It wasn't as though Willow didn't care about anything anymore. She really did, she cared about making friends and getting good grades yet, even though the Teppenpaw wasn't sure she was doing so well on the former. She did everything she could not to develop issues, like Autumn's or otherwise. She didn't want to deal with having problems herself. Willow was even worried she'd not been nice enough to Gemma because she hadn't been in the mood to handle how happy and cheerful the other girl usually was.
And naturally, she was absolutely terrified-though not at all surprised-about Autumn, who was still in the hospital. Actually, come to think of it, she hadn't seen her older sister in about a year. She'd left in September for her third year, then Autumn had been hospitalized in December, obviously having relapsed again sometime in between. Now, she was a fourth year and her sister was still in the hospital.
Of, course, given the condition the former Crotalus was probably in, Willow wasn't entirely sure she wanted to actually see her. When Autumn had been hospitalized the time prior to this one, the fourth year had been the one to find her and it had been really horrifying, she'd even had nightmares. Still did, occasionally.
Maybe that was why her parents didn't want to tell her when things happened to Autumn beyond the stuff she really did need to know. Willow was coming to understand this as a possibility. Not that it did much to stop her from worrying anyway, her mind from imagining things. She still found herself unable to get through any information on the condition because, knowing how sick her sister was, she just imagined the worst. That wasn't necessarily her tendency in general, just when it came to Autumn.
Willow didn't really want to be like this. She wanted to be able to focus on other things, develop other interests, learn who she was apart from it. This disease hadn't just taken over Autumn's life but all of theirs. She really didn't think the situation would change and the only way it would be much much worse. Something that she could barely stand the thought of. Something that terrified her.
She shook her head, not letting those ideas settle before turning back to her Defense text. The Teppenpaw wasn't all that bothered by the current situation with the weird clouds and lack of staff, aside from owls being unable to get in or out and not being able to recieve or send letters. She wanted to make sure that Autumn would know she cared and she needed Lily's support herself. Truth be told, Willow felt very alone, but she just was not able to confide in anyone here at Sonora really.
So she pulled back, was isolated. It wasn't what she wanted, not really. She wanted friends, to be around others and normal, but she would not humiliate her sister or family. Nor would she be a downer to others, because they wouldn't like her anyway. Granted, Willow felt she'd be able to make the best of it and even get her mind off things if she could find something better than reading or studying to distract her. In truth, she craved that desperately.
The Teppenpaw sighed and went back to her studying and trying to keep her mind from wandering. It wasn't long, however, that she sensed someone standing next to her, and looked up.
Olivier wasn't too keen on the purple clouds. They were ugly. Hideous even. Nothing like the clouds in Wales that he actually (almost) enjoyed looking at. And what they accompanied was worse- no staff. What annoyed him even more than the lack of staff, however, was the faux authority the upperclassmen were trying to install. The upperclassmen were only a few years older than the rest of them (even the seventh years were only six years older than the first years and that was smaller than the age gap between his parents) and acting like they owned the place now that the staff had disappeared- quite literally, he added in his head. Just because there was no legitimate staff didn’t mean they were in charge- though he did suppose that the Head Girl and Boy badges had to mean something.
It was starting to get ridiculous- the upperclassmen were all acting like the rest of them were either stupid or naive. Olivier was neither. Earlier that day in Charms, an older boy had come in and, although seemingly nice, he had obviously been hiding something from them. That thought was enough to peeve Olivier. Just because they were the youngest class didn't mean the upperclassmen should attempt to keep them in the dark. He wasn't sure what type of idiots the others were (he refused to think of them as peers, although he knew he’d eventually have to refer to them as such whilst in conversation with other people) but anyone could tell there was something out of the ordinary occurring, even Lena could have figured it out. He just hoped she wasn't fretting too much. Being in a different house was starting to become a hassle, how he supposed to shield her from the morons in the school without being near her he didn’t know. He would have to start getting creative if he couldn't think of something soon.
Olivier had been sitting on his back in his neatly made bed (just because there were no adults didn’t mean they had to live like heathens) thinking about this when the thought occurred to him. The library ought to hold some sort of answer and besides, he had always found that quiet places tended to help him find better solutions to his problems, so Olivier packed his book bag with a notebook, quill and ink pot, and set off for the library.
He pushed open the large doors, closing his eyes and inhaling the scent of old books deeply. Just because he was a bit of a cynic didn’t mean he could occasionally be sentimental. Anyway, at least being in the library would mean he wasn’t with the less intelligent populace- anyone sitting in the library when there were no professors to enforce the rules probably was looking to get away from the power-hungry novice “leaders” and for that, Olivier was willing to at least partially hold them to a higher regard than the other children of the school.
He looked around for the history section that would hold books on the school; perhaps one would have an old map with secret passageways. Although he had already memorized the map that came with the school brochure when he first got his acceptance letter, if he could find out some more information on Sonora’s layout, he thought he might be able to figure out a way to stick close to Lena without having to run across the school all day like a lost puppy.
To Olivier’s dismay, though, the library didn't seem to be ordered very well. At least not how he would have done it. Olivier looked around for a few minutes, walking down the aisles, making mental note of some rather dry looking textbooks his peers would scoff at (which, to be perfectly honest, was the only reason he was interested in them) before deciding that it would be more efficient to just ask someone. Luckily for him he had seen a girl at one of the nearby tables. He paused for a moment taking a breath to get into character. He was a little upset that his tranquil “me-time” in his head would have to be interrupted by extending pleasantries to someone else as his outer character, but it had to be done if he wanted to find those books. After a moment, he walked over and stood in front of where the girl was sitting.
"Excuse me," he asked in a polite voice, making sure to accompany the line with an agreeable smile. “But you wouldn’t happen to know where the Sonora history section is, would you?"
OOC: Permission to talk about Lena granted by her author- they’re twins so he’s not being creepy, cross our hearts! Also, sorry in advance if Olivier thinks anything rather rude about Willow. He’s not a very nice boy.
The person who'd interrupted her studies-not that she truly minded-turned out to be an unfamiliar looking younger boy, probably one of the first years and not one in Teppenpaw. Willow put on a smile that was actually somewhat genuine. Distraction! Even a temporary one was good. She needed them, any way she could get them.
Plus, she could be helpful. Even though she was a fourth year, and thus not able to teach classes, the current state of the school meant people needed to pull together and be there for one another. Do what one could. Actually, she wished she was older. She needed something to throw herself into. If only Willow could be of more use.
Maybe they'd have sign ups for people to help out in the library again and maybe Evan would start up Art Club again. If the staff came back. She briefly wondered what would happen if they didn't. While Willow was not currently bothered too much by their absence, she would hate to think of them never returning. Sonora would likely close then and that idea rather unsettled her. She had to at least be optimistic about this . That they'd be back.
She focused her attention back on the boy. "I'd be glad to help. It's right this way." The fourth year began to walk towards the History section. She knew her way around the library very well by now. Maybe she should also join Book Club. Hopefully Henny and Melanie would start that up again too. The other Teppenpaw would probably be the easier one to talk to, Henny and the other prefects and the Head Students were so busy right now.
However, Willow needed something to throw herself into.Perhaps multiple things. Autumn was not going to truly get better ever and she would continue to need to keep busy and keep her mind off the situation the best she could. She would not, though, become her sister. She would not try to be perfect. Just busy.
"The books about Sonora history are right here." Willow told the boy. "Is there anything else I can help you with?" She asked, half hoping he would say yes.
OOC-Thanks for the warning. Don't worry, I've seen meaner characters.
