Captain Hannah Laurent

November 08, 2009 10:39 PM
Start of term signaled that time of year. The time when the all-important Quidditch sign-ups went up and when Hannah worried if they would even get a full team. Last year, she had been lucky and had been able to fill all of the spots. She was hoping that her luck would continue for her second year of running the team. She still had no idea how Jake and Dalila had managed to do so well and wish she had a bit of their persuasion techniques or whatever it was that got people interested.

As it stood, hopefully posting up the sign-up sheet would be enough of an encouragement. At least it looked halfway decent. She had drawn stars along the border edges in the Teppenpaw colors of yellow and maroon. While in her fairly legible writing, she had put the following:

Teppenpaw Quidditch Team Sign-Ups

If interested in trying out for the Teppenpaw Quidditch team, please sign your name below along with your year and the position you’re interested in. Preference will be given to returning players, however, all skill levels are encouraged!

– Captain Hannah Laurent, Sixth Year, Seeker

Stepping back, she admired her handiwork for a moment before heading off to start the rest of her day.

Andrew Duell

November 11, 2009 8:11 PM
Andrew had finished settling back in at Sonora, and was now killing some time in the common room. He saw a new announcement posted and decided to investigate. Turns out the sheet was for Quidditch try outs. He hadn't tried out last year, he had figured that getting to know the school would keep him busy enough without extra-curricular activities. This year though... maybe he would try out. His father was a huge Quidditch fan. That had confused Andrew a bit when he learned; his father wasn't really into any sports, and magic was not part of his world at all, but for some reason he enjoyed Quidditch. Andrew signed his name on this sheet.

Andrew Duell Second Year Any position

He'd give it a shot, his flying wasn't great, but he could still try out. Hopefully he wouldn't seriously injure himself.

Tobar Brishen

November 13, 2009 4:10 PM
Tobar skipped down to the common room that day to see the Quidditch sign up. Of course he would be trying out! His family held matches all the time and he wouldn’t get through a full year without playing! He grinned as he dug through his bag and found the ink and quill. He chewed on his quill for a few moments and then decided to write.

Tobar Brishen – first year – Beater/Chaser/Keeper (good at all three)

Josiah

November 16, 2009 6:16 PM
Josiah was excited for this year. After all, he was almost at the top of the Sonora metaphorical food chain. He was a sixth year, almost done with school. Thank goodness for that one. After all, he loved school so much, but being out of school meant getting away from his family and his destiny. When he was out of school he could run away, be disowned, not have to inherit the family line and most definitely not have to marry Chrysi Elaine Silverleaf! Who would want to live a life where he wasn’t even allowed to see his wonderful baby cousin? Just because she’s a half blood? Josiah was going to be glad to get rid of all of that.

Which is why he relished playing quidditch. Quidditch was the forbidden fruit that he was happy to partake of. He loved the rush of being a player. His sharpshooter was his favorite possessions and it almost seemed to respond to his thoughts instead of the way he moved his hands. Not to mention the muscles that quidditch gave him. After all, his shirts now stretched over him in a very attractive way from how his beater arms had developed. It was amazing. His usual untidy mess of red hair gave him a certain charm that Josiah adored. He really had grown into an attractive young man if he said so himself.

He wrote his name on the sign ups in his usual untidy scrawl:

Josiah James Ashwood, year six, beater preferred, will do keeper if needed.

There, done and done. Now to go find some attractive damsel to woo. This was going to be an awesome year!

Elliot Valentine

Elliot looked at the Quidditch sign-up sheet. A few people had already signed up, from the looks of it. A smile formed on his lips at the sight of stars in Teppenpaw's colors. They may not win the Cup, but he had to admit that Hannah definitely had team spirit. It sucked that first years were now allowed to be on the team, since he wasn't allowed to play his first year. It was unfair. Sighing, he placed the tip of his quill on the sheet and let it rest for a second, so that a small black dot appeared; then he grinned and wrote his name as neat as he could.

Amber Carey

December 09, 2009 9:25 AM
If she was to be perfectly honest with herself, Amber knew she could spend every waking, non-class minute from now to RATS studying and still not make the perfect Os her father had dropped a few hints about expecting. If she decided to try brutal honesty, she knew she couldn't study all that time and even make straight Es. She just wasn't great at school, and considering how well in the head and family situation those of her cousins who had been were doing now that they were in the real world, she wasn't sure she even wanted to be. Looking like an airhead seemed an easy price to pay for not getting shipped off to Europe or med school the minute she graduated.

Even if studying was removed from the equation, there were still things she needed to do this year. Like search for a clue as to what she would be doing next year. She couldn't live off her father forever, and somehow, she thought he'd consider working in a shop beneath the dignity expected of a Carey. As much as she disagreed with some of his values, she did kind of like the guy; getting unceremoniously drop-kicked out of his family would hurt a little. This problem had been bothering her for a few years now, but becoming a seventh year meant she really didn't have any more time to pretend it was going to go away for her.

And yet...

Well, she didn't like starting things and then just never finishing them. As much of a lazy princess as she'd half-willingly drifted into being over the past six years, she still remembered the sort of work ethic her mom and other family had preached about to no end when she was a little girl. Plus, Quidditch was one of the few places she could actually interact with other people and not think if they were making mental commentaries on her surname. Another - most likely worse - thing she'd developed at Sonora was a bit of a complex about being a Carey and what, to certain people, that implied.

Hitting things was also a good way to relieve exam stress. There was always that.

Yeah, she was going back in for the Quidditch team.
