Ever thought you would find me here? by Nicoletta Dupree

Finding Nicoletta Dupree sitting in the library was a rare thing indeed. Rarier still was that she had a book that wasn't on fashion. Most people didn't know it, as most thought she and the clique she was a part of were airheads, but she enjoyed reading. She had a passion for it really, but it was her secret. She was a girl with many secrets and sure to be more.

Though, she wished she were home, in her own family library, rather than the school one. Why had Chris wanted to stay? More important still, why had she agreed to? She would have been just fine at home by herself. No, not really. She would have been bored out of her mind with no one to talk to. Not that here seemed much better. Most people went home, but she thought that Jordanna might still be around. Not that having her was that much better. They didn't speak as much anymore since Jordanna had moved away from the group.

Adrift in her thoughts, the book that she had been reading lay in front of her, untouched. Unrealized, she gave a small sigh. \n\n

Not really, but I've never looked before by Adam Whitney

Adam was bored out of his mind since he was forced to stay here over break. He loved Sonora, loved everything about it, but...it wasn't home. And this was the holidays! He should be enjoying spending some time with his parents. Sure the dinners weren't anything special since they couldn't afford a big ham or real yams, but they always had a good time.

Even when Grandpa Harold stop by and gave them all lectures.

He missed running around outside with his dad until he was panting for breath and having pains in his chest. Good pains, not the bad ones. He would even miss seeing his Healer for his usual checkups and stern talking-tos when he horse-played too roughly. But mostly...mostly he'd miss sitting around the table talking to his parents and catching them up on everything while listening to his dad exaggerate stories from the office.

Walking through the isles of the library (cos, really, where was he to go?), Adam glanced around at the books. He was reading a lot since the start of midterm. Books on many different things. Animals, fantasy, charms, quidditch...anything. And most of the time he read here in the library because of the snow in the commonroom and his dorm room was just too quiet.

There was a soft sigh from behind him and Adam turned to see a classmate sitting at a table. He watched her in surprise. Nicoletta Dupree was actually reading a book. Adam didn't think she knew how to read. Well, that was a mean thought to have...more like, he didn't think she would give the time of day to read a book.

Smiling, Adam approached her, "Now there must be something wrong with the world if a girl like Nicoletta Dupree is sighing so sadly."\n\n

You seem to be looking now by Nicoletta

Nicoletta focused on the person that had spoken. Adam Whitney. She arched a delicate dark brown eyebrow. Why was he sitting at her table? He wasn't the type of guy that a girl like her would waste breath on, but it appeared she had little choice.

"If you must know," her tone one of annoyance, "I'm sighing, because I'm stuck here. I'd much rather be home for the holiday."

She was going to kill Chris. He was completely to blame for Adam Whitney talking to her. If they had just gone home, like they should have, she wouldn't be sitting here right now. She pretended to pick off a piece of invisible lint from the powder blue sweater she was wearing, hoping he would get the hint. Glancing up, she saw he was still there. Her blue eyes turning to a glare.\n\n

How can I not? by Adam

Adam's smile went from being one of pleasant greetings to sheer amusement. Her attitude is exactly as he thought it would be. A total shrew. The type of girl whom thought herself higher than any others. And really, with the crowd she hung out with? It was like they all thought they were goddesses.

Adam would give them the benefit of believing they looked the part, but they certainly weren't special enough for such a high honor. Not that he would actually say that to them. His mom would smack him if she ever heard him talk down to a girl in any way, shape, or form.

"So then, how come you couldn't go home?" Adam asked her, curious as to why her parents wouldn't want her to spend time with them. "I thought you girls all had your parties to plan and balls to throw?" Her glare only made his smile grow. He clucked his tongue at her. "Now now, Nicoletta, behave, you're stuck with me for the next couple of weeks, might as well make the most of it."\n\n

Very true by Nicoletta

She pursed her lightly glossed lips to keep from smiling. She wouldn't give him the pleasure. If she had admitted it, he was very attractive, but that was no reason to act like they were on the same level. He was afterall poor, but he was a pureblood. Maybe she should be generous and let him sit there. It would certainly help his reputation. Not that there were many people around. Maybe that was a better thing.

"I stayed, because my parents are away on business, and because Chris wanted to," she answered haughtily.

Of course, if their parents could have, they would have taken them. They were very much loved. To show how sorry they were, she knew a larger than usual pile of presents would arrive for Christmas.

"Why are you here?" She countered.\n\n

So modest by Adam

Adam's blue eyes watched her with interest. Had anyone said a week prior that he would actually be sitting at the same table as Nicoletta Dupree and having a conversation with her, he'd have flat out told them they was nuts. Completely nuts. It wasn't because he ever doubted a conversation between the two was possible, but more likely that Nicoletta would rather eat dirt than talk to him.

Her on her pedestool. Right beside Jordanna Howard and Catherine Raines. Snubbing everyone and having them lick their shoes.

Or so the rumors said.

But the look on Nicoletta's delicate face and her crisp words with him didn't force Adam to get up and walk away. She was actually talking back to him. Making the conversation work. Which, of course, only made Adam even more curious about her. She was nice to look at, but did she have the personality to be bothered with at all?

