Did I see a Grimm? [Ian] by Amelia Smythe

Some people were so entirely predictable. Amelia hoped she would never be one of them; she liked to believe she could act on whim, be spontaneous. As she rounded the corner and found Ian Grimm, very predictably, sitting in the library and reading a book, she made a silent vow to never become so dull as her yearmate.

"Oh here you are," she said loudly and with overdone faux delight and surprise, sure to get his attention and irritate him in just four words. "I've been searching the school for you for hours," Amelia teased as she perched her rounded behind on the table beside him.

"I've come to call in a favor," she said with a brilliant smile, and she passed over a parchment envelope sealed with the crest of Du Lac - the very image of old money. "One of Daddy's work friends is having a party," Amelia succeeded in simplifing rather complicated matters down to their purset form, "and I obviously can't go without a proper chaperone. My Havelock cousins are already shared out and even Cynthia is going." The last part sounded a bit like whining even to Amelia's own ears, so she pushed on quickly.

"I can't tolerate many people and I simply have to go, so you'll be taking me, okay?" She made sure Ian knew there wasn't really room for discussion on the matter.

Unfortunately, you found me. by Ian Grimm

Ian had decided, very wisely in his opinion, to skip out on the house festivities and bog down in the library. He had discovered a rather interesting tome on the history of shares in the Wizarding Markets, and intended on finishing at least the first third of it before being forced to leave the school the next morning. He made a purposeful effort to ignore the real reason for his dry material- mainly that his exam results had shown themselves to be quite poor and he knew his parents would not be pleased.

He had made no particular effort to hide himself amongst the stacks, yet when Amelia Smythe cozied on in, he felt a violent surge of regret that he hadn't.

"What do you want?" He tried to disguise his irritation, not wanting her to have the benefit of knowing that her mere voice was enough to annoy him at times.

"I've come to call in a favor. . ." was how she began, and that violent regret grew in potency until by the time she had finished, his forehead was cradled in his fingers and his glasses removed. It was bad enough that his own silliness had forced him into being indebted- and twice at that- but now he was to play escort at what sounded like a mammoth gathering. Although, being that Du Lac was involved. . .it might not be without its pros.

"Fine. Owl me the time specifics and what you'll be wearing. I suppose I'll have to bring a party favor of sorts?" Ian imagined his mother could arrange something of the sort. Circe only knew how she'd trip off once she learned Ian was voluntarily attending a social event, and with a girl at that. If Amelia could even be labeled as such. Sure, she was girly and female-like and all of that, but somehow, Ian couldn't treat her like he did other women.

She held a class of annoyance singular to herself.

"Shove off now then, will you? I have another three chapters to go before curfew."

Your such a pessimist! by Amelia

Ian had a particular talent in sounding rude no matter what he said. Amelia was rarely in a good enough mood around him to appreciate the wonder of this, but today she noticed it and it amused her. Any other boy on the planet who got invited by her, Amelia Smythe, to a party held by Du Lac would be giddy with excitement, without a doubt. But Ian was not any other boy; he was quite singular in his sour nature and propensity to irritability. Yet despite this, Amelia could find entertainment in his company, and she was mindful that her yeargroup did not boast any other males with mention-worthy family names. She needed him... only temporarily, of course.

Ian, on the other hand, didn't need Amelia, but he did owe her, and that's what was so very beautiful about their friendship. He didn't even try to get out of the arrangement (which pleased Amelia - quite unintentionally, she was sure) and asked her to owl the details to him.

"Yes, a party favor would be the gentlemanly thing to do," Amelia replied with a too-sweet smile. She batted her eyelashes a couple of times for good measure. Then, her deed done, Amelia didn't find it necessary to subject herself to Ian's company for any further length of time; besides, he seemed rather keen to be rid of her.

"Yes, I'm going," she said, hoisting herself from the table and heading for the door. Before leaving, she called back over her shoulder - again quite loudly, especially considering they were in a library - "And I'll be wearing pink!"
