Seeking Answers by Lexi Stafford

Dear Mom and Dad,
As Ben may have told you, I’m Teppenpaw’s prefect, which I think everyone, including him, probably resents. My boyfriend’s also apparently engaged. Other than that, it’s been a lovely year so far...

Lexi sighed, rumpling up the piece of parchment and chucking it in the wastebasket by the side of the table. Perhaps she should wait a couple days before writing her parents about the start of term. After all, they were only three days into school, counting the opening feast. While she was sure they’d like to hear about her new status, she was just as certain Ben was going to be the good-twin and immediately write home about it.

The fact that she, who had never been the most diligent about writing home, was already composing messages, however, was overshadowed by an even bigger seeming impossibility. It was the second actual day of school, and she was already hanging out in the library, of all places. Without being under probation, no less. Yes, she had been planning to continue her trend last year and try to work harder with CATS at the end of the coming May, but this was rather ridiculous.

Of course, all things considered, she couldn’t quite claim her dedication to her grades were what was keeping her here rather than elsewhere. First, she really didn’t want to hang out in the Teppenpaw commons right now, or her room, as she still wasn’t at the point where she wanted to talk about this with Dalila or, Merlin forbid, Kaylie. After all, Lexi was probably overreacting, and needed to have Chris tell her so before she started unintentionally spreading rumors around (since something like that would never stay quiet).

So, here she was, in the place where it was most likely Chris was going to run into her, dutiful Aladren boy-scout-type that he was. And it had been a good plan, in theory, until Lexi had realized that she had nothing to do while waiting for him, since the teachers really hadn’t started to give homework yet. So the choices were either to sit here and do nothing, looking like a complete loser in the process, or try to write her parents again.

Redipping her quill in the ink, she began to scrawl a few words before the feeling of someone approaching her hit. “Hello?” she said quickly, turning around to see who it was (with any luck, the person she’d been waiting for).

Willing to give some by Devian Dupree

As per usual, part of the fourth year's plans to upstage his cousin involved spending hours upon hours in the library. About the only people that really spent more time in the library than him were the odd Aladren prefect and the girl with the red hair.

He had even more work to do this year. Chris had been named prefect and was trying back out for the Quidditch team. Devian had been on the team his first year, but had been rather awful at it, which deterred him from joining this year. If he was horrid at something, there was no way he could destroy Chris with it. It was just a silly sport anyway, but being prefect was another story. Prefects were a position of power, maybe not great power, but power nonetheless, which was just what Devian wanted.

The younger Aladren wasn't really sure what he could do to ruin Chris' reputation so that they would rethink giving him any responsiblity and therefore, maybe the family would also rethink it, but as he looked around the library, an idea came to him. Maybe he didn't have to hurt Chris in his prefect duties. Maybe, just maybe, there was something else he could do. A devious grin came to play on his face, a plan already forming.

He made his way over to where a pretty girl was sitting. This one had red hair, but not quite like the girl that usually was in the library. This one's hair was more the color of sunrise. He stopped a bit short of her, wiping his face of any evil doing and into one of a gentle charisma. Then, as he was closing the distance, she called with 'Hello?' before turning around, which surprised him slightly, but he quickly recovered.

"Hi, you're Lexi Stafford, right?" He asked, then introduced himself with as sexy a grin as a fourteen year old could manage, "I'm Devian Dupree, Chris' cousin."

Let me rephrase: seeking honest answers by Lexi

Alright, so she got it half right. It was a Dupree, right house and everything, just not the one she wanted. She was fairly certain she’d seen Devian around before, in classes and such. However, she couldn’t remember ever speaking to him before (which would make sense, as he obviously didn’t either, otherwise he wouldn’t have bothered introducing himself). She had no idea why he would be coming over here now, but he was an Aladren, so there was probably a reason somewhere, since logic was behind almost everything with them.

“Yes, that would be me,” Lexi replied with a grin she didn’t entirely feel, being less than happy with Duprees in general right now. She stood and turned to face him in order to be at a less awkward angle. “It’s a pleasure to meet you,” she continued, holding out a hand to shake. “So, was there something you needed? Oh, you also wouldn’t happen to know where your cousin is, or if he’s planning on showing up here, would you?”

