I'm being stalked! by Juliet Lee

Juliet's charcoal grey eyes scanned the Teppenpaw Common Room, a small sigh escaping her lips. She missed her home already. Not the one in New York, which was nothing but a decrepit old apartment with cockroaches roaming up the walls. No, she missed her childhood home in Japan. With it's simple white walls decorated with paintings of mountain and river landscapes, sliding screen doors, samurai swords hanging in her father's study and practically immaculate carpets covering the mahogany floors. Sonora was nice. But it wasn't home.

Her eyes soon rested on a maroon couch situated in the middle of the room. Dropping her luggage, Juliet immediately raced to the piece of furniture and leaped onto its cushy pillows. She raised her arms and placed them behind her head, staring up at the ceiling. She closed her eyes for a second, trying to supress the urge to leap out of the window and run home to her mother.

This was her chance to make friends and not depend on her mother so much. It was a chance for her to become independent and maybe forget about her troubles at home. This wasn't a punishment. It was an opportunity. One that she had to take. Juliet opened her eyes...

...and saw someone's face located a few inches above her! Letting out a squeak, Juliet tried to jerk away...and ended up slipping off the edge of the sofa and tumbling onto the floor. Despite the fact that it was carpeted, Juliet still got a nasty bruise on her shoulder.

"Ow..."\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

or maybe not by Robbie Bates

Robbie had started searching for the Teppenpaw Common Room as soon as he could. He couldn't wait to get out his guitar, he was feeling pretty homesick. With a grin from success in finding his common room all on his own, he ran up to the boys dormitory. It wasn't hard to spot it among the luggage, not that there was very much. Guitar cases were shaped differently than suitcases after all.

He pulled the case out from the pile, and sat it down on one of the beds. He opened the case to check on the condition of the guitar. He was afraid it would have been damaged from the ride, or if a string popped off from the heat. Luckily, it was in good condition, ready to be tuned. He snapped up the suitcase, deciding to take it down and play some guitar before everyone got here. It was heavy, but Robbie was used to its weight.

When he got down the stairs, he immediately put down case, running a hannd through his now slightly sweaty mass of brown hair. He saw a girl sitting on one of the couches, looking a bit upset. Robbie walked over to her to see what was the problem.

Just as he was about to ask her what was wrong, she jumped up and fell on the floor. He blushed a little, he supposed he had startled her.

"I'm sorry if I scared you," he apologized, "I was just going to ask you why you were upset, and then...," his voice began to trail off, and then he asked, "Well- not that you have to tell me if you don't want to, but why are you upset?"\n\n

Meh, close enough by Juliet Lee

Juliet felt her face heat up from embarrassment. She hoped whoever had interuppted her trance iddn't notice her blush but that was impossible with her milky skin. It was so pale it was practically transparent at times. She looked up and came face-to-face with a boy who looked about her age and had messy, brown hair. Oh great. Not only did she make a fool of herself but she did it in front of a member of the opposite gender. Juliet wasn't very good when it came to boys. This one seemed nice enough though.

"Well- not that you have to tell me if you don't want to, but why are you upset?"

Juliet bit her lip. She wasn't going to spill her guts in front of someone she barely knew. Heck, she didn't even reveal secrets like this to close friends.

"I-It's nothing important. I suppose I just really miss my home. Thanks for asking, though."

However, she didn't want to be rude or anything and make the boy angry at her. Juliet decided to introduce herself. Plastering a fake cheerful expression on her face, she smiled at him.

"I'm Juliet Lee. What's your name?"

dragging a guitar around is no fun by Robbie Bates

Robbie wasn't completely clueless. He could tell that the smile was fake, and that the problem really was important. However, Robbie was never one to push an issue, especially with personal things.

"Robbie Bates is my name. And, if you ever do want to talk about it, I do have ears under the mass of hair on my head," he joked, giving a grin, and brushing back a mess of hair on the left side of his head, revealing an ear. He never liked it when the people around him were upset, it got him upset too. Even if he didn't know why the person was upset. It was just a habit of his.

Robbie eyed his guitar case. Would it be rude to just go up and get it?

