In the L-word with the M-girl by Marcus Crosby

Heart pounding, stomach turning, palms sweating, and Marcus barely held himself together. He felt absolutely terrible, and he wasn’t sure why. When he was asleep, he had been graced by grace herself, visions of his lovely betrothed Melanie dancing before his eyes. But somehow when thoughts of her carried over into consciousness, he felt sick.

He struggled to eat, and while his dreams were more than welcomed, actually getting to sleep was a challenge. Sometimes even clear thoughts were difficult to achieve. The Teppenpaw was pretty sure it had something to do with Melanie--it had to, right?--and he was terrified he had become allergic to her or something. How then would he marry her?!

But then he saw her, and the memories of his dreams paled in comparison. After years of friendship (and more-ship) Marcus had been privileged enough to watch her grow from the kind, adorable little girl he met into the wonderful, beautiful woman with whom he was going to spend the rest of his life. She had the power to render him speechless, breathless, and immobile. His cheeks burned for her the way he himself burned for her.

Seated haphazardly across a Teppenpaw couch, the sixteen year old pondered deeply, searching for how he could feel so strongly and it could make him so sick. Nausea, arrhythmia, insomnia--they had to be the worst side effects of love.

Love? Yeah, love! That was it! Love! Marcus loved her, and the deepest onset of this adoration and affection left him woozy and sick, but he strapped himself in for the ride because Melanie was worth it all. She was a goddess who would someday be his queen, and Marcus could not have been happier.

Hence the perhaps stupid-looking grin glued onto his face. A Housemate, whose name escaped him in this energized state, strolled by, and when he felt as if their eyes had set upon him, the blond only beamed further. “Do you want to know why I’m so happy?” he inquired loudly. Without even providing time for a response, he whispered, “I’m in love.”

Melanie Lennox

A perfect day. by Melanie Lennox

Melanie entered the common room. She was having a pretty good day, she'd gotten an O on her latest Potions essay and a letter from her sister, who had not been sick in awhile, so the sixth year was in a really great mood. She couldn't even imagine how things could be better unless Jasper fell in love with Valerie.

Not that she didn't have concerns. She wasn't holding her breath that her brother-in-law was going to fall in love with the Crotalus alumna any time soon. Melanie didn't like it, but she had to accept that betrothals did not necessarily mean love. She didn't think her parents were. She was just lucky to be with someone she truly liked. It's just that she wished everyone could be.

The Teppenpaw also had to prepare to take over Book Club as Henny was graduating. She loved to read and discuss books, and wanted to continue the club next year. It was something she truly enjoyed and looked forward to. Henny had been giving her more responsibility this year in preparation.

However, what she was worried about most was that Marcus was the one sick. It seemed there was always someone in her life she needed to take care of. Melanie didn't mind that much, she had a difficult time not being helpful because she was so used to it. It was just concerning to see someone she cared about so much not feeling well. Even now.

She needed to talk to him, to do whatever she could and try to get him to go to the Hospital Wing if she couldn't. The sixth year really didn't want him to suffer. Not that she really wanted anyone to do so, but especially not someone she cared about so much. She really really really hoped it wasn't serious.

Before she could go up to her room, she spotted her betrothed. Melanie decided to approach him. She would anyway, she'd never just walk past and not talk to him, but right now, she needed to help him any way she could.

When she reached him, he smiled wider than he had been before. Which, she had to admit, was not an entirely unusual reaction. Maybe Marcus was feeling better? Before Melanie could even greet him, he spoke to her.

“Do you want to know why I’m so happy? I’m in love.”

The last part was said in a whisper, and Melanie blushed to what felt like the tip of her toes. "I hope it's with me." She whispered back.