She couldn’t see any reason why he wouldn’t. After all, cousins were supposed to be close, weren’t they? Yes, she and Ben were twins, and they didn’t know where the other was most of the time, but they could always approximate a fairly decent guess. Besides, they weren’t in the same house like Chris and Devian, which had to be a favorable factor, even if, at first glance, they didn’t seem much alike. Devian didn’t really look like Chris, and his smile made her feel slightly uncomfortable. However, her nerves were already on end, so it could just be them talking.

They're honest enough by Devian

His smile wavered a tiny bit at the question regarding Chris. He hoped that she wouldn't notice. He wanted her to think that they were great friends. It would make everything that much easier.

"I'm sure that he will be around soon," he lied, as he ran a hand through his hair, a similarity to Chris, always touching his hair. Then, a clever word placement, "He's probably just sending a quick owl to Marie."

Then, a fake widening of the eyes, as though he said something he shouldn't have, which in a way he had. 'Come on,' he silently begged, 'Ask about her. You know you want to know.' If she didn't, he was going to have to try another tactic of getting Lexi to ask. He had just so much to tell her and one way or another was going to do so.\r\n\r\n

*sigh* Fine. Answers without an agenda by Lexi

This is what you get for asking questions like that, Lexi reminded herself, schooling her features to remain happy and bright as much as she could, though she’d never been particularly good at that. So her smile may have wavered a bit in its sincerity, and she may have dropped her eyes for a second, but, considering the circumstances, and her usual amount of self control in that arena, she didn’t do all that bad.

“Oh?” she asked with mostly real interest. “Do they owl each other often, then?” This seemed rather contrary to what Nicoletta had said, about Chris not liking her very much, but Lexi supposed that the Crotalus could always be mistaken. After all, it would be hard not to become at least a little more fond of someone when one had to spend an entire summer together, and Devian seemed like a person who would know such things.

She tried to remind herself that she had no right to be jealous or upset by this still, if she ever did. She and Marie were in two entirely different categories to Chris. Just what those categories were, she’d have to wait until she could speak to him to learn, but they were different all the same. And, all in all, she’d prefer to wait and talk about Marie then. “So, was there something you needed me for?”

All answers have an agenda by Devian

If Devian could break the character he was playing, he would have been smiling like a Cheshire cat. He knew he had struck a nerve when her smile wavered ever so slight and she asked just what he had been waiting for. It was like playing Cat and Mouse.

"Yeah, they owl each a lot. Ever since we got back to school, I've heard nothing, but Marie, Marie, Marie. Honestly, I can't blame him. She is rather gorgeous with long blonde hair, but I prefer red, myself," he gave a grin with the compliment added in while he was breaking her down. "I'm sure it doesn't mean anything. You know, just the effect of meeting a new person and all."

Happening to glance up at that moment, he saw a dark head coming into the library, which was his cue to leave. Another grin, "So, anyhow, I just wanted to meet you since I heard that you were dating the Great Chris Dupree. Any friend of Chris' is a friend of mine, and perhaps, we can hang out some time? Though, at the moment, I really do have to get going. I have to go meet Nic."

Lie. Huge lie. No one ever referred to her as Nic, but him and it was to annoy her. Yet, it made them seem friendly. He knew that she knew that she saw threw him. Luckily, Chris didn't for he always gave the benefit of the doubt.

Very well. Answers that aren't yours by Lexi

If Lexi had been less focused on her current problem, she probably would have noticed strange comments Devian was making. Things like ‘The great Chris Dupree,’ which hardly sounded like something one friend would call another, and the fact that he claimed he wanted to meet her because she was dating Chris, but the two had been seeing each other for the several months now. Strange little slip-ups like that.

Unfortunately for her, though, she didn’t stop to think about those. She was always the more rash of her siblings, most likely to jump into things quickly (well, she was more rash than Patrick had been when younger. Now there wasn’t much he didn’t do. But that was beside the point). “Well, I’m glad he likes her, at least,” she replied a bit weakly. “And I’d be glad to hang out sometime, if you’d like.”

