[First Year Girls' Dorm] Arriving Late... by Aricia Carrington

Sighing, Aricia moved towards the only bed left in her new room and began to unpack. She had arrived a couple days late to begin her first year studying magic since she had been on vacation with her parents in Europe. It had been a time for them to spend their last month together before she was off to learn.

She wiped a tear away before placing a picture of her parents next to her bed. She wanted to keep them close to her. She was already homesick. She was eager to learn magic and wished she could have just packed up her parents along with all of her other belongings.

When she finished unpacking, Aricia headed for the restroom. She wanted to run some cool water over her face to help sooth her. Upon returning, she heard a loud 'thump' from outside the door.

Cautiously, she opened the door, and called out, "Hello?"\n\n

Welcome! by Fawn Summers

Smiling gratefully as an older student she didn't know let her in the common room with the difficult jig, Fawn heaved her heavy bookbag up the stairs to the girl's dorm. One day, she promised, she would get the hang of that darn jig and be able to get in on her own!

Pushing the door open to the first years' room, the raven-haired girl trudged in and collapsed on top of her bed tiredly, dropping her bag with a 'thump' onto the floor. What a day, and so much homework! She really needed to learn a lightening charm for her schoolbooks!

Just as she turned her head to look out the window, the Cherokee girl saw that there was an empty suitcase on the previously unoccupied bed and a picture frame on the stand. Their last roommate must've arrived today, that was good. She wondered where she was the first two days of term. All of a sudden, startling her out of her thoughts, an unfamiliar voice came from the direction of the bathroom, "Hello?"

Turning towards the sound, she saw a strange face. This must be the new girl, she thought logically. "Hi there," she said, putting on a friendly smile, "My name's Fawn, Fawn Summers. Who are you, if I might ask?"\n\n

Thanks! by Aricia

'That must have been where the loud noise had come from,' Aricia thought, looking towards the large bookbag near the dark-haired girl.

Giving a tentative smile towards the girl, she said, "I'm Aricia Carrington. Um, I was supposed to be here a couple days ago, but my family and I were delayed in Europe. Well, not really delayed, but wanted to get a couple more things in before we left. I take it that you are a first year too?"

Aricia hoped the girl was. She also hoped that the girl was friendly, and she might a her first friend here. She was extrememly nervous from not arriving with all the other first years. She was worried that everyone had already formed groups and she would be left without a friend for the next seven years. She knew she was probably being silly, but she just couldn't help feeling that way.

Glad to have ya aboard, matey! by Fawn

Fawn liked the new girl the instant she introduced herself, she was pleasant enough and seemed like a nice person. She seemed a bit nervous, but that was to be expected. "It's very nice to meet you, Aricia," she said. "And yes, I'm a firstie. Guilty as charged, I'm afraid. Welcome to your humble abode that I'm sure we'll both be sick of seing by the time we graduate."

"Don't feel bad about being late, you didn't miss much." she continued. "We had flying lessons, though, so if you don't know how to use a broom you might want to catch up on that. I myself didn't have too good a time, but that's just me." She refrained from revealing that she had smashed into the Quidditch hoop and plummeted to the ground, ending up in the Infirmary.

It was extremely horrifying, not to mention painful and embarassing. Imagine having to go to see the nurse on the first day for flying headlong into a pole. And if Aricia hadn't been on a broom before, she didn't want to horribly frighten her with tales of injury and pain.

She decided that she'd better change the topic from flying before her mind started wandering to the horrific crash. Let's see, classes were a safe enough topic, right? One wasn't usually injured in class, unless one takes a potion and explodes oneself or something. And so far she hadn't done that. "So," she started, "Looking forward to start classes? I myself can't wait for the Care of Magical Creatures one, our first lesson's tomorrow!"

Should I take port or starboard? *grin* by Aricia

"It's a relief to know I didn't miss much. It's too bad I missed flying. I enjoy it. My dad taught me how. We fly around our yard in the summer months," Aricia told her new friend. "I'm looking forward to learning about magical creatures, though. I also can't wait to take potions. It sounds like the chemistry class I had to take in elementary."

She was about to continue when her stomach let out a loud rumble. Her cheeks blushed a deep pink. What an embarrassing thing to do in front of this girl!

"Sorry about that. I haven't eaten anything in awhile," Aricia said sheepishly.
