A letter (Tag: Kaylie) by Chris Dupree

It wasn't unusual to find Chris in the library. He was often there doing homework or reading for enjoyment. It was rare to find him sitting there just staring off into space, but today, this was what he was doing. His blue eyes were glazed over, as he stared at some invisible object.

Clenched tightly in his hand was a letter from his parents, giving him 'good' news. They had found him a suitable partner for him. He would meet her, her being Marie D'Anound, this summer. He knew that this day had been coming. His parents had already informed that he could continue to date Kaylie Brockert until he graduated. They had nothing against the girl with the exception that her family wouldn't bring the ties that they wanted.

How was he going to tell Kaylie this? How did you break the heart of someone that you cared for? How did you make them understand that your life was mapped out and it didn't include them? He dropped his head to his hands, and then slide together to the table. He didn't want to tell her. He would give anything not to, but he also knew that there was no avoiding it.

Or could he? Just drop contact when she graduated? It was only another couple years. No, no, that wouldn't be right. He had to do this right. He HAD to be honest with her, because he did care for her.

Decision made, he was about to go look for her when he spotted her. He gulped nervously. It was now or never. He made his way over to her, letter still gripped in hand.

"Kaylie..." his eyes held a pained look, "we need to talk."

Kaylie Brockert

Concerned by Kaylie Brockert

This year, Kaylie spent much more time in the library then she had in the previous years because of all the classes she was taking. She often felt it was too much for her, but Adam needed her. Still, she didn't doubt that her brother was probably doing better in their shared electives. Kaylie had always thought Adam was smarter than her, it was just that he didn't agree.

From across the library, she spotted the other reason she ever came in here, her boyfriend, Chris. Kaylie face lit up instinctively as always but then deflated when she realized how bad he looked. She didn't want to see him in pain and he looked really ill. A concerned look came over her face as he reached her. She just wanted to hold Chris and take care of him until he was all better.

"Kaylie...we need to talk."

"What's a matter? You don't look to well," she replied, her voice full of worry. What if he was seriously, deathly ill?

You should be by Chris

Chris gave her a wane smile, trying to reassure her, though he knew in the end it would matter little, "I-I'm fine, really."

He reached out a hand to twirl a loose piece of hair in his finger, before allowing it to drift to grasp hers. Pulling her to him, he hugged her, resting his head on top of hers. He may have been a year younger than her, but he was certainly surpassing her in height. He breathed in her heavy, sweet scent and held it for a moment, before letting it out in a hot breath. He wanted to stay like this, just like this forever. Just a frozen piece of time, but as unfortunate as it was, time moved on and one had to go along with it.

Pulling away from her, he ran his sturdy hands down her arms, grasping her hands and tugging Kaylie along with him. It killed him what he was about to do. She was the picture of innocence that he was about to destroy. Sitting her down at a nearby table, but still away from others, he brought the hands, still in his grip, to his lips and kissed them, before holding them in his lap. If eyes were the windows to the soul, then his were shattered, as they met hers.

"Kaylie..." he managed to croak out. "I-I don't know where to begin."

His gaze slipped back to his hands, the thumbs now tracing. Were her hands always this soft? No, no, he couldn't get distracted, as much as he wanted to allow himself. He had to tell her, get it out. But how did one tell another that 'Oh, I can date you until I graduate, then I have to go marry someone else?' In normal world, you didn't, but of course, this was the high-society, pureblood world that he had the misfortune to be born into.

He inhaled the musky library air and exhaled again, before trying once more, faster this time, so it was blurted out, "My parents wrote me a letter. I'm to be engaged when I turn seventeen."

There it was. It was out in the world now. The words were spoken. Now, he tensely waited for her reaction. Would she get angry or would she cry? Would she storm off or ask questions? Would he be able to handle any of it?

Kaylie

I am. by Kaylie

It felt so good being in his arms, so completely, utterly, wonderfully perfect. Kaylie never wanted it to end. She loved Chris so much, more than anyone or anything in the whole world. When he pulled away, she could still feel it.

As he sat her down and kissed her hands, Kaylie could see the pain in his eyes and she was instantly scared for both of them. Something was very wrong, she didn't have to be a genius to figure that out. So that's why his words surprised her,

"My parents wrote me a letter. I'm to be engaged when I turn seventeen."

They had to get engaged then? That was what Kaylie had always wanted! A smiled crossed her face. "But that's good news, we'll be together." Why did he look so sad? Maybe he didn't want to be with her after all. Or maybe he'd been just worried she'd want to wait. "You know that's what I've always wanted. You have no reason to worry I wouldn't."

Here goes by Chris

His mouth dropped open slightly in surprise. She thought that they were going to be engaged? It felt like someone had punched him in the stomach. Was she trying to kill him?

"Kaylie..." Chris started softly, "I didn't mean...my parents have chosen someone for the engagement. Her-her name is Marie."

His intensive blue eyes studied her. He wanted to know what she was thinking, feeling. He really wasn't sure what more to say to her. He knew his parents would pick his partner. He had hoped that after meeting Kaylie, it would be her. Yet, it couldn't.

"I..I'm so sorry," he told her, pulling her to him for a last hug. "I understand if you don't want to, but can we try to be friends?"

Ease-dropping....of sorts by Dillon Welsh

Dillon had been sitting at a table in the library for the last hour trying to get his spell work down for Charms. With exams this year, he needed to make sure that everything was perfect and that he was absolutely ready for the tests. Granted, they were months away, but he needed all the time in the world. He wasn't nearly as good with his wand as his sister was. Then again, Zoey was an Aladren.

So, when the meet up of a certain couple occured at the table beside him, Dillon ignored it. Or tried too. One of the voices he recognized to be Kaylie and when he looked up, he could only assume the boy was her boyfriend. Although, the look on his face made him look rather ill. Dillon was glad he was a table away.

He had returned to his studies, but their conversation kept drifting his way. He glanced up on occasion during their conversation to look their way. Dillon was slightly annoyed that they had to do this in the library, but as he heard more and more of the conversation, his annoyance turned into embarrassment for having witnessed such a thing.

Dillon quickly ducked his head and tried to pretend as though he didn't just hear Kaylie being dumped by her boyfriend because he had a woman on the side, or whatever. It was probably going to be a rough time and Dillon felt rather bad for the girl. Still...they could have done it in a more private setting.

Re: Here goes by Kaylie

No,no,no, no ! This just couldn't be happening! Kaylie felt like all the air was being sucked out of the room. She really loved Chris and couldn't imagine being without him. They'd been so happy, how could he throw it all away? It meant more to Kaylie than anything in the world. She'd thought he felt the same way.

How could his parents do this? How could he go along with it? They were ruining both their lives. Tears broke loose from Kaylie's eyes and streamed down her face. "Chris, please don't do this. I love you!" She cried, her breath coming out in gasps as she began to cry harder. She'd forgotten they were in the library and had she remembered they were, she probably really wouldn't have cared.

Her hands began shaking as she looked down at the floor. Kaylie knew she couldn't be without him.

And the finale by Chris

Chris shifted uncomfortably. Hoping for a clean break had been too much. Of course, she would be highly upset and of course, she would claim her love for him. He wasn't sure what more to say to her. He wanted her to calm down, to accept what was and to move on. He was sure that she would be able to find someone, someone better than him.

Taking a deep breath, he carefully chose his next words, "I care for you, too, and you'll always hold a special place in my heart. I really am sorry, Kaylie. I really hope that one day that you can forgive me and we can be friends."

He leaned over and kissed her tear-stained cheek. After doing so, he slumped out of the library.