She was a bit surprised by his sudden departure, particularly when she noticed her boyfriend coming through the door. If they were as close as Devian had claimed, shouldn’t they, she didn’t know, want to be around each other, maybe? It was another thing she would consider when she had the chance to sit down and analyze everything. Right now, though, was not the time.

She took the couple of seconds she had before Chris reached her to try and make herself look as composed as possible. After all, it was rather clear what she had to do, if things were like Devian said. She was perfectly fine if Chris preferred someone else. She didn’t have a claim on him, not really. It was more of a blow to her ego than anything else, she reassured herself.

Still, she wanted to keep what little was left of her pride intact. So, leaning back against the table, she began as soon as Chris was next to her. “So, I’ve been thinking, and, what with everything I’ve been hearing, I really think it would be better if we…broke things off, as it were. I mean, I don’t want to be the awkward third wheel with you and Marie, and it was going to happen eventually, so I figured just might as well end things now, save time and energy for everyone. So…yeah.”

Then, after a few seconds, her common sense kicked back in. “That is, unless I’ve got something entirely wrong?” she added, a bit more hope in her voice than she meant for there to be.

How about mine? by Chris

That was odd. Devian didn't normally talk to many people and to be talking to Lexi, was well, odd, but he didn't over think it. Maybe his little cousin was finally warming up, like Chris had hoped he would. Maybe he could even ask Devian to hang out with them sometime. Or maybe not. It wasn't like he was going to get much alone time with Lexi, but before he had even reached the table, Devian was gone like a rabbit.

Of course, he wasn't given much time to dwell on it. He hadn't even managed a hello before Lexi laid the questions on him, questions he didn't want to think about, questions he had to answer. His first response was to blink at her in shock, the next a groan. Marie wasn't even here and she was already ruining his life.

His blue eyes, brighter, more sincere appearing than Devian's, looked at her, hoping to lock with hers. A serious expression on his face. It felt like deja vu to the time with Kaylie. Nicoletta had been right. It was no way to live. Nicoletta...

"My sister talked to you, didn't she?" He questioned, but already knew the answer to. His sister could keep secrets with the best of them. Merlin knew, she had enough of them, but it seemed that she could never keep her mouth shut about others' skeletons. "I'll tell you everything you want to know, everything." He gave a sigh. This wasn't how he had pictured this going at all. "Is this really where you want to talk?"

Depends on what they are by Lexi

Well, that was…unexpected. Chris hadn’t really responded to her statement that they should break up, which Lexi was assuming to be a good thing. If he didn’t say anything, then maybe he thought she was being ridiculous. While that normally wasn’t an adjective she wanted used to describe her, in this case she would settle.

“Your sister talked,” she said quietly. “Kaylie talked, was actually the one to start it. Your cousin talked. Everyone’s talked, Chris, except you, it seems. Well, and my brother.” She laughed. “He didn’t know, did he? Because if he did, I may have to kill him for not telling me.”

She sighed, refusing to meet Chris’s gaze. “I wouldn’t have cared, if you’d just told me at some point. I mean, even an owl over the summer- ‘Sorry about this, my fiancée that I’ve had for a while yet never told you about and I are getting along better than expected.’ You have had her for a while, haven’t you. She’s why you and Kaylie broke up.” It wasn’t really a question.

She shrugged in response to his last question. “Honestly, it doesn’t really matter to me where we go. Here might actually be quietest, since it’s so early in the term, if we head out to one of the back tables or something.”

Honest ones by Chris

Kaylie? And his cousin? His sister, he expected, but the other two came as a surprise. Though, was that why Devian had been over here? What...a...snot.

Nodding at her response, he led her to one of the tables in the back. More deja vu. Once settled, his gaze now on the wood in front of him, he began, "I didn't want you to find out this way and I was going to tell you. As it stands, though, I suppose I should start at the very beginning." He had folded his hands before, but now he began to twiddle his thumbs in an anxiety. This was the dreaded moment. All the cards would be on the table.

