Nice weather... [tag: Camren] by Irene Liddowe

Irene headed towards the Library where it would hopefully be less crowded. The air was clearer here, that was for sure. Camren seemed like a nice person, a little troubled at the moment, but friends always cheer others up. Hopefully Irene could do that for her. She didn't like seeing people upset.

Irene found an empty table near the back of the library. She pulled up a chair and pointed another chair at the table for Camren, tucking a stand of her brown hair behind her ear.

"Hey, Camren," she began, "Is something wrong? I'm not trying to pry it's just... Well, I want to help," she said with a smile. "Bad days are my specialty."

At least its breathable air... by Camren Christianson

Camren followed Irene to the Library. 'At least the air is cleaner here...' Camren thought as she looked around from floor to the ceiling at all the books as they walked through to the back of the room. Camren was in awe.

Maybe leaving her friends wouldn't be all bad... Now she had some friends here, and this Library, after all. Cam followed Irene to an empty table near the back of the library. Irene pulled up a chair for herself, and pointed Camren towards another. Cam nodded and got the chair. Camren pulled it closer to the table Irene had found and sat in it.

"Hey, Camren," she began, "Is something wrong? I'm not trying to pry it's just... Well, I want to help," she said with a smile. "Bad days are my specialty."

Camren looked at Irene. 'Did she know?' Camren wondered. Cam tried hard not to show surprise, but she couldn't keep her eyes from widening slightly. "Um..." Camren said. "It's kind of complicated..." Camren didn't want Irene to think that she didn't want to tell her what had really happened, because she did... But Camren was afraid she'd have to leave again if she told someone. That WAS what happened when she had told Kat...

Camren shook the feeling away and turned to Irene. "Well, I'm still new here and..." Camren looked down to her shoes and bit her lip. 'This WAS a part of the reason why I was upset after all...' Camren thought. 'Not the complete reason... But it WAS part of it...'

This is true. by Irene

Irene noticd the slightly surprised look Camren got when she asked her what was wrong.

"It's kind of complicated..."

Irene nodded. She knew exactly what she meant. Irene remembered when people use to ask her why she lived with Uncle Mike. She always told them it was because her mother died and Damon couldn't support her. This was true enough, just watered down. Camren looked to her feet and said,

"Well, I'm still new here and..."

Irene nodded. "Still getting use to the stuff here? Same. We're both first years, after all. It takes a while, but I find friends really help," she said grinning.

Usually, Irene didn't tell people the goings on of her family and what's been happening, but something about Camren seemed to be okay to talk about it. It seemed like Irene knew she wouldn't just spread it around.

"This...This years been though," she began, focsing on a point around Camren's head, but so she was not making eye contact. "Well, my mom died when I was five and that's when my dad became and alcoholic. He didn't even know I was there, or he did, but he didn't pay attention..." Irene looked back to her, feeling a little stupid now. She didn't want to hear her ramble about her childhood! Heck, Irene didn't even like hearing it!

"Sorry," she said, "You probably don't want to hear this..."

It sure is... by Camren

The face that Camren had made seemed to make Irene surprised. Camren tried to rid her face of the look. "It's kind of complicated..."

Irene nodded and Camren nodded back to her. 'She seems really nice...' Camren thought. 'And she really seems to understand me, even though we've just met...'

Camren looked to her feet and said, "Well, I'm still new here and..." Irene nodded again and spoke.

"Still getting use to the stuff here? Same. We're both first years, after all. It takes a while, but I find friends really help,"

Camren nodded and looked up to Irene. "Yeah... They do..." Camren wished that she could tell Irene what had happened... Irene was a lot like she was, she could tell... So was Hyana and Kat... Camren sighed, and wondered how her friends were... She'd have to remember to send them another post through her Snowy Owl Nilla.

"This... This years been tough,"

"Don't I know it..." Camren added, noticing that Irene wasn't looking into her eyes. She seemed almost uncomfortable herself... Camren wondered why. 'Is there more to her than I know?' Cam wondered as Irene spoke again.