"Just a minute," he said, and he got up, dragged the guitar case over to where Juliet was sitting and sat back down on the floor again.

"You know, one day, I'm going to learn a charm to summon this, and I will be very happy," he commented, "So, what kind of stuff do you like to do?"\n\n

*drags a grand piano around* by Juliet Lee

Juliet felt a wave of relief overcome her body when Robbie didn't push the subject of her grief. She hated it when people were always prodding into her life and bothering her with questions on why she looked so solemn.

A small giggle escaped her lips when Robbie made a joke about his ears. She immediately felt comfortable around him, which was a magnificent feat for anyone. Juliet wasn't the type of person to warm up to anyone that quickly. It took weeks and weeks to break her outer shell and get her to say anything serious.

Juliet was interuppted from her reverie once again when she saw Robbie drag a guitar case toward her sitting area. She perked up at the familiar muggle device.

"You play guitar? That's so cool. I've always wanted to learn but I lack the patience. And the skill." She blurted out, not even thinking about it. She then immediately regretted it, hoping Robbie didn't think she was annoying.

"So, what kind of stuff do you like to do?"

That was safe. He had asked a question so surely he wouldn't be mad if she answered. It would be rude to just ignore him.

"I'm not very picky. Climb trees, swim in lakes, lay on the grass and watch clouds. Basically anything outdoors is great."

That was one of the reasons why she hated moving to New York so much. Concrete and cement just didn't possess the same appeal as a tall tree did.

with magic, you could probably do that by Robbie

OOC- So sorry I didn't post sooner!! I thought I had, then I checked back and realized my computer must have deleted it or something, then I had to write it again!

BIC: Robbie had to say he was suprised. He didn't take Juliet to be the outdoor type of person. But then, people could suprise you. Who would expect a nice-guy kind of personality like him to enjoy an agressive sport like hockey, and be decent at it as well?

"I used to climb this one big tree at home when I was younger. Then one day I fell and broke my arm, so I never climbed trees again. Then my mom tried to get me to do safe indoor stuff, like playing the violin, which I hated. My first bit of magic was breaking that violin to chucks of wood so that I would never have to play it again. My mom went balistic, though. But she was happy at the same time, because I was the first of all of my siblings to do magic. It was kind of funny to watch, actually," he said his voice trailing off. The next bit of magic had been done by his cousins, the triplets. He grinned, Sonora would be in for a suprise when they came in two years.\n\n

Juliet was a bit taken back by Robbie's extremely long monologue. She smiled. Oddly enough, she enjoyed it when she was having a conversation with someone who liked to talk a lot. She hated awkward silences and it gave her more topics to respond to.

"I've never broken a single bone in my body so I can't relate to you on the whole arm-breaking situation. But I offer you my sympathy."

Juliet hesitated to tell Robbie about her first experience with magic. She had always tried to push it into the deep recesses of her mind, never to be called upon again. But when she had told Gwen and Laura, they hadn't shunned her or anything. They had merely laughed along. And Robbie seemed like a reasonable person...

"My first bit of magic was when this rude colleague of my father's came over our house and began insulting everything about us. He really infuriated me and I guess I lost control of my anger. My father kept this samurai sword and I somehow levitated it off the wall and it headed straight for the guy."

Despite herself, a small sly grin spread across Juliet's face.

"Let's just say that the man almost had a free castration."\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

*hums along* by Robbie

Robbie couldn't help himself, he had to laugh. Juliet's story wawss by far the funniest "first magic" story he had ever heard. Of course, he had only heard of his mother's and some of her ex-siblings' and cousins' (her family had long since disowned her). His mother talked very little about her family, so Robbie remembered very well all the things she had ever said about them.

Regaining control of himself, he smirked, "I think I will be sure never to insult you or your family, especially since we'll be learning jinxes and stuff like that this year. Well, not that I would insult your family in the first place," he added quickly, "But well, your story sounds way more interesting than any I've heard in the past."

Robbie had to say he was worried. He had never done really big magic, aside from the exploding violin. He hada been suprised when he had gotten his acceptance letter from Sonora. He was afraid that everyone would be far ahead of him, and that he would never be able to get anything right.