"One of the things about being in a Pureblood family like ours is that maintaining the bloodline matters, especially for the eldest children, even more for the eldest male. Nicoletta and I are the eldest children," he gave a wry smile at the thought. All due to birth order. "Nicoletta's fiance was chosen for her at birth. She found out about it at the beginning of last year. Mine was chosen during midterm that year. I'm not sure of the specifics of why I didn't have one until then."

He could have guessed that some form of politics had come about. He probably was betrothed to someone else, but something happened. It really wasn't important. This conversation was what was important.

"Anyhow, at that time I was dating Kaylie. I wanted to break things off before they became more serious. I hurt her enough as it was," his hands stilled at that moment. He could remember the pain on her face that day. It would be something to stay with him a long time to come. He had cared for her, to say he didn't would have been a lie, but it was his way of saving her. "I could have continued with her, probably up until my wedding day. All my parents cared about was who I actually married. If you talk to Nicoletta, you'll find they have different standards for her. But I digress for that's her story. What I didn't count on in my own was you."

He looked up then, hoping to catch her eye, to let her know he was serious. "Lexi, I never meant to fall for you or lead you on in any way. And it certainly wasn't my intention for you to get hurt. I should never have allowed things to progress this far. I should have stopped, because I knew what lay ahead for me, but something about you kept drawing me back."

"As for Marie," the tone was biting on her name, "she is only what I can describe as a black widow spider. I have no interest in her and for most of the summer I was miserable. I would have much preferred to have spent it with you. However, if I refuse the marriage, it means disownment, which Nicoletta is currently facing. She thinks I should go that route, but the problem that I have is that if I follow the rules, I'll become the next Head and I don't mean just of the Dupree family, but I mean of a larger..." He paused. He was about to say too much. "Of more than one family." He hadn't meant to lie, but to reveal more about that was risky. "I'll have the chance to start changing things from the inside. My sister claims it's a useless cause." A sad laugh came from him.

"Right now, those are my options. Marry or be disowned," Chris explained. "Since summer, I've been trying to think of a way to get out of marrying Marie without being disowned. By changing the system, I can make sure that future generations, like my little cousins, Talen and Lucie, will never have to go through this." This was spoken with passion. He wanted it to end.

"Lexi, I care very much about you," he wanted to say that he was starting to fall in love, but hesitated. He didn't want to say it as a way to try and keep her. He wanted that to be special, if he ever got to say it. "But if you still want to break up with me, I'll respect your decision."

Those'll work by Lexi

Lexi listened in silence as Chris explained precisely what had been going on. It was far more complicated than she’d expected it to be, which was pretty impressive, as one would expect a certain degree of complexity from an arranged marriage. Lexi hadn’t even known those were still performed. Of course, hers was a more liberal family, she supposed, since her father hadn’t been disowned for marrying a muggle chorus girl, of all things, and their children had been accepted.

She couldn’t really blame him for having a fiancée in circumstances like these, in circumstances beyond his control. She also couldn’t really blame him for not telling her about it, although the jury was still out on whether she would or not, at least a little. And she certainly couldn’t blame him for the fact that he was dating her despite having a fiancée, as she was the one who’d, well, pounced, she supposed was the correct term, at the astronomy field trip last year.

Still, it was a lot to take in at once, though the truth was a comfort, compared to what she had thought. And having all the information finally was exhausting, even though she wasn’t the one who’d had to spill it. Weight of knowledge, and all.

So Lexi rested her head on Chris’s shoulder. “I’m sorry, Chris,” was all she said at first. Then, of course, she realized the kind of connotations that sentence probably had, given the last part of Chris’s speech about the two of them breaking up. She didn’t want to freak out her boyfriend anymore than she and the situation probably already had. “Sorry that I freaked out, I mean. It was just…” she sighed.

“It was hard, knowing that you’d told your other girlfriend, but not me, and that she was the first one to mention her. I know this is going to sound completely ridiculous and catty, given what you have to go through, but I kept freaking out, thinking maybe I was just some kind of replacement Kaylie to you, or some kind of rebound relationship; that you’d never really liked me, but because you couldn’t be with the girl you really liked, I was a suitable replacement.