"Well, my mom died when I was five and that's when my dad became and alcoholic. He didn't even know I was there, or he did, but he didn't pay attention... Sorry," she said, "You probably don't want to hear this..."

Camren looked at Irene. She felt awful for the girl... Camren wished that there was something that she could do for Irene... Camren made eye contact with her and spoke. "No, it's okay... I don't mind... I know the feeling... Well... Part of it anyway..."

Camren swallowed some saliva and spoke. "My father is an alcoholic also... The only difference was that he knew I was there... My little sister too... And my mom..."

'Have I said too much? What if father found Mom, Caden and the babies? After all, they're newborns... They can't take care of themselves...' Camren held in some tears for her family, and worried lots about her family and friends...

Mmkay. I'm out of subject lines already... by Irene

"No, it's okay... I don't mind... I know the feeling... Well... Part of it anyway..."

So Camren's worries weren't just about being new... That's awful. Irene hated that other people had to go through the same things she had. Irene felt more comfortable telling her the rest, knowing she had a inkling to what she was talking about.

"Damon was really neglective for about two years. I was starving and it was pretty... pretty bad..." Irene paused and continued. "When I was seven my Uncle Mike came to get some of my mom's old stuff and saw me. He took me to his place in Northern Michigan. We use to have to hide from my dad, but we're okay now. The court gave my uncle legal custody and my dad has a restraining order," Irene finished.

"My father is an alcoholic also... The only difference was that he knew I was there... My little sister too... And my mom..."

That definitely was not good. Her dad sounded abusive and Camren sounded terrified to talk about it. Irene leaned forward. "Are guys okay? Because we could talk to someone. That's what I did and everything is better now," she said, hoping to sound helpful and not pushy.

Friends... Isn't it nice? by Camren

"No, it's okay... I don't mind... I know the feeling... Well... Part of it anyway..." Camren said with a sigh. She looked at Irene to show Irene that she really did care about what she was talking about. Camren really did care. She did. Camren held her hand out to Irene to hold if she needed it. Irene spoke, and Camren listened intently to her.

"Damon was really neglective for about two years. I was starving and it was pretty... pretty bad..." Irene paused and continued. "I know what you mean... My father is an alcoholic also... The only difference was that he knew I was there... My little sister too... And my mom..." Camren stopped talking. 'Have I said too much?' Camren hoped that she hadn't... Her left leg started shaking slightly as Camren took a deep breath. Irene leaned in to Camren.

"Are guys okay? Because we could talk to someone. That's what I did and everything is better now,"

"Oh... Um..." Camren stuttered. "We're okay now... We left... Thats why I'm here... PLEASE don't tell anyone... I don't want him to find us... Please... Please promise me..." Camren was getting frantic now. 'What if Irene told?' Camren thought as she held her breath for her new friend's answer.

*grins* Yeah. by Irene

"We're okay now... We left... Thats why I'm here... PLEASE don't tell anyone... I don't want him to find us... Please... Please promise me..."

Irene noticed the slight panic in Cam's voice as she spoke. She hadn't meant to get her so worried, it was just a suggestion. Feeling she should calm her down, Irene said, "It's okay. I won't tell, I promise," she said to Camren with a sincere expression.

"Sometimes it's better though," she said, "to tell someone. They can help, really. I know it seems like it would get worse, but it really can help. I'm just passing on what I've learned. I don't want to see you or your family get hurt."

Irene really felt for Camren. She had obviously been through a lot, and the fact that she could still trust others deserved a lot of credit. They shared similar experiences. Irene had figured out that a few people here had similar experiences to her. She always felt bad about talking about it, though. Irene had already gotten her escape from her aweful past while others were still trapped in it. There were worse situations than her's out there, no doubt. Why was she so lucky to get the lifeline out?

A Calming Friend by Camren

"We're okay now... We left... Thats why I'm here... PLEASE don't tell anyone... I don't want him to find us... Please... Please promise me..."