"So, are you worried for classes tomorrow?" he asked, not able to hide his worries. But if someone else said that they were also a bit scared about classes, it would be sort of reassuring in a strange sort of way.\n\n

The sound of Robbie's boisterous laughter echoed across the Common Room and warmed Juliet's heart considerably.

"I think I will be sure never to insult you or your family, especially since we'll be learning jinxes and stuff like that this year. Well, not that I would insult your family in the first place. But well, your story sounds way more interesting than any I've heard in the past."

Juliet couldn't help it; a light shade of pink crept up the sides of her cheeks. She had never thought of herself as an entertaining person so to have someone of the opposite gender laugh at one of her jokes was an exceptional compliment.

"So, are you worried for classes tomorrow?"

Was she worried? Was she worried? Hell yes, Juliet was worried. She had spent countless nights at home, afraid that she would make a fool of herself in classes due to her lack of knowledge about the wizarding world.

"To tell you the truth...I'm terrified. I'm afraid that I won't know the answer to anything and I'll end up far behind everyone else."\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

my computer is on the dark side I tell you! (nevermind that) by Robbie

OOC: the author is annoyed and took annoyance out on the subject of the post. Thank you for your consideration.

BIC: Robbie couldn't help but be glad someone felt the way he did. Misery enjoys company, after all. But he supposed he shouldn't be too suprised, Lily said that school was the number one cause of stress in American teens and pre-teens. Of course, random facts like those proved how smart his sister was, and Robbie would bet anything that school didn't stress her life. In fact, he thought she might actually enjoy the evils that were science and English. If anything, Robbie was glad that his science education would be ending, now that he was at Sonora.

"Personally, I was suprised to get my acceptance letter. I was the first of all my siblings to show magic and all, but I thought for sure I was going to be a Squib. My mom was proud though, she's a witch, so she's glad to have the magical trait being passed on. It's annoying, my sister's been doing all this research about magic now, and knows all this pointless information," ranted Robbie, well, a rant for him, "Like, did you know Andros the Invincible was the only known wizard to produce a Patronus the size of a giant? She looks up pointless stuff like that".\n\n

Juliet chuckled good-naturedly in response to Robbie's ranting soliloquoy. She thought it was cute how siblings always complained about one another when, in retrospect, they truly loved each other underneath all the insults.

"My condolences. I'm an only child so I don't really know what it's like to have siblings. Although, from what I hear, it's not that great of an experience."

Another thing that provoked an interest in Juliet was when Robbie mentioned that he previously thought he was a Squib. That obviously meant that he lived in the Muggle world.

"I'm guessing you're Muggleborn then. I am too. There's apparently a lot of people here in Sonora who are prejudiced."\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

"Yah, I am a halfie," he said, a bit uncomfortably, "And personally, I don't really care about blood and stuff like that. It's a waste of thought."

Robbie picked up his guitar and sat it on his lap. Nervously, he began to fidget with the tuners. He hated talking about blood, because it did matter to him. It was the reason he didn't know his grandparents, and an unknown amount of aunts, uncles, and cousins. It was the same old story, his mother disobeyed their purebloods only rule, and they got rid of her. It had never really bothered him, since he had had so little to do with magic before Sonora. But now he had first hand experience that people were people, magic or no, and people were all equal. He couldn't understand why anyone would be disowned for marrying a muggle, it seemed so silly.

But then, he reminded himselv, they were only humans. And humans raised their self-esteem by putting down others to make themselves feel superior. He inwardly smirked, he really did need to spend less time listening to Lilly.\n\n

"Yah, I am a halfie. And personally, I don't really care about blood and stuff like that. It's a waste of thought."

Juliet noticed how awkward Robbie's actions were as he spoke and she realized that it was probably a sensitive topic for him. She could completely relate. There was a TRUCKLOAD of topics that Juliet always felt uncomfortable talking about. She figured the best approach would be to change the subject. Her eyes scanned the room for something to talk about and she noticed Robbie's fingers nervously handling the tuners of his guitar.

An idea popped into her head but she immediately felt ashamed of herself. What if he thought she was being rude? She certainly didn't want a nice guy like Robbie thinking she was annoying. Then again, she was rather curious...