“Then there was your cousin, of course, who came over here and talked about how well you and Marie get along, and how gorgeous she is, and how much you like her.” She laughed bitterly. “He sounded like he knew what he was talking about, and it made sense, in a twisted, warped way.”

She could decide what to do when Chris did, Lexi supposed. She had no sense of obligation from him, and she really would be fine with whatever he decided, or so she thought. No point in doing anything but living in the present.

Glad to hear it by Chris

His head was pointing down; waiting for the moment when she said it was over. He expected nothing less after what he had told her. How could she want to continue anything with him when his future was so uncertain in a way, yet so determined in another? He looked up in surprise when he felt her head on his shoulder. He turned ever so slightly breathing in her scent, his chin rested on her hair, as it might be the last time he did so.

’I’m sorry’

His heart stopped at the dreaded words. They were over. He certainly wasn’t doing much in being able to keep a girlfriend. In the span of one year, two breakups, neither really wanted, but there was nothing he could really do. He said he would respect her choice and so he would abide by that, but then she continued. She was apologizing for freaking out. He didn’t blame her for doing so. It would have shocked anyone. Only the traditional purebloods seemed to stand by arranged marriages nowadays. He knew what most other people thought. It was the same thing he thought, the same thing Nic now thought. It was an insane measure just to protect some stupid bloodline that when it came down to it, didn’t matter at all.

Her next words shocked him more. He had no idea how she could think that she was a replacement for Kaylie. He wouldn’t lie. He had fond memories of Kaylie. They had shared something special. He had even tried to protect her by breaking up with her, had the hope that she would find someone that could love her in a way he would never be able to. He had never sought to replace Kaylie. His plan had been to be with no one as it was for the best, but then Lexi had popped into his life. She was fun, bold, and a little wild. She made him forget things, things he didn’t want to think about. Had he intended to let it go this far? No, he hadn’t, but he found himself having a hard time letting go. He didn’t want to. She brought something alive inside of him, something that would die if he married Marie.

And though, when it seemed things couldn’t get worse, Lexi mentioned Devian. He had saw them together as he entered the library, but hadn’t thought much about it. Truthfully, he never thought much of Devian at all even though they were in the same House. More than likely it was because he never saw him. The kid had a propensity for staying locked up in his room or holed up in the library, so it had never crossed his mind that the younger Aladren would do such a thing. It was odd and if from nearly anyone else, he probably wouldn’t believe it, but this was Lexi. He trusted her and he hoped that now everything was in the open, he hadn’t lost all of hers.

When she finished, he moved, cupping her face between his hands and stared into her eyes, he wanted to make everything he felt clear. “You, Alexandria Stafford, are important to me, not as a substitute or anything else, but because you are you. And I won’t lie. Marie is very attractive on the outside, but she is a very ugly person on the inside. I do not like her in the least and would never write to her by choice. You, however, are beautiful, both on the outside and inside and I missed you terribly.”
He wanted to kiss her, kiss everything away at that moment, but he had to continue, had to lay it out there. “The last thing I want to do is marry her. I just need to figure out how to get out of it, but I told you why I don’t want to be disowned. If it were just me, I would take the option in a heartbeat.”

Would it be enough? He didn’t want to lose her, but he knew it wasn’t fair to her. It never would be until he was no longer with Marie.

Aren't you just? (WotW) by Lexi

And, again, Lexi felt small. Her boyfriend was being forced into a marriage with someone he hated, and was choosing, at least now, to go through with it to try and help his younger cousins not have to do the same. And then there was her, yammering about how his ex-girlfriend had been told, and she hadn’t, along with other petty problems Lexi had with the situation. The fact that her complaints had been mental rather than oral, and had stopped once she had been told the truth, mitigated nothing.

And everything was made worse by the fact that there was no reason she should have responded that way, given the way she and Chris had parted the previous year. They had been dating, yes, but casually, and, for her, at least, more on a physical level than anything else. She’d had no right to feel so jealous, so…betrayed.

