Midterm Blues by Briony O'Leary

Briony sat huddled in an overstuffed chair near a window. Her legs were curled beneath her and her freckled face was turned towards the outside. It was now midterm, a time that she hated, because it meant that she was all alone. She hated to be alone. Without a mother, a father that was always busy, and a lack of friends, she was already alone, but at least with the other people around, laughing in their little groups, she could pretend to be apart of something, but now people were leaving, going home to their families.

Footsteps heard, she looked towards those that had entered. More happy chatter, more that she would never be involved in. She gave a small unhappy sigh, her shoulders followed suit. One of the group locked eyes with hers and started to come over.

Not knowing what to do, Briony quickly looked away until she heard a voice behind her. In a daze, she turned around once more.

"Um, sorry, what?" She asked nervously, hoping the other person didn't think she was a total dork.\n\n

Duna na na na OooOo! Lol. by Melanie Rose

Melanie was able to stay as her caretakers wrote to her giving her the choice. She had noticed someone near her window spot she loved to claim when ever possible. She didn't want to be rude nor did she want to claim something that was technically not hers, She had moved from behind the girls sitting area and sat across from her looking out the same window.

"I asked, 'What's up?'" Melanie smiled letting her feet hang over the arm of the chair.

((sorry its short but I gtg.))\n\n

A deep blush rose to her cheeks. Of course the other girl probably thought she was dumb as a doorknob, if she couldn't even manage to respond to a simple 'What's up?'

Trying to redeem herself, but failing, Briony managed a stuttered, "Uh, nothing much. Just sitting here thinking about how boring midterm is going to be since everyone seems to be going home."

She gave an internal groan. Why couldn't she be more confident? She saw other girls that had no qualms talking to other people. She had the social grace of a hippo.

Trying to be and sound sure of herself, she smiled at the other girl, "What's new with you?"

Briony realized how lame that sounded. Of course, everything would be new about the other girl. She didn't know anything about her. She could feel her face getting red again and quickly looked towards the floor.\n\n
