less... strict would be a fair word. While Professor Connell wasn't as intimidating as O'Leary, she was no Professor K either. In fact, the only teacher she'd like to be marched up for a talking-to would be Professor Chatterjee. He was rather nice, though Caedence would be dead before saying that aloud.
Also, this time she felt it wise to keep her mouth shut. It had gotten her into more worlds of trouble than she wanted to be in. Though as they were about to enter the Head's room, she couldn't help but utter a question, "I can have my wand back after this right? You wont...I don't know snap it in half? Ma'am?" She wasn't sarchastic. She really did believe the woman would snap it in two to keep Caedence from hurting anyone with it. She couldn't let that happen. She thought of the look on her father's face when he learns that he has to get a new wand...she repressed a shudder. At least it was detention, not expulsion. Though she was sure that was the next step or at least the one after.\n\n

The walk from the gardens to the her office had been made in silence, for the most part. Although, at least on Marian’s end, the silence didn’t come from anger so much as a belief that this could be a slightly delicate matter, and therefore one that needed to be discussed in private. She wasn’t really angry with Caedance. Disappointed in, yes, but that was the brunt of her feelings.
Still, the situation seemed tense, more so than was really warranted, at least in Marian’s opinion. She spent much of the latter part of it trying to figure out why it was so, but the reason became clear as soon as the two reached Marian’s office and Caedance finally spoke once more.
“What? Your wand?” Marian replied a little dazedly, not remembering what that had to do with anything. Then she reached into her pocket, where she discovered two more wands than usual, and recalled picking them up before she had interrupted the fight. “Oh, of course you get to have your wand back. I just forgot I still had yours and Hikaru’s. Here you go.”
Making a mental note to return Hikaru's to the first year or to his head of house as soon as this was over Marian handed the second year her wand before turning to unlock the door. While some might consider that move a touch unwise, she wasn’t really worried about the girl doing anything. She seemed to have become a bit more civilized than last year, and more willing to cooperate, which was a definite point in her favor.
Once Marian had gotten the door open, she motioned Caedance inside and into a chair opposite her desk. It was a fairly cluttered room, filled with various potions-making things that hadn’t fit into her classroom, or books piled just about everywhere. Her desk was slightly more organized, since the stacks of paper on it were arranged into neat(ish) piles by the sides. Once Caedance had sat down, Marian took a seat as well, behind the desk.
“Toffee?” she began, indicating a tray holding the candies by the edge of the desk. “And don’t worry. You’re not going to be punished anymore than I’ve already said. I just wanted to talk to you.” She paused, trying to make sure the girl was at ease, and then continued. “You, well, to put it bluntly, your temper seems to be out of control at times, and I’m a bit worried for you at times, to tell the truth. So I just wanted to have a little chat, see if there’s any sort of problem, etc.” She hoped she didn’t sound as weak and out-of-place as she felt. This was one of the aspects of being a teacher, and in particular a head of house, that always felt the most difficult.

Caedene eyed her wand suspiciously, checking it over for anything out of the ordinary. Except for a scruff of dirt, which she assumed was her fault, it was fine. She passed her gaze over the room. Why was it that the room was so untidy? Weren't teachers supposed to be neat. She checked the four corners of the room and looked over the walls. Nothing that looked to be threatening unless you counted the bits of potion stuff here and there. SHe jumped slightly when Professor Connell's voice cut through her glace-over. "Toffee?
She looked at where the teacher indicated. Carefully she grabbed one, not wanting to appear rude. Unwrapping it slowly she listened to the teacher talk. She wasn't in more trouble, which was good. She seemed so...tentative. As if she was afraid that she was treading dangerous waters, as it were. Caedence set her wand down near her on the desk as a sign of truce before speaking. "To be honest, ma'am, my temper is how I've survived my whole life thus far. I don't really want to go into details, but I do not quite have the 'happy home' most people in this school do," She recalled Hyana's shouted words. Well, maybe some people did know how she felt.
She took a calming breath before going on, "I do not wish this repeated ma'am; anything I say here. The first time I learned of my 'abilities' was when I was fighting a neighborhood kid. I whipped my braid around to smack him with my clip, "She held out her ruby studded clip to show, "and it knocked the kid out for hours. He cornered me a while after that and I lost the fight. Well, ever since then, I have had to deal with fights. Others wanted to see if they could beat me. I grew up fighting. I would guess since my first steps and words," She laughed lightly at her weak joke, "But why in the world am I saying all this?" She said mostly to herself, "Elly doesn't even know..." SHe shook her head as if to rid herself of bad memories and put the candy in her mouth to prevent her from talking further.\n\n
As Caedance explained her situation, Marian wanted to give the girl some kind of supportive gesture, even as little as a sympathetic smile. But she had the feeling the second year probably wouldn't appreciate the implication that anyone was pitying her (Caedance always seemed to thrive on appearing to be stronger than everyone else, at least from what Marian had seen of her), and she also didn't want to give the impression that the violent tendencies were in any way excusable.
"Naturally, anything that's spoken between the two of us will remain in confidence if you wish it to be so, unless it poses serious danger to another student," she began once Caedance appeared to have finished speaking. "And I'm not trying to say that a little temper is a bad thing. In fact, oftentimes it's quite the opposite, as I'm sure you know." Marian wasn't quite sure how to address Caedance's hints at domestic problems. While she herself hadn't had any beyond sibling fights, she didn't agree with the statement that most at the school had 'happy homes.' She would acknowledge that Caedance's might be worse than normal, and it was actually probably better to let the matter rest, since the girl obviously didn't want to go into any further detail.
So Marian concentrated on the second part of the girl's speech. She couldn't stop herself from raising a brow skeptically when informed about the fights Caedance seemed to keep finding herself in (from all sources she'd heard from, generally, people challenged the winners of fights, not the losers of them. Even so, though, she thought she'd managed to recompose her features once again before Caedance noticed.
"I suppose things do make more sense now, if you've been fighting for so long," she continued, trying to think of a gentle way to reiterate her point. "And I commend you for managing to keep afloat in the situation life seems to have put you in, but you may want to try giving your anger a more...useful outlet. I know you play on the quidditch team, which is generally a good source of anger management. I understand you may feel that your honor needs to be avenged every time anything is said against you, but that's not the case, and it would only lead to more dire consequences, which neither of us want."
Feeling she had probably gotten farther than she could have predicted with Caedance, and recognizing that she didn't want to push the girl too far, Marian looked the girl in the eye. "That's all I have to say, but I want you to think about it. Seriously think about it. I know this will sound cliched, but there really are better ways to solve differences than with fights. You may go." \n\n

Caedence doubted that this matter would stay between her and her head of house, but she didn't press it. She knew all too well how things spread amongst teachers. Especially when she got herself into trouble. Yet, was she really that much in trouble save the detention? She didn't know. She wasn't even sure why she said what she did. What she did know is that she wasn't going to say anything else really.
"I didn't say what I did for you to pity me,"she muttered when Connell spoke of 'the situation life put her in'. "Well, I will make sure to try to control my temper. I say try because I can make no further promise such as 'I won't.' I cannot change to be so...ah...tame should I say? overnight. I doubt in a week or a year even. But I shall think on it. I will. Good-bye for a bit then, Professor."
When she finished talking, she stood and nodded politely to her head. Then, with a small smirk, she left the room. She did not lie, she was thinking and she knew she would for a good while afterwards.\n\n