Merlin, just her luck, to figure out that her feelings for Chris might go much deeper than previous imagined, just as she was informed he was engaged, and had every intent, for the moment, of marrying the girl. And, irrational though it was, that upset her more than anything Chris or anyone else had said so far. Damn it all to hell.

She didn’t fight Chris as he lifted her head. She’d had enough to get it out of her system. So she just smiled weakly. “I know. Nicoletta said you hated her, and I should have believed her. Kaylie just threw me off, which was my own fault, as I chose to sit with her. She tries not to be around me, I think, since we started dating, and I figured I wanted to make amends, if she was angry or bitter or something. That plan kinda fell through, though, when I flipped out,” she added with a wry chuckle.

Realizing that her hands were clenched at her side still, she brought them up, and messed absent-mindedly with his hair. It brought the two of them into a more intimate-looking position, but that didn’t bother Lexi. The physical had never caused her any problems. That little headache seemed to belong to the mental and emotional. After a quick glance to the side to make sure they really out of view (they were), she took a step closer to him, eliminating any space. She wanted, no, needed to get this back on familiar ground.

“I can’t believe you just used my actual name,” she teased lightly, her face only an inch or two from his. “Nobody uses my actual name, except my father. And Bulla, I suppose,” she conceded with a shrug. “At least you didn’t add the Juliette. Quite seriously, that one’s never used. It was one of my mother’s flights of fancy when I was born, before everyone realized it didn’t fit at all. Half the time, my family even forgets that it’s part of my name.”

Alright, so maybe her mood shift was a little sudden, and she was rambling now. She just wanted to go back to normal now, and now she needed something that would keep Chris from questioning what the hell had just happened to her. So she seized upon the fool-proof plan. Chris was just a teenage guy, and, from her experience, could be easily distracted under the right circumstance. So, carefully, she removed his hands from her face, and put them around her waist, before whispering “I missed you too,” and closing the gap between their lips.

Very much so by Chris

When Lexi’s soft lips met his, all current thoughts left his brain, except for her. His hands tightened on her waist, as he deepened the kiss. It had been far too long. He didn’t care that they were in the library. Nothing mattered at the moment. Everything else could wait until tomorrow.

After a few more stolen kisses, Chris leaned slightly away from her, but kept his hands on her. He didn’t want to let go, afraid that once he did, it would all go away, she would go away. That, perhaps, this was all a dream and he had yet to talk to her about the arrangement and rather, in the end, she would leave. His right hand brushed across her face, before reaching into his pocket.

What he pulled out was a small black box with a red ribbon tied around it. He knew he was taking a chance when he purchased it, knowing that he might never get the chance to give it to her. Inside was a silver chain. On the chain was a small heart charm, which reflected the colors of the sunrise. It had reminded him of her when he had seen it. He had carried it with him the entire summer in the hope of this moment, to be with Lexi and not Marie.

Handing the box to her, he gave a little grin and said, “It’s not much, but I thought of you when I saw it.”

And now for something completely different by Lexi

Well, her master plan had worked, for the moment. Chris hadn’t mentioned her sudden shift, which meant she didn’t have to think of a suitable and believable story. She didn’t want to admit her revelation to herself. Now was not the time to start telling the other it concerned as well.

Lexi gave her boyfriend a perplexed look when he reached into her pocket, which turned into speculation and more than a little shock when he pulled out a box. Leaning back a little so she would have room to open it, since she was getting the vibe that Chris wasn’t going to be letting go of her long enough for her to step away, her jaw dropped when she saw the necklace.

“It’s beautiful, Chris,” she said, slightly stunned. Carefully, she took the chain out of its box, and set the container to one side. “Thank you. Will you help me put it on? I’ve never been able to master the art of this kind of clasp, at least not for putting things on myself.” Her eyes got a mischievous look again. “Although I feel rather bad now, since I didn’t get anything for you.”

Well, at least lighter by Chris

Chris gave a wide grin of relief, glad that she liked the gift. Not only because of the actual necklace, but because a necklace was a little more of a serious gesture, even though he wasn’t quite ready to say it.

