I don't appreciate being the messenger
by Tavarius Mims
Tavarius Mims was by no means in the habit of bowing to the whim of other portraits, nor did he like being told what to do. On this occasion, however, the instructions were delivered by one of the previous Headmasters of Sonora, one of the founders, in fact, of this fine institution, and one whose anniversary was currently being celebrated. These factors combined were sufficient to convince Tavarius, if somewhat reluctantly, to allow admittance to all students – even those troublemakers in Pecari House – and staff to the chamber concealed behind his portrait. Further to that, he had been entrusted with the task of encouraging students not in class for one reason or another to make his or her way down to the chamber to join the rest of the school in an impromptu history lesson. Far from inclined to make specified visits to each of the common rooms in turn, Tavarius theorized that any student worthy of taking part in this celebratory activity would be found in the library anyway, making good use of this allotted free period.
Stepping into one of the larger frames in the central section of the library, Tavarius straightened his tie and cleared his throat loudly, surveying the gathered students with his usual haughty expression. It was a comparatively small crowd, compiled of those in third year and above who were not currently attending Divinations or Care of Magical Creatures, as the lower years should already be in their potions class, but Tavarius addressed them as he would a much larger crowd. “I have an important announcement to make on behalf of former Headmaster Leith Clurican,” he called pompously, his voice ringing loudly through the usually silent stacks.
“The presence of every staff member and student of Sonora academy is required in the chamber concealed behind my portrait,” – as older students, he assumed they would be familiar with this quirk of the school – “immediately. Please finish your current occupation as quickly as possible and make your way to the chamber.” He would not tell them what lay within – that was for them to find out for themselves. As for Mims, he was eager to return to his portrait and regain his usual control of the barrier that prevented students from entering into the Mirage.
(OOC: You are welcome to join the thread in the Mirage Chamber.)
