Caedence Redoak

CAedence lounged in a big chair the wrong way. Her head reasted against the arm rest and her legs were draped off the other one. Her school bag lay on the ground under the chair. In her hands was a small book with pictures of zooming quiditch players. The cover bore the title 'A quick guide to better bludger bashing'.

Her eyes lit up as she watched the picture before her. It showed a female beater dodging a bludger going for her head and then proceding to knock it into the head of the opposing seeker. 'Bet I could do that!'she thought fiercely. Her long braid, which had been wound into an extra tight point for the first day of school, jutted out behind her like a deadly sword's blade.

She found no urge to go to the feast. She hated all the chatter and noise. It was all pointless celebration over a mundane thing such as the first day of school. Inside, however, she was extremely happy seeing as she, unlike either parent, was a very good witch who was accepted into Sonora and who would eccel. She was mouthing the tips to better aim and power("Hold tight, hands close, but not too close together, imagine an invisible line, hit with either the center or the end of the bat, never the very tip")when she saw someone watching her. She raised one eyebrow in a dangerous fashion, though her eyes betrayed her fierce appearence, as they were soft and welcoming, and said "Yes?" \n\n

Hi,

This is an Out Of Character post from your friendly neighbourhood librarian...

Even though your acceptance letter to the school told you where your character would be, she wouldn't know yet, as the sorting ceremony is part of the feast. She also wouldn't know where her Common Room was, or the password to get in as the students are led up afterwards by their Heads of Houses. I appreciate that you would have no way of knowing the latter of those pieces of information, and applaud your attempt to try and be original, and explore a different board, but I hope you can see how this wouldn't really work.

Perhaps you could repost, with Caedence being returning grumpily, having been forced to attend? Just a suggestion, I was trying to think of a way you could keep/reuse most of your post, as the spelling, grammar and length are all perfect and shiny and beautiful, and I'd feel bad if you felt your artistic efforts were entirely wasted.

Hope this doesn't downhearten you - I'm just trying to be helpful, as I know it takes a while to get into the swing of RPing.

Sincerely,
Tarquin\n\n

Adam Whitney

June 12, 2006 3:03 AM
A thirteen year with blonde hair and blue eyes exited the boys staircase looking very haggard. Adam Whitney had not had the best year and though he had thought summer would give him time to recuperate, it ended up only making him worse. He had been ill all summer just as he had been during the winter holidays. And as time went on, he became weaker and weaker.

Adam stopped in his tracks when he noticed a book some girl was reading. It had to do with Quidditch. Of all the things his blasted murmur and repiratory problems could do to him, they forced him to stop playing the one game he loved over all else. Quidditch. Adam had played Seeker during summer on a league. The same league where he had met the Santoros. And he had been good at it. Really good at it. But now, because he was constantly getting sick and his immune system wasn't working properly, Adam could no longer do anything really physical.

So, Adam stared at the book with a longing look upon his young face. He didn't even realize his staring was rude until the girl holding the book spoke. Adam's eyes left the book and landed on her face. She wasn't familiar, which meant she was most likely a first year. Adam smiled apologetically at her, "Sorry, I just happened to notice your book. You into Quidditch?"\n\n

Caedence

Caedence's raised eyebrow dropped as if some invisible wire holding it up snapped. The poor boy looked like he had no good solid meals for a while. To top it off, he looked rather ill. 'An orphan?'she thought.Sitting up correctly she faced the boy politely.

"yes, I am into Quidditch. My mum's a witch, though a horrenous one at that. I play beater. Forgive my curtness, I expected another immiture first year. They give us newbies a bad name, the way the chatter and giggle frequently. Do you play quidditch? You look to be the build for a seeker, though I'm afraid of the wind making you whip off your broom. Whatever is wrong with you?"Caedence said. Though she appeared like a proper pureblood snob, she did seem to give off a friendly air. She always woundered why so many people talked to her. She never really knew it was because her snob act wasn't convincing.\n\n

Adam gave the girl a smile when she said she was into Quidditch. He silently wondered if she was going to go out for the Quidditch team, she seemed to like the position of beater. Odd position for a girl, but Adam kept quiet of that subject. The Pecari Captains were beaters and one was a girl. Or, at least had the body of a girl, her personality begged to differ.

