Amelle looked over the list of students who had signed up for the Helper positions. Over all, it wasn’t too terrible, except that she only had one advance student, who had apparently elected herself as the Head Monitor despite the fact that it was an elected position awarded by Amelle to those she chose best represented the role. She would have to reword the poster next term to make sure they understood it wasn’t something that they signed up for. In this case though, Melanie was the only Advance student, therefore, making her the Head Monitor by default. Amelle didn’t know if this was a good thing or a bad thing. Amelle probably would have chosen her as one of them regardless considering Melanie signed up every year to help out.
She had struggled to work out the schedule where everyone was working equally and with various partners. She knew that she was probably overusing Melanie, but without another Head Monitor, there was little she could do about it. Thankfully, if Melanie needed study time, she could do it while at the desk watching over the library. Of course, their hours were flexible. She only needed assistance during the evenings and the occasional mealtime and during the weekend hours. She thought all things considered, they were only giving her a few hours a week and since it was in the library, they could still get their school work done during their down time.
She pinned the schedule up behind the desk for the Helpers to see with a quick note so that they didn’t get upset thinking she was taking all their free time away. She would also discuss with Melanie her role and let her know that although her name is on the list for both parts of the weekend days, she only need to appear for an hour or so during each period to ensure things are going well. Of course, she was more than welcome to stay longer than that, but she wasn’t obligated too.
Below is the schedule for the Library Helpers. Please note that you are to appear in the library during your scheduled times. Monitors are to help check books in and out of the library, organize the books in the stacks, answer any questions that fellow students may have, and complete occasional errands that may be needed. Assistants will return the books to their rightful place in the stacks and assist the Library Monitor with whatever duties that needs to be filled.
Weekday hours are from 7:00pm to 9:45pm (to allow you time to return to your Houses before curfew). Weekend hours are separated by two separate hour shifts. First shift is from 1:00pm to 4:45pm and the second shift is from 5:00pm to 9:45pm. You do not have to stay for the full five hours of your schedule and I would recommend the Head Monitor to divvy up the time between each Monitor and Assistant so that everyone is working an equal amount of time throughout their scheduled appearances.
Any questions, please do not hesitate to ask. If you are concerned about your hours or it causes a conflict for you, please let me or the Head Monitor know immediately so that the schedule can be adjusted.
