Monitors and Assistants Post by Headmistress Kijewski-Jareau

Kiva had gone to pick up the Library Monitor and Assistant Signup sheet a couple of weeks after having placed it up to begin with. Immediately after reading the list, she was agitated by what she had read next to some of the names. She could not comprehend out a group of students, fifth years no less, believing that they had enough authority to replace an actual staff position during this interim time. What was worse was the way they were signing up. As though they seemed like they were in a competition between the lot of them. Or, at least, they played follow the leader and was probably something that the group of them did often considering those that were reaching were all in Aladren.

This had not been Kiva’s intention when she wanted to continue on with this program that DiAnna had brought to life and it saddened her to see students taking such terrible advantage of this difficult time the school was currently having with being understaffed. What was worse was that the name that started it all and was the most outrageous of all was one of Amelia’s blood-relatives. The audaciousness of it was what upset her so. Was it because Amelia was Deputy that he had thought he had the right to declare himself Substitute Librarian? That he could be responsible enough to hold a staff position? Kiva vowed to have a stern talking to her own children and remind them that they were above no one in this school even though their mother was the Headmistress. They were equals and if they step out of line, she would not help them. They would take the punishment.

It was the list and the Library Tour posting that set Kiva into motion. She thought the library would have been fine without someone heading it for a little bit, mostly because everyone was busy during the school hours except for those who were Advanced students and may have gaps in their scheduling based on whether or not they were taking all of the core courses or not. During those times, Kiva could pop in every so often to check on things or another stuff member who had a free period. John was also closest to the library and could easily keep an eye on it when he had the chance. This left time for after lessons, which is when she was hoping the Monitors and Assistants could help out. But, after reading the list, it was clear that they were expecting more power and that was something she had to pull the reins on.

She had owled an old friend of hers that she knew from her college days. He was a professor at a magical university up in California. He was currently on sabbatical and Kiva had asked if he would like to spend his time in a stuffy old library. Knowing her situation, he had agreed. By the end of the week, she would have an actual substitute librarian.

Please be respectful to him and assist him with his duties as required by the position you have elected to take and assist one another during your time together in the library. Monitor Understands by Andrina Thornton

Andrina saw the list of Monitors and Assistants when she walked through the Library one day and she smiled, seeing her name as a Monitor. She hadn’t really been a Library helper before, and so she didn’t expect to be a Monitor. But it seemed that either her age, or the Headmistress herself had decided she’d make a better Monitor. Andri grinned and vowed to make their Headmistress proud of her work in the Library.

The Aladren wasn’t planning on taking over everything or being the head of anything to be sure, however, she would do as best as she could to help out the younger years in any way she could. There was a letter tacked up with the list and Andri read it carefully.

There’s going to be a substitute Librarian, good. she thought to herself, knowing that as much as the other monitors had been library monitors before, they also as a group couldn’t run it like an adult could. Especially seeing as what most of the others had written next to their names. She’d seen their desires in black and white when she herself had signed up and as much as she’d shaken her head at it, she still wrote what she’d written. It was true, she didn’t care which she was, a monitor or an assistant, she just wanted to help those who needed it in any way she could.
