Jude had come to enjoy her time with the older boy. There was something about him that made her feel comfortable, even though it was easy to tell that Angel was uncomfortable in his own skin. Being on the same team for the Challenges, her going over his homework, learning from each other, he was THE only one there at Sonora that she wanted to go to the Midsummer Ball with.

Her problem: What if...

What if someone else had asked him already? What if he didn't want to go? What if he didn't want to go with HER?

After all, who was she? Just an eleven year old muggleborn, first year who knows nothing about anything magical, to be sure. The ping pong ball fight in her head as she waited for Angel in the Library for one of their homework sessions had been starting to drive her nuts. Thankfully, Angel walked in and when he sat down, sat next to her at the table and pulled out his work. Her face flushed and she looked down at her hands. She pulled in as deep a breath as she ever remembered doing and spoke almost un-intelligibly "Willyougototheballwithme?"

Jude did not pause between words, she ran one word into another and when it was all out in the open her heart thudded in her chest. She hoped he'd understood her and that he indeed wanted to go with her. He'd been the only one she felt comfortable with and if he'd refused her she didn't know what else to do other than to just go home and admit defeat.

She watched the Teppenpaw, hope settling into her face, yet defeat rose in her eyes at the same time. She liked Angel, definitely, as a friend, maybe, like a brother, maybe even more. She wasn't sure just yet, but she hoped that he liked her too, at least in some way or another!

After the first Challenge, Jude and Angel became study partners. The pale boy was amicable to the agreement, even though he often got help from his own year group and those higher up when he asked for it, he still found the young muggleborn to be good company. She didn’t understand the technical aspects of the assignments, but she was willing to spend the time needed to translate his butchering of the English language into something the Professors would be more willing to accept.

It still took more drafts than Angel cared to write, but his work had been improving. He still always hovered near failing, but somehow never quite dropped below the line. He was glad that the first year was interested in helping him. There were times when the Teppenpaw felt awkward presenting his work to the older students for review, and taking time from their own studies to help him. Even though Angel was pants at the technical aspect of ordering his thoughts into words, both written and spoken, Jude had become apt at understanding what he was trying to say, and helping him express it.

Crimson eyes flitted over to the first year when he noticed her odd agitation. Was she upset about something? Over the years he’d become better at reading emotions, but it was still rather general. He could judge if someone was happy, or upset, but he had a difficult time gauging the depth of the emotion. Before he could shape the proper question she spoke…at least, he thought she spoke. The words were so rushed that he couldn’t understand them.

Blinking, he tilted his head to the side and studied her out of the corner of his eye. “What you said?”

Jude had enjoyed her time with Angel, but if her asking him to the Ball with her ruined their friendship she thought she'd just die! The time the pair spent together was among her favorite times in her life at Sonora. She'd even written home about Angel throughout the Challenges and Dane expressed interest in learning more about the boy that had his sister so fascinated. Dane and Seanan had told her that it was important to make friends and the boys were glad she'd found at least one. They told her that all Luca was talking about was her coming home and that he missed her. She, of course, sent a letter back telling Luca that she loved him too, always would.

She made her single word phrase towards Angel and when he blinked and tilted his head to the side in what, to her, seemed like complete confusion, she looked back at him as he asked her what she said.

Her heart thudded wildly as she tried to work out in her mind how to say what she wanted to say without upsetting either of them upset. "Uhm... I was trying to ask you if you..." She started. "If you would uhm... If you wanted to come with me to the..." she paused, trying to put her nerves in check. "If you would come with me to the Ball... I'd be honored if you'd come with me..." she said, getting softer and softer, but not soft enough for him not to hear her.