"Can you play something? Like...right now? I-If you don't want to, that's ok. It's only a suggestion. I'm just a little curious because I've never known anyone who could play the guitar."\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

you're quite welcome by Robbie

Well, he had come down to the common room to practice. And he was just itching to play his guitar. Everything just felt like it was going to be okay when he played it. Of course, that didn't stop the self-concious feeling he got whenever he played in front of someone. He couldn't help it, it was just there.

"Alright, I'll play," he nodded, "Just give me a second to tune up. Do you have any requests in mind?" Fishing in his pocket, he successfully picked out a guitar pick. It was a pretty simple, ordinary guitar pick, black as midnight. He put it on his finger and began to tune up. Instantly he felt like he was back at home in New York, and not somewhere in Arizona, a place he didn't know. He thought it was funny how just strumming a guitar could do that to you. Just like magic.

After a few minutes of fiddling around with the tuners, he finally deemed it satisfactory for use. 'Man, it's good to be back playing a guitar,' he thought to himself, then said aloud, "So, did you make up your mind?"\n\n

"Alright, I'll play. Just give me a second to tune up. Do you have any requests in mind?"
Did she have any requests? That depended. Juliet enjoyed music as much as the next person but she never considered the type of music she listened to as "mainstream". Many times she would be gushing to her friends about this new song she heard that she absolutely love-love-loved, only to be met with blank stares.

"So, did you make up your mind?"

"Why don't you choose your favorite song and play it? Most of my music is basically underground bands or composers that no one's ever heard of." \r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

A million possibilities came up in Robbie's head. There were just so many songs to choose from! He decided on one that was pretty popular, maybe Juliet would know it. Besides, it also seemed kind of appropriate for the time. Robbie wouldn't actually sing the words, he never liked his voice.

"Okay, do you know the song Good Riddance? It's by Green Day, you've probably heard of them, they came out with a cd pretty recently," said Robbie. With that introduction he began playing his guitar. It felt really good to beplaying again, his eyes looking downward at it as he played, and his messy hair getting in his eyes. Lucky for him he knew the song pretty well, his hair kept getting in the way. He really should cut it sometime.

He finished, and was proud to say there were only a couple of mistakes, but he didn't think they were completely noticable. "So," he asked, "How'd I do?"\n\n

"Okay, do you know the song Good Riddance? It's by Green Day, you've probably heard of them, they came out with a cd pretty recently."

Ah yes, Green Day. The epitome of "punk rock". She considered them to be a decent band but they weren't exactly her favorite. However, their songs were fairly well-known and even a musical hermit like Juliet had heard of their song, "Good Riddance."

As Robbie expertly plucked the strings, Julet noticed how his previous awkward persona faded and he became swept into the music. She understood how much he loved his music. It was the same with her and nature. As the notes flitted out into the open and shivered, she could almost picture the lyrics writing themselves in the air.

"It's something unpredictable...
But in the end it's right...
I hope you had the time of your life.

When the final chords of the song were played, Juliet flashed Robbie an appreciative smile and clapped lightly. When he asked for her opinion on his skills, she decided to use the line that her friends always spouted out whenever they watched her write calligraphy.

"You know, I happen to have a small inferiority complex and you're not exactly helping me out here."

Now that Juliet had a small idea of what Robbie's taste in music was, she decided to divulge a small portion of the more popular bands she listened to.

"Do you know any songs from the Killers? Or My Chemical Romance?"\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Robbie knew those groups. Okay, he only knew six songs between them, but that still counted as knowing- right? At least he thought so. It was a lot better than not knowing them at all, right?

"Well, a lot of the Killers' songs confuse me, and I know about My Chemical Romance," Robbie nodded, "Never really tried to play any of their songs, though." He attempted to play a bit of a My Chemical Romance song from memory. It didn't really work out. He stopped playing, he would need to hear it again and have the song fresh in his mind before he figure out the notes.

"I'll listen to some of their songs over Chistmas vacation, and all try to learn one for you. Do you think wizards have their own music groups, or do they just listen to muggle ones?" he asked the question he hada been curious about since he got here. It would be interesting to listen to, if they had their own styles. Since he was here, why not soak up the culture?