"Oh right, you and Chris are twins. I forget that sometimes." Adam replied casually. He only forgot it because Chris was nice to everyone while Nicoletta gave everyone the cold shoulder. "I'm here because my parents didn't trust the wagon rides to and from school. Simple as that. You know, when you purse your lips like that, it only makes you look cuter."\n\n

I try by Nicoletta

Was he flirting with her? Yes, she believed he was. The real question was should she stop him? No, there was nothing wrong with a little fun. Besides, it wasn't like Catherine or Jordanna would fine out.

She tilted her head slightly, her dark curls falling over her shoulders. She leaned forward slightly, her lips curving into a smirk. She wanted him to get a better view of her. She knew she looked better than a mere cute.

"I daresay Adam Whitney, that you are utterly cruel," she pouted. "What did I ever do to you?"

I'm Sure by Adam

He was expecting her to tell him off, or laughing in his face, or even saying nothing and simply walking off. But, she did none of those things. Instead, she smirked at him. It wasn't a complete smile, but it was enough to ward him a safe pass.

"Cruel? Me?" Adam asked, perplexed by such a comment. He had called her cute, was that offensive? He always thought that girls enjoyed being called cute or pretty, or a million other adjectives that rained on their looks.

"In what way have I been cruel to a Princess like you?" Adam asked. His words were playful, even at the word 'Princess'. "Come now, Nicoletta, when have you ever played nice?"\n\n

Are you saying I don't? by Nicoletta

Not being able to hold back, her smirk turned to a playful grin, "We weren't talking about me. We were talking about you."

Closing her book, she 'accidentally' touched his fingers with hers. Getting up to put the book back, she circled around him. When behind, she leaned down. Her sweet scent sure to entice his senses.

Next to his ear, she softly said, "Do you just find me cute?"

Heading towards a set of shelves, she turned slightly around and blew him a kiss before confidently continuing on. She had no doubt that she left him wanting more. Would he follow her? She doubted he would. Most guys didn't. They just didn't understand the way the game was played.

Once in the aisle, between the bookshelves, she put her book back and began browsing through the others. Her back turned, because she wasn't expecting him to follow and she didn't want to watch him leave.\n\n

At being modest? Not really by Adam

Adam raised an eyebrow at her. His blonde hair obscuring his view for a moment as he ran a hand through his hair. She was something else. Not at all as he had originally expected. He knew that if he'd ever have a conversation with one of her friends, they would turn a blind eye at him. He didn't exist in their book, but she... she was different.

Entertaining.

Worthwhile, even.

He cast his eyes downward as her fingers brushed his own. He had to ignore the jump in his heart and played it off as hormones. He thought the conversation to be over with since she was leaving, but when her voice came again, so close to his ear, Adam couldn't ignore the fast beat of his heart in anticipation.

She was wearing perfume. Did girls always wear perfume? It was nice. He found himself closing his eyes and breathing in. Yeah, he really liked this smell. When he opened his eyes and glanced around, he only happened to catch a glance of her as she blew him a kiss and kept on walking.

He sat there, for a moment, staring after her unsure of what to do. Had she dismissed him so easily? Or did she want him to follow? After a moment of contemplation, Adam stood up, "What the hell..." He mumbled with a shrug and wandered off after her.

"Do you not like to be called cute?" Adam asked to Nicoletta's back. He reached over her and took a book off the shelf, he merely wanted to get a whiff of her perfume again, just be sure he had smelt it right the first time. "Would you prefer to be called something else?"\n\n

If I was, I wouldn't be me by Nicoletta

Nicoletta smiled to herself. So, he had followed. Turning around, she placed her hands behind her back.

"Cute is what you call a cousin," she told him, her blue eyes focused on him. "The last time I checked, we weren't related. Unless, there's something you want to tell me?"

She tilted her head down, as though shy, but kept her eyes trained on him. She fluttered her lashes at him slightly.

"Is there something you want to tell me?" She asked more softly.

As she said it, she reached up to fix his collar that was turned up abit. She loved the attention that she was getting from him, but it also meant that she was sure that Jordanna or Catherine would kill her if they found out, because he wasn't considered up to standard.\n\n

Fair Enough by Adam

Adam stepped back slightly from her when she turned around to face him. He didn't want to be all in her face in case she was about to tell him off for following. Besides, he doubted he smelled as nice as she did. Sure, he showered and wore deoterant, but... guy smell wasn't anything special when it came right down to it.

"Is it?" He asked, his surprise sincere. He chuckled though and once again ran a hand through his hair. "As far as I'm aware, I have no cousins. So, unless my parents have kept some family member hidden for the last fourteen years of my life, I'm pretty sure it's safe to say that we aren't, in any way, related." Thankfully. "Well, a compliment to a family member simply just won't do for you. I'm sure adorable is out of the question too...hm..." He studied her, albiet overly exaggerated, for a moment. "Calling you handsome would earn me a slap in the fact, right? And I'm sure pretty is only a smidge better than cute...would gorgeous do for you?" He asked, smirking in amusement.