Adam gave a small chuckled when the girl rambled on saying how the firsties gave them a bad name cos they liked to talk and here she was babbling away. But his chuckle turned into a cough which then turned into a fit. He had to wait a few minutes until the fit subsided and then another minute for him to get his breath back. He was magical, so why couldn't they do anything for him? It was frustrating.

"Sorry." Adam said once he could find his voice, apologizing for coughing so rudely as she spoke. "Yes, I was a Seeker." Adam said, he really disliked Ginger. Even though he had never held the position of seeker at Sonora, he felt for sure that had he been able to play, he would have gotten it over her hands down. But any thoughts of dislike he might have had for her were kept only in his heads. He felt it was wrong to dislike her for that alone. It wasn't her fault his body was weak. "I haven't played for awhile though." Adam said by way of explanation.

"I have a bad heart." Adam said after a moment. She was quite rude to ask him so bluntly. She didn't even know his name and yet she was telling him he looked awful and asking him his medical history. "Because of my heart, my body is weak and can't fight off illness as well as others." Not that it was her business. "Anyway, I'm Adam."\n\n

Caedences mouth dropped and her stomach clenched painfully. The poor kid! And here she was poking fun of him! She hardly knew who he was, and yet she was turning the whole act on him. the whole I'm-so-superior act. How callous!

"I am so sorry Alex! I-I didn't mean-I-I mean I didn't know! I thought it might be a nast cold! Oh how horrible of me! Can you forgive me? My name's CAedence by the way."she said sheepishly. Her cheeks flushed a deep red. How much pain and suffering this poor boy went through! "I suppose you'd rather not talk to me?"she added in a small murmer.\n\n

By her reaction, Adam could tell that wasn't exactly what she was expecting from him. Most people didn't expect to hear heart problems. Especially from a thirteen year old boy. Alas, that was what fate had in store for him and, according to his mother, he would just have to get used to it. Still though, he wasn't sure if he saw pity or sympathy in her and he certainly wasn't going to take either of them.

She called me Alex. Adam thought to himself with a frown. Was she deaf as well as rude? At least she was apologizing. Though why she felt the need to add that she hadn't known was beyong Adam's comprehension. If she had known, she wouldn't have asked, right? "Adam." Adam pointed to himself as he said this. "Not Alex. And it's not a problem. You asked me what was wrong, I told you. It's not like you're a mind reader or anything." Adam said with a shrug. "So, you're new, how do you like Sonora?"\n\n

Caedence smiled as her blush deepened. "I'm sorry. Here I go and insult you, then get your name wrong. I can't believe how rude I am!" 'Man this boy must have patience a mile long!'she thought.

"I..like it here"she hesitated,"I mean, it isn't home but,"here she shrugged. What was she to say? Home was where the heart was. Right there with her dad who was so far into denial that he didn't even recognize her gifts. And right next to her was her pathetic mother. Sure, she was great and all, but what an embarassment she was!"It's cozy here. Nice furnishings, good food,"she said a bit too quickly."I-it's great, better than home. I-i like it here. I wish i could spend summers here! What a neat place it is too! Don't you agree? Great place to forget your troubles-oh sorry. There I go with the rudeness. I really dont mean it. I just...wasn't raised with much grace i guess you could say. Not drilled into my head,"she quickly changed the subject."Any help to offer a firstie? Any demon teachers? Forbidden halways? Any teachers easy to annoy?" Silently she pulled out her mental notepad to take notes. Great mischeif oppurtunities.\n\n

Adam

Adam laughed, but had to stifle it quickly as a cough abruptly offended him. He thought this girl was a bit strange and possible had something wrong in her head, but he reframed from making any sort of comments on that. After all, she was only a first year.

