The rain had kept Lauren away from the Quidditch pitch during the game. She knew her roommate was the Keeper, but she just couldn't bring herself to face the cold, wet outside. Instead she had spent her morning and afternoon in the library writing a letter to her family. Writing home took a lot of effort and time on Lauren's part. She had one letter to her brother and sister, another letter to her mom, and another to her dad who lived in South Korea. By the time she was done she felt like her arm was going to fall off.
After packing her bags, she left the warm library and walked back to the Teppenpaw common room, massaging her wrist and stretching her arm as she walked. She felt bad she hadn't gone to Ginger's game, but she'd make it up to her somehow. She switched directions suddenly in order to stop by the pitch, but it was still raining outside and the game was definitely over. She raced to the common room, hoping to see people celebrating, but instead the atmosphere felt a little gloomy.
Lauren slipped one backpack strap off her shoulder, ready to deposit it down on her bed when she got to her dorm, and opened the door to find a scene already happening inside. Ginger was crying into her pillow and Jemima had beaten her to the dorm and was comforting her. Lauren froze at the door for a second, then deposited her bag down onto her bed and went over to Ginger's bed.
Jemima was saying things that definitely sounded like Teppenpaw's combined team had lost and Lauren felt bad. At the same time, she was kind of glad she hadn't gone to the game if it meant seeing her roommate not doing well out there. Lauren couldn't exactly echo Jemima's words of comfort, so she just put her hand on Ginger's arm.
Whenever there were any disruptions or fights in her house, Lauren was always the listener and she had always been good at listening. That did mean she wasn't that great at providing comforting words. After a minute, she asked softly, "Do you want to talk about it?" as if that would help at all. Whenever her mom got really sad, she just needed to cry, but if she was frustrated she would always talk and Lauren would listen. Lauren wasn't sure what exactly Ginger was feeling, but if Teppalus had lost, then probably a little bit of both.
