As they made the tread to the entrance of the common room, he began pointing landmarks to the students. It was very important for them to pay attention so they wouldn’t get lost when they made the walk by themselves. Being lost was never a fun experience to anyone.
He finally stopped in front of the stair with the diamond-shaped chip. “Watch me closely,” he said, pointing. “It’s the only indication of the Common Room. Unlike other Houses, we don’t have a password. We have a jig.” Dylan began moving his feet in slow motion so that everyone could see it. He repeated it two more times before he opened the door and let everyone in.
“And this is the common room! Welcome home, everyone,” he said with a smile. “This is where you’ll be living for the next seven years. Up that staircase are the girls’ dormitories, up that one, the boys,” he said as he pointed each one. “Girls can’t go up the boys’ stairs and vice-versa, so don’t try it, because if you do we will have a little chat about it.”
“If you look here,” he pointed, “is the bulletin boards. You can find important notices pinned to it, plus Quidditch sign-ups will be on it shortly. If you have questions about Quidditch, you can contact Captain Kirstenna Melcher or her Assistant Kate Bauer.”
“This door leads to my office,” he added. “But you can find me in the infirmary almost any time if you have questions or just need to talk. You can also talk to your Prefects, Kate Bauer, Jane Carey, and Regina Parker.”He knew students were more likely to talk to their peers than the grown-up that was in charge of them. They were more comfortable that way, he supposed.
Dylan continued enumerating the many rules, “curfew is at ten, don’t try to outsmart me or you will end up in detention!” Dylan needed to start practicing his discipline skills. “And now that is out of the way, feel free to ask questions!” He said with his most friendly smile.
