It was times like these that Jenna questioned whether or not she should just get up and leave the school. She had just been ill, her parents were mad at her for spending the summer with her cousin, the spells were getting harder than ever, work was just piling up, and then there was that whole fiasco with the hippogriff in Care of Magical Creatures. Potions was the only class she was doing really well in, while her grades in Astronomy and Ancient Runes were barely above average, while Care of Magical Creatures was just a mediocre class for her as far as grades went. She was barely keeping up or totally lost in any of her other subjects.
Jenna definitely planned on dropping Charms, Transfiguration, and DADA as soon as humanely possible. She wondered if they were going to have to discuss that with their Heads of Houses. That would be kind of awkward, telling her Head of House that she wanted out of Transfiguration. But that wouldn't stop the brunette fifth-year from getting out of what was possibly her worst class.
She needed to relax, to clear her head. To just forget about the hectic aspects of her life completely, if only for a little while. She needed a book.
Which was why the fifth-year in the slightly form-fitting dark blue robes (she liked the color) and the messy bun had ended up here in the first place. What she needed was a really weird book, something totally different from anything they were learning in classes. She just wasn't sure exactly what.
Perusing the various aisles of books, she finally found a book that caught her eye. It was a leather-bound book on the top shelf, too high for the petite girl to reach. The title was "Centaurs: Clairvoyant or Conspiracy?" and it looked random enough. Jenna supposed she could've levitated it off the shelf if she liked to, but looked for a ladder or step stool instead. After all, she didn't know what protection spells had been put on the book, and she didn't want to find out.
Looking down the aisle, she saw someone standing next to a wooden step stool. Jenna hoped they weren't using it, but felt as if she better ask. She was in no mood to start up trouble of any kind.
"Hey," she said quietly (they were in a library, after all) as she approached the student in question, "Mind if I take that?" nodding her head at the step stool. She really hoped they wouldn't mind.\n\n

"Mind if I take that?" said a voice near Irene's left. Irene looked over to see a girl nodding at the step stool near her.
"Yeah, go ahead," Irene said with a smile. The girl looked anxious. Irene wondered wether or not she had something on her mind. Normally she wouldn't pry into other people's business, but she had been oddle curious these past few days.
"Do you want to sit at my table?" Irene asked her gesturing to her pile of books on a nearby table.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Great, an eager little firstie. Jenna sincerely hoped she hadn't been like that when she was the girl's age. And if she was... well, thank Merlin for changing her, was all she could say.
"Sure."
What? Sure? Why did she blurt that out? What could she possibly have to talk about with this little firstie, who she didn't think was even in her own house? The brunette didn't even want to talk to the firstie. Truth be told, Jenna didn't really want to talk to anyone. But, she had accepted the offer, and it would be rude to turn it down now. She might be stressed at the moment, but she still strived to be polite.
Remembering her original reason for coming, she pulled out her wand and levitated the step stool several inches on the floor, shakily moving it to the bookcase where the chosen book was. Now really, how could the grey-eyed girl be expected to drag the big hunk of wood all the way there? It was a good thing she was familiar with the fairly simple spells.
Getting up on the stool, she got the book from the shelf and blew dust off the cover. It obviously hadn't been read in agess. Centaurs: Clairvoyant or Conspiracy? Right. Some book. She wondered what kind of person wrote this.
Heading back to the first year's table, she placed the book on the table and sat down. She tried to read, but she couldn't. She felt as if she should say something.
"I'm Jenna, by the way," she said, excluding her last name on purpose, looking up from her book at her seat, "Who are you?"\n\n
Irene watched as the girl took a book from one of the many shelves. Tucking a strand of brown hair behind her ear, Irene headed toward the table after the other girl had gotten her book.
"I'm Jenna, by the way,""Who are you?"
Irene looked up and said, "Oh, I'm Irene. Irene Liddowe," she said smiling.
It felt rather awkward to be sitting here not saying anything. Glancing around for something to talk about, her blue-green eyes landed on the cover of Jenna's book.
"Centaurs, huh?" she said gesturing to the cover. "Is that Care of Magical Creatures homework or just a bit of research?" She said in what she hoped was a slightly curious tone.\n\n