"It's okay. I won't tell, I promise,"

Camren looked Irene right in the face as she spoke. Irene looked sincere. Like she was telling the truth. "Thanks..." Camren said, her eyes getting watery. Camren tried hard to keep the tears back. Camren looked down into her lap and tried to stop the tears from falling. When Irene started to speak, Camren looked at her and listened.

"Sometimes it's better though, to tell someone. They can help, really. I know it seems like it would get worse, but it really can help. I'm just passing on what I've learned. I don't want to see you or your family get hurt."

Camren nodded. She couldn't speak, but she knew what Irene meant by what she said. Cam could tell that Irene was only just trying to help, and Camren appreciated it, more than even she could explain...

"But it's so hard..." Camren said, getting quieter by the syllable...

Camren didn't know what else to do but bite her bottom lip. After all, it was her staple thing to do if she was upset or stressed... "I'm sorry..." Cam said to Irene. "I don't know whats wrong with me anymore..." Camren bit down harder to try not to cry.

Camren just wanted her Momma and Caden...

What are friends for? by Irene

Camren nodded at Irene's suggestion. For a moment, she thoguht she meant that she was going to. But then, "But it's so hard..." Camren said quietly. Irene felt a pang of sympathy for her and wanted to run over to give her a hug.

"I'm sorry..." Cam said to Irene. "I don't know whats wrong with me anymore..."

Oh no. That sounded like tears. Irene walked over and put her arms around her new friend. "It's okay," she said before releasing her, but keeping her hands on Cam's shoulders. "If anyone has the right to be upset about something, it's you. But look at you! You've got a demon for a father and you're still able to go through school! Your family must be really proud of you," she said, smiling at Camren. She didn't want her to be upset. If Irene could, she would snap her fingers and fix this for her, but, seeing as she was no God, all she could do was help Camren right now.

To be there for each other... by Camren

Camren looked down at her feet again. 'I'm not going to cry. I WON'T! I won't do it... If I do, there is sure to be a teacher around...' Camren thought to herself as she took a few deep breaths to try to calm herself down. Camren doubted it would work completely, but it was worth a shot. 'I have friends here now. And Momma and Caden are safe. It will be okay.' Camren said over and over again in her mind. Camren hoped that by saying it over and over again, she would actually start believing it. What were the chances?

Camren was so stuck on her own thoughts that she didn't realize that Irene had moved until she felt arms around her. Camren jumped a little and tried not to scream. Camren's eyes widened and she lost her breath.

"It's okay, If anyone has the right to be upset about something, it's you. But look at you! You've got a demon for a father and you're still able to go through school! Your family must be really proud of you,"

Camren shrugged. "I dunno..." Camren looked up at Irene. "I'm sure Momma and Caden are...proud of me, I mean..." Irene smiled at Camren and kept her hands on Cam's shoulders. Camren felt almost safe there with Irene. She almost felt like everything was okay and that her father hadn't done all the horrible things to her family...

"So... uh..." Camren stammered. She was trying to search for things to say to perhaps change the topic. 'Maybe there was something happy I could talk about.' "So... You said that things changed for you. I'm glad," Camren said, trying to smile as broadly as she could. Camren wanted Irene to feel as if she could tell her anything. After all, "that is what friends are for..." Camren hadn't realized she was speaking aloud, and her own voice scared her. Her voice sounded strange to her. Haunted even, and quite far away. It was almost like it wasn't even her that was speaking.

"I'm sorry. I really am," Camren apologized profusely to Irene.

"I dunno..." Camren looked up at Irene. "I'm sure Momma and Caden are...proud of me, I mean..."

Irene nodded and took her seat again. "I know what you mean. So, Caden is... your sister?" Irene asked.