“Sure,” he said, taking the chain and moving behind her. “Hold your hair up.”

Easily enough, he strung the chain around her delicate neck and clasped it. Rather than moving, he pulled her from behind to wrap her into a hug, just enjoying the moment. He nuzzled into her hair, before answering, “It’s all right. I just wanted to.”

After a few moments, he brought up a question that they knew the answer to his, but hadn’t found out about hers yet, “Well, you heard about my summer, but I haven’t heard about yours. Was it good?”

He refrained from saying that she had heard all about his summer. She had only heard the part about Marie, but the rest hadn’t been much better minus the Quidditch game. But one didn’t really go talking about how their sister’s sudden odd behavior and descent from society. He knew her decision, but she still hadn’t told him what had actually happened, other than it was apparently something to do with her coming out party.

Hard for it to have gotten darker by Lexi

Lexi did as she was told obligingly, holding up her hair, and trying not to giggle as Chris’s fingers brushed her neck. She wasn’t normally that ticklish, but there were a few areas that could set her off, and that was one of them. She was fairly certain that Chris wasn’t aware of those yet, since she’d always tried to not let that get around. It wasn’t against him, of course, she’d just spent her childhood getting tickled until she couldn’t breathe by her brothers whenever they were annoyed with her.

“Well, if you insist, then there’s not much I can do,” she replied, grinning, and responded to him pulling her back by leaning even closer to him. She just relaxed in his arms for a moment. She’d never suspected she’d be the sort of girl who enjoyed being made to feel like she was being taken care of like this, but things were different with Chris. When she was with him, she seemed to end up doing things that didn’t really go with the sort of person she’d always thought she was. Part of growing up, she supposed, and smiled to herself. They did add a certain flavor to life, that was sure.

“My summer? Wasn’t all that interesting, really. My mom got a small part in an off-Broadway show at the beginning of it, which pleased her, which pleased my dad, which meant that he wasn’t breathing down my and my brothers’ necks about things, which meant we got a lot of freedom. Spent a lot of time playing quidditch with Ben’s friends.”

She’d suspected they had been flirting with her the majority of the time they’d been playing, which amused her to no end, though she wasn’t sure Chris would see it in the same light. That just wasn’t the sort of thing that happened to Lexi Stafford, after all. Being flirted with by guys who weren’t her boyfriend, making out in semi-open places like this, even having a boyfriend- Merlin, if someone had told her this was where she’d be in a year last September, she would have laughed herself silly.

Her reverie was interrupted by the sound of rustling paper and footsteps, which reminded Lexi more concretely that they weren’t still in private and, while as of yet she and Chris hadn’t really gotten up to anything they hadn’t done before, she wasn’t sure how long that was going to last, particularly as her shirt had ridden up a tiny bit, and Chris’s hands had ‘somehow’ managed to slip down far enough to start playing with the edge of it, and the skin immediately under. So, she probably should be stopping him, given that they were both prefects, and supposed to be setting a good example. But...the footsteps had faded now, and this could prove very fun too.

Well, you never know by Chris

“Ben’s friends?” He asked, between kisses around the gentle line of her neck. “Should I be jealous?” He wasn’t really worried. He trusted Lexi and he had no room to talk with Marie looming overhead, but she was beautiful, especially with her aquamarine eyes. There was no doubt that she would attract the eye of any male. He knew he certainly had a hard time keeping his hands off of her.

Though, it wasn’t that Marie was unattractive. She was quite the opposite with long blonde hair and bright green eyes. All of her features were rather pristine, which was a testament to her personality, which did wonders for keeping his hands off of her. In fact, he hadn’t even wanted to be in the same room. He hated the way she had draped herself over him, acted as though he were property.

But she wasn’t here now. He was at Sonora with Lexi, enjoying everything about her. He paused at the noises nearby, but as soon as they were gone, he moved from behind her and pulled onto her hands, wanting to tug her into the nearby stacks that were for the most part unused, because he certainly wanted to continue their little make-out session with less chance of interruption.
