Hiding out by Adam Brockert

For obvious reasons, Adam couldn't say he had been glad to come back to Sonora after midterm. However, midterm had its own issues. Not so much that anything bad had really happened. He'd seen Kaylie and Marshall. Kaylie seemed to be doing well. She had a new boyfriend, Ian, the guy they'd met at Lily's the year before. Adam wasn't quite sure what to make of it. He just didn't want Kaylie to get hurt again. She hadn't stayed around long either before she was off to a Christmas party to be Ian's date.

Marshall, on the other hand, did not seem to be okay. Adam was concerned about how much his cousin seemed to be drinking. Marshall just seemed...off. And he didn't seem to realize how "off" he was.

Furthermore, there was the thing with Briony and Saul. Honestly, Adam was actually more worried about Briony dating Saul than he was about his sister and Ian. It wasn't simply his dislike of the Pecari and the fact that he was worried about Briony being absorbed into that popular clique that he was certain looked down their noses at him because he was different and that she'd likely want nothing to do with him anymore. It was more that Saul had taken such a long time and waffled between her and Pepper, that Adam just wasn't sure Saul was capable of making up his mind.

Added to this was the fact that the other two males in that clique were no longer around. Adam was certain that all the girls in it would be going after Saul now that he was probably the only option they thought worth their time. He knew the type. Chelsea was the type. Granted, they may be into Quidditch and pranks and being "cool" rather than fashion and being part of upper class society the way Adam's younger sister and her friends were, but they were still a bunch of snobs who thought anyone different was beneath them.

Of course, Adam had not told Briony any of his concerns about her and Saul. She'd probably just end up hating him anyway. He wasn't sure where he even stood with her as it was.

Which worried Adam as well.

Elly Eriksson

Not from me, I hope by Elly Eriksson

This was madness. Elly had visited the library several times in her life at Sonora, though almost without exception these visits had been primarily, if not solely, for pranking purposes. Although she still loved pulling a good pranks, Elly was starting to feel more like she should accept the responsibilities of being a fifth year and a prefect, and perhaps set a good example, rather than routinely breaking school rules.

However, that made little difference to her being in the library today. Exams were just around the corner, and as much as she loathed it, she really wanted to do well. Elly had never been especially academic; some subjects just naturally caught her interest and encouraged her to do well. Others, like transfiguration, were a constant battle. It just wasn't in her nature to give up, nor would she accept a failing grade if she could help it. To this end, Elly was finding herself in the library more and more frequently. It was quite an odd sensation to feel like a regular visit to such a quiet place.

This particular morning, Elly was doing her best to get her head around History of magic; a subject she didn't get on well with in the slightest. She knew plenty about Muggle British history, but that meant nothing in a magic school in Arizona. So armed with three dauntingly large volumes, Elly made her way to the nearest table, and spotted Adame Brockert. She couldn't recall ever speaking to him directly; they shared some friends but general consensus was that Adam was acutely shy, and Elly didn't know how to behave around the shy, quiet sort.

"Hey, is it okay of I sit here?" she asked, gesticulating with a free finger towards an empty chair. "Please say yes or my arms might fall off," she smiled.

"Hey, is it okay of I sit here? Please say yes or my arms might fall off,"

Adam looked up at the person who spoke to him warily. Elly Eriksson was about the last person who he expected to talk to him. She was popular, he was not. Sure, Saul had talked to him in the beginning of the year but he'd been campaigning for Head Boy. Elly wouldn't be campagining for Head Girl until next term, and he wasn't eligible to vote for the people in her class anyway, so it wasn't likely that. Unless she was campaigning for Saul. Well, Adam had already voted and he stood by what he said at the beginning of the year.

Perhaps she had something to say about Talitha. After all, they were sort of friends even if Talitha wasn't in Elly's inner circle. Adam hoped it wouldn't be bad if that was the case but just that Elly could possibly tell him that Talitha hated him (or that Briony did) made a storm of butterflies start in his stomach.

Or perhaps, and this would be the most logical rational reason, her arms were full, the books were heavy, and this was the closest table. He wondered why Elly didn't just use a levitating spell. Wingardium Leviosa was first year stuff. Not that he suspected she couldn't do it, he merely wondered why she hadn't thought of it.

"I guess." Adam replied. A thought struck him. "That doesn't mean I have to move does it?" As awkward and uncomfortable as it would be for him to continue sitting there while Elly was, he was going to be pretty angry if he was supposed to get up and find another spot just because she wanted this one.

That's good to hear by Elly

As soon as she registered that Adam's reply was not in the negative, Elly wasted no time in dumping the books in the empty space on the table. "That doesn't mean I have to move does it?" she heard Adam ask, and the question puzzled Elly a little - if she wanted an empty table so much she would have found one.

"Not at all," she replied easily, shifting the books to be more stable and then sinking into a chair in a manner that demonstrated her reluctance to complete the task she'd set herself. "I just really don't want to fail History," she told Adam, glancing at the books to make clear her reasons for being there in the first place. "I can't seem to get my head around it," Elly smiled to herself, able to make light of the situation because even the worst case scenario of failing her CATS would hardly make a difference to her life as she knew it.

"I'll do my best not to disturb you," she told Adam as she pulled the top book towards her. Elly fumbled in her shoulder bag for a notebook and pen, and then opened the textbook to the contents page. This was going to be a long afternoon.

Adam B

I bet it is by Adam B

Adam was relieved that Elly wasn't going to make him move. And surprised. Mostly surprised. He knew the lot of them liked to be around groups of people, but he didn't think that included him . Almost nobody liked being around Adam. He wasn't exactly sure why, his theory was that it was because he was shy and disliked Quidditch, but that was how things were. Adam didn't necessarily like it but he certainly didn't know how to change it without becoming something he wasn't and couldn't be. He would rather be liked for who he was even if it meant he wasn't one of the In Crowd.

Though that didn't mean he wanted everyone to hate him. Adam wondered if maybe Elly was giving him a chance (or at the very least tolerating his presence) because Talitha had said good things about him. That would make him happier than anything. Not because it meant the popular kids liked him but because it would mean Talitha did a lot.

I just really don't want to fail History,"

Now this was actually something Adam could sort of relate to. Though he'd never actually failed anything, he would hate to do so. Being good at school was the one thing he had so Adam usually studied to make the best possible grades. The work in history was easy enough for him, but he was usually half-afraid Flatt was going to fail him no matter how well he did. This was not because of his usual paranoid tendencies or because he was a pureblood-it was because he was Chelsea Brockert's older brother. Adam wouldn't necessarily put it past the elder Professor Flatt to take it out on him and Pippa (because it was unlikely that Professor Flatt would realize she was a distant cousin and not their sister) for being related to the Aladren.

And if he knew they were related to Quentin as well, forget it.

"I'll do my best not to disturb you,"

"Um, thanks." Adam went back to his own Potions homework.