"So... You said that things changed for you. I'm glad,"

Irene grinned. "Thanks, I love it at home!" Irene said with enthusiasm. "My uncle has a small house up in North Michigan. My cousins stay with us a lot, Renaye and Josh (the twins), and Elaina. We play a lot of Quidditch and we swim in the pond and play pranks on Uncle Mike..." Irene drifted off, grinning. "Everything worked out. I couldn't ask for more."

"that is what friends are for..."

Irene smiled at Cam, however, Camren looked surprised for some reason. She began to apologize and Irene wasn't quite sure what for...

"For what?" She said aloud.

*nods in Irene's direction* by Camren

Camren didn't like that her voice seemed so far away to her. She didn't like the feeling that came from it. She shook as Irene asked why Camren was apologizing to her.

"I just didn't realize that I had said that last bit out loud. And my voice seems so far away..." Camren said, as she tried to shake the thoughts from her head.

"And yes, Caden is my sister." Camren said. "My little sister. She'll be here next year. I want everything to be okay here for her when she gets here. She and Mama and the twins mean everything to me." Camren said. Thinking of how soon she will have two new baby siblings. She hoped one was a girl and one was a boy. She had always wanted a brother, and Camren wanted Caden to be able to be looked up to just like Caden did to Camren.

"I can't wait till I can introduce Caden to my friends here. She'll really like you! And Hyana, a-a-and even Caedence." Camren smiled a shy smile at Irene. She hoped that Irene didn't mind her mumblings and that she would still be her friend. Camren looked at Irene and bit her lip a little bit. 'Will she still want to be my friend?' Camren wondered and waited.

Irene laughed after Camren said, "I just didn't realize that I had said that last bit out loud. And my voice seems so far away..."

"I do that too! All the time. I'll be thinking and then I'll start talking out loud!" Irene said.

"My little sister. She'll be here next year. I want everything to be okay here for her when she gets here. She and Mama and the twins mean everything to me."

"I'm sure they'll be fine," Irene said with a smile. "My cousin is coming here next year too! Renaye. She's great! She's so crazy-hyper. It's a good thing she puts her energy into Quidditch, otherwise I don't know what she would do!"

"I can't wait till I can introduce Caden to my friends here. She'll really like you! And Hyana, a-a-and even Caedence."

"I can't wait to meet her!" Irene said. It would be great to not be a first year anymore. Not that it had been all that bad, but she would be glad to be rid of the 'Firstie' label. "I'm sure she'll do great here."

"So," Irene said, crossing her legs, "Overall, how would you rate this year for you?"

It's all good! by Camren

OOC: No problem! It's all good! I completely understand what you mean!

BIC:
Irene laughed after Camren spoke to her, and Cam blushed a little as she bit her bottom lip. But when Irene said that she does it too Camren cooled off and stopped blushing. "Really?" Camren asked her. Camren hadn't ever met anyone else who did that before. "Do you really do that all the time?" Camren calmed down a little bit and told Irene about Caden. Cam told her about how Mama and the twins were important to her and then Irene spoke to Camren with a smile. Irene told her that they were sure to be fine and that her cousin would be coming next year too.

"Really?" Camren said. "What's she like? Maybe she and Caden could be friends!" Camren smiled at Irene as she told Cam about her cousin. "Hyper, huh?" She said. "It's cool that she likes Quidditch. Caden's not really into that kind of thing so much. She likes to pretend a bit."

Camren was happy now. She couldn't help but talk excitedly about introducing Caden to all her friends at Sonora. Irene seemed excited to be able to meet Caden too and that she would do great there. "Yeah. She will!" Camren said happily. 'It's good to have friends like Irene to help you feel better about everything that was happening.'

Irene interrupted Camren's thoughts as she asked how Cam would rate her year. "Um..." Camren said. "Well, it hasn't exactly been an easy year." Camren bit her bottom lip and spoke again. "You know, I've not been here all year, and that didn't help matters any. But all in all, I guess I learned a lot." Camren said. 'Yeah, like to stay away from my father.' Camren faked a smile and looked back at Irene. "What about you?" she asked.
