Attention seventh years! by Headmistress Powell

On the noticeboard in every House commonroom was a new notice. Each was identical, and called the attention of the oldest students in the school. It read:

ATTENTION SEVENTH YEARS

An opportunity has arisen for any interested seventh years to gain teaching experience within this school. Supervised by a staff member, seventh year students may work on their own or in a pair to plan and execute a lesson for the younger students. If you would like to be involved, please sign your name below, along with the classes you would be happy to cover.

If you require more details, please see the Headmistress or your Head of House. Thank you.

Below this short note was ample space for any seventh year students to sign their name.

Signing up. by Alexandra St. Martin

Sonora was not known for its number of tenured faculty, the Teppenpaws were not known for their participation in school events, and Allie St. Martin was not known for lacking much in the way of sensitivity. In previous years, this had very frequently taken the form of crybaby moments. These days, a far more common result was doing things she knew she really shouldn't because of vague feelings of sadness, guilt, and, when it came to school events, pity for the poor people who were trying to run them.

It didn't help that giving in to such feelings while Pepper and Eavan were trying to pull the Concert together had gone quite well. Daddy hadn't been entirely pleased - Teppenpaw, it had to be said, wasn't the most pureblooded of Houses at most times, and the Gwen scandal had made everyone a little paranoid - but he had mostly only been mad at Lila, and she had very much enjoyed herself.

The Concert, of course, was a very different affair from a classroom, but she felt the same pity for the Headmistress as she had for her roommate at seeing no one join in. That had to be embarrassing, to put out an invitation and then, after it was too late to take it back, have it ignored. It was almost a moral obligation to jump in, just to save the administration from the humiliation. Besides, helping with this would perform a significant service for Sonora, which was a good thing.

That argument convinced her, but she was still careful to sign up when no one was really around. She didn't want to look like a show-off.