He listened politely as Caedence explained how she was liking Sonora so far. He gave a grin in agreement that this place certainly wasn't home. Although, Adam wasn't necessarily certain whether that was a good thing or a bad thing. At home, he had been confined to his bed, but it was still home. However, Sonora was Sonora and Adam could pretty much do whatever he wanted here without his parents interference.

Caedence continued to ramble on and then seemingly stopped when she concluded that she had been rude to him. He wasn't exactly sure when she had been rude to him. Was it the 'troubles' bit? Because, he whole-heartedly agreed with her on that bit. He wanted to tell her that she was fine, hadn't offended him in the least, but all he could do was manage a smile as she quickly changed the subject on him.

"Well..." Adam paused as he thought about the professors they had here. It seemed like every year they got new ones. "O'Leary seems to have a stick up his butt. Bulla doesn't have much of a sense of humor. I'm sorry to say that I think our Head of House doesn't have much of a sense of humor either. I would say that Dione is a professor to not wrecken with, but she's gone. Professor K and Marlowe aren't so bad though." Adam said, believing that he had gotten through them all. "I haven't really explored much of the school, but I haven't heard of anything forbiddon. The Cravens are probably better to ask about that stuff though." Adam said, hoping he was making a bit of sense.\n\n

"Ok, so let me get this striat(did I spell that right?) Marlowe and Professer K are alright? Is that Professer K as in K-A-Y? What do they teach? As for O'Leary, is he easy to set off? Is that what you mean? Just trying to straiten this stuff out." she said.

This kid was alright. But he did have that heart problem. Which, by the way, Caedence just couldn't imagine what it was like. The least she could've done was say his name right! And she kept being rude. But wait, since when did she care? Was she getting nicer? Caedence repressed a shudder; that wouldn't do! She had a persona to keep up! \n\n

((straight, straighten))

This girl increased to amuse him as well as intrigue him. He couldn't figure out what sort of background she had. From their earlier talk, she seemed to have had magic in her life growing up, but wasn't all that important. Or maybe he had just misunderstood the girl when she was talking. She had said a whole lot in a short amount of time, so it wouldn't be a total surprise to Adam if he had misunderstood her entirely.

"Yes, Profressor Marlowe and Professor K are cool and it's professor Kijewski, but her names fairly difficult to say, so we keep it simple. Marlowe teaches Transfiguration and is the Head of House for Crotalus and Professor K teaches Care of Magical Creatures and is Head of House for Aladren." Adam said slowly, answering her questions as best as he could.

"Um, yeah, I'd say O'Leary is pretty easy to upset. He's one of those people who don't like chaos. Or, at least, he seems that way. He teaches Defense Against the Dark Arts. Bulla is the Deputy Headmaster so best not to make him angry and he teaches Charms. Coach Fox is a nasty woman, so probably best not to get on her bad side either, especially if you plan on playing Quidditch." Adam told Caedence, wondering if it was a good idea to tell her all this. \n\n

OOC: I am sorry to say, but I think we should end this one, think so? It is a long time ago even for fuzzy time. Maybe we can have the two meet later. Sound alright?

BIC:Caedence straightened. "Well, I play quiditch. Beater, actually. I love the sport. One of my favorites. Just got a new broom, too! Mum got it. Did I mention that she's a witch? And dad's a muggle as well. Mum taught me all about Quiditch. I love reading books on quiditch."

This boy was good company! Not too mad at her either for being so rude. His heart problem was something that must be terrible to bear! She couldn't imagine anything so horrid! "Listen, I must be going. It was great talking to you. Glad to make a friendly aquaintence. With me, that is as close to a friend as I usually go. I'm sorry to say. I do hope we meet in the future. Alright?"she said.\n\n