Adam was grateful that he never blushed. Sure his pulse raced and he could feel heat run to his ears, but his face never turned red. It was something he thanked Merlin everyday about. Not that he was in many situations that would cause him to blush. But, when Nicoletta's hands went around his neck with the innocent intentions of fixing his collar, it was one of those times where he was thanking Merlin, just for that.

He smiled coyly down at her, placing a free hand on one of her's to prevent her from releasing his collar just yet. "My my, Nicoletta, what would people say if they caught us in such a state as this?"

Re: Fair Enough by Nicoletta

She was startled when he took her hand. She viewed him with wide eyes. A moment of vulnerability appearing.

Yes, what would they say? She knew exactly what would be said. Most students would be in shock, but they would get over it. But what would Jordanna and Catherine say? They would consider her on the same level as Gwen Carey. She would lose her friends if this indescretion were ever found out, no matter how seemingly-innocent. Was she willing to risk that?

Of course, only Jordanna was here for break and she never paid attention to what Nicoletta did. And it was very unlikely that any other student would tell her. So, the chances of anyone finding out what happened between her and Adam Whitney over midterm were slim to none. Especially, since she had no intention of carrying anything through into the new term.

Recovering, the guarded look in her eyes reappearing, she answered, "There isn't anyone around to say anything, so why worry?"\n\n

Yeah by Adam

Adam could just be as spontaneous in his actions as she was. Of course, he was a Pecari and they were sort of known for that sort of thing, but still...the look on her face when he grabbed her hand made him feel rather pleased.

He had never been one to really care about what others think. Maybe it was because his parents had bestowed upon him since he was a young child that it never matter what others thought so long as he was happy. And, his parents were happy, so... their carefree ways must have rubbed off on him just a bit.

But, he also knew that people like Nicoletta thrived on reputation. They had to be the top of everthing, the type of girl that wanted girls to be jealous and boys to drool. Adam would agree that they were pretty and Nicoletta seemed to have some personality in her, but he could turn around and walk away without a glance back at her.

Really, he could.

"Fair enough." Adam responded, releasing her hand from his and glancing around for a moment. "Though, I wasn't worried on my behalf. I have no reputation with upstanding citizens to impress. I'm just a guy who likes to talk to pret-excuse me-gorgeous girls when the opportunity arrises."\n\n

I ran out of subjects by Nicoletta

It was true, in her world, reputation and status were everything. In this world, it was all about making friends with the ‘right’ people and marrying the ‘right’ person, and one did anything it took to make this happen. She had already made friends with the ‘right’ people, namely Jordanna Howard and Catherine Raines, and she was betrothed to Lucian, another ‘right’ person, set to be formally engaged when she turned sixteen. It was a fate that was to be hers, one that she eagerly accepted, but she wondered. What was the other side like? What would it be like to walk on the ‘wrong’ side?

She began to view Adam Whitney in a new light, one with scrutinizing eyes. She had a sudden burning desire to find out more about him. What was he like? What made him tick? Why was he interested in someone like her, someone that would normally pay him no mind? But what could she use as a way to get to know him without being to obvious? Flirting was one thing, but this was quiet another.

She decided to disguise the beginning of her questions behind some light flirting, “Besides, the fact that you think I’m gorgeous. Why me?”

That's okay, it happens by Adam

Adam took a few steps back and leaned his weight against a bookshelf directly across from the one that Nicoletta had been looking at. He and Nicoletta had been in the same year, in the same classes, for the last four years and truth be told, Adam had never given her a second glace.

She was just in a whole other world to him.

Nicoletta was the type of girl a person like Adam couldn't touch with a ten foot pole. Of course, every guy wanted a princess at some point and Dupree, Howard, and Raines were the very definition of 'princess' when it came to chicks at Sonora. But they were the 'Untouchables' and so Adam rarely ever thought much about them.

And then, an opportunity like this arose and Adam had to think twice about his decision. His blue eyes settled on her as he thought. Why had he chosen her? He hadn't really thought before he approached her. It just...sort of happened. "Because you sighed." Adam answered her honestly. "Girls like you should never have to sigh."\n\n

Glad you understand by Nicoletta

She worried when it took him a little longer to answer. Had she really asked such a difficult question? It wasn't like she was expecting him to answer that he had an undying love for her. They had, for all intents, just met. Sure, she knew him from classes, but they had never actually talked. But then, they weren't really talking now, were they?

When he finally answered, she let out a small breath of air that she hadn't even known she had been holding. She raised an eyebrow at him. If she hadn't sighed, they would never have talked. Interesting that such a meaningless, well not really meaningless, action would bring about such a daring tryst.

"Maybe, maybe not," she answered in a noncommittal tone. She gave him a small apologetic smile, "I'm sorry, but I have to get going. It's been...an experience."

She turned to go and had gotten a few steps, before pausing. 'What the heck,' she figured. When would she get another opportunity like this? She quickly turned around, closing the gap between them. She stood on her tippy toes and kissed him briefly before sprinting away.\n\n
