Rowan herself had just learned the way to the Teppenpaw commons so she had been using a few land markers to get there easily. So to help her first years she pointed out the entrances to the Labyrinth Gardens, the Library, and a few of the more notable portraits and suits of armor on the way to the commons. At the bell tower, she paused and smiled. “We are almost there guys! Don’t worry it’ll get easier to remember by the end of the week.” She then began the final leg of their journey.
Just a few moments later Rowan stopped on a step and pointed to the one below her. “See the diamond-shaped chip in the center of the step?” She asked with a grin. Once everyone had nodded, she jumped down and smiled. “Good because that’s the only give away that you have arrived at your commons. Now if the whole trek to this spot isn’t bad enough, you have to do a nice little dance.”
With that she lifted up her brown robes so they could see her matching shoes she began a fifteen second jig that was necessary to gain access to the Teppenpaw commons. Once her right heel finished its last tap, the wall moved aside and the first years peeked inside. “Now each of you try it.” She said with a smile. Once everyone had done it correctly, she ushered them into the Commons. The brief entry way led into a domed room, circular in shape and decorated in varying shades of maroon and gold. The fireplace brightened with the addition of the new students, and Rown gave the new students a chance to gap a bit before speaking again.
"This is your common room. Behind you the two stair cases lead, respectively, to the male and female dormitories. There are separate stair cases for a reason: boys are not to go into the girls' side, and girls are not to go into the boys' side. Should you try, you'll be rather unpleasantly surprised. I’ve heard that whatever happens can be a bit painful.” She paused and looked around the common rooms surprised to see the Quidditch Sign Ups were already up.
“This is where any and all announcements will be put up, including the Quidditch sign ups which are already up.” She said with a smile. “So once we are done feel free to sign up I know our Quidditch Captain Hannah Laurent will appreciate it.”
"So onto the non-fun part, it’s time for the rules. Curfew is at 10pm; if you're caught breaking it, expect to lose points for your house. Points are given throughout the year and can be earned by in-school participation, accomplishments in class, Quidditch, and just about any thing else your professors might want to consider in giving them out. Don't forget, though, that you can lose them just as easily." Rowan said with a smile. could tell attention was waning and so he hurried through the last portion of the spiel, his own weariness starting to grow heavier. "Breakfast starts serving at 6am, and here are your class schedules. If you ever need anything, I'm right behind that door there. For right now, though, I'm all ears: any questions, comments, or concerns please voice them now.”
