Carter sat on the end of one of the couches in the Teppenpaw common room and pulled out a clean piece of parchment and a pen to write his letter home with. He had a lot to tell his parents and baby sister about since he hadn’t seen them since the winter break. He almost groaned aloud as he realized he would have to mention his “date” with Wendy so his parents would send him a set a formal dress robes. He only prayed that by addressing the letter to his father and NOT his mother that his father could keep his mother from going bonkers with the whole thing. Carter slowly let out the breath he had been holding and began writing his letter.
Dearest Mom, Dad and Payton, I realize it has been a couple of months since I have written and I expressly apologize for the oversight. I have found that my attention over this time period had been elsewhere and now that it is no longer engaged such, I have the time to sit and write a proper letter. The challenges I mentioned to you are all complete now so I can go back to focusing solely on my studies and Quidditch practice. I must confess that during part of the challenges I behaved in a manner most un-gentlemanly, but given the circumstances I feel that the behavior was more than warranted. I also mentioned to you that we are having a ball at the end of the term here at school. Before you ask…yes I have a companion for the affair and yes she is more than acceptable. “She is as far as I’m concerned,” he mumbled to himself as he continued his letter home. In regards to the fact of the ball I must request that you send to me my formal robes for the ball. If, for some reason, you feel the need to replace them…mother…I must insist that they remain a black color so I will still compliment my companion. Should you feel the need to add any sort of extra paraphernalia to what already accompanies the formal wear…mother…please for the sake of my sanity keep it simple. I do NOT wish to wear anything that you yourself would be embarrassed to be seen in. Much affection to you all, Carter
Carter knew that if he had left out how he had behaved towards Carrie that his parents would have been deeply disappointed in him for not telling them himself. He knew his mother would already be distressed to find out once she read his letter, but at least it was better than if she found out via one of her stuffy, snooty friends. Somehow his mother found out EVERYTHING! Better to confess and deal with her mini meltdown than to keep it from her and have to deal with Mount Vesuvius. He almost felt bad for comparing his mother’s tendency towards hysterics with an ancient volcano that decimated an entire roman city. He grinned slightly at his mental comparison and addressed the envelope. Mr. Andrew Browning 141 Tumbleweed Dr. Flagstaff, AZ He put away his pen and after taking his book bag back up to his dorm room, he headed out of Teppenpaw Commons towards the owlry to send his letter. He kind-of wished he didn’t have to, but it was either send it and get robes to wear for the ball or not send it and go naked. Since the idea of going naked didn’t appeal to the 12 year old, he sucked up his discomfort and sent the letter. This should be good he told himself as he watched his owl fly away out the window. He sighed heavily and headed back to the dormitory. After dancing his way back inside, he dropped into one of the overstuffed chairs and dropped his head onto the back of it, closing his eyes. He had barely started his day and he was already tired. He sighed again heavily and remained in the chair.
