Sorrel was feeling rather pleased with herself. She had something that Ash didn't. A pet. And it was a cool pet too. They'd both wanted cool, creepy crawly pets, but their parents had refused, and they were probably against school rules anyway. But now she had one. She'd been unpacking at the weekend, not having got around to it until then. She'd found her pet lurking in the bottom of her wardrobe. Most girls would have shrieked and run away but Sorrel, being not 'most girls' had picked it up and let it crawl over her hands.
It was lucky she always carried several glass jars, for the collection of things like frogspawn. She'd popped the overly large spider into one and secured a sheaf of parchment over the top with an elastic band, poking several air holes in with her quill. The spider didn't look unusual, just big. She assumed it was just a standard Muggle spider, but a little check wouldn't hurt. Besides the fact it involved either books or a Professor. She didn't want to choose the latter, though it would undoubtably be quicker, in case they made her give her pet up.
She went to the Care of Magical Creatures section and pulled off several books, one about magical creatures in general, an encyclopaedia of magical beasts, one on insects and - fianlly - one specifically on spiders. She hurried to the nearest table, glad to set the weighty books down. She pulled out the spider one first, flicking through to see if there was a comparison between a basic Muggle and a basic Magical spider, if such things existed. \n\n
Kaylie had been randomly browsing the library. She wasn't an especially big reader. That was more her little brother's thing. But she was kind of bored and was hoping maybe a good book would keep her occupied.
The floor was kind of slippery. Kaylie grinned and took off her shoes. She ran a little and slid...ran and slid....ran and crashed into a bookshelf.
Kaylie looked up to find books scattered about the floor next to her. She was directly in front of a table where another girl was sitting with a bunch of books and a spider in a jar. Kaylie grinned up at her sheepishly. "Nice spider you've got there." She said. Kaylie had never been bothered by spiders or other "ooky" things.\n\n
They're creepy and they're cooky, mysterious and spooky...

OOC - I never, I don't think, said that she had the spider out in front of her. I've written like she has now, cos it's not a big problem here, but be careful about writing for other people's characters please, cos it can sometimes have a far bigger effect on events. Thanks!
BIC Sorrel jumped and looked up sharply as the crashing sound disturbed her concentration. It was just another student. And it wasn't even Ash, who she would have suspected of something like interrupting her reading. Startling someone when they were concentrating on something else was a guaranteed way to make them jump, and she hated being made to jump, because it made her look weak and nervous and girly. It was almost as bad as crying. She was glad she had her spider with her, it proved she wasn't princessish. "Thanks," she smiled back, though not a huge cheesy grin, they were for people who like, said things like 'Oh my God, I was like totally no way!'. Sorrel wasn't one of those. But she smiled, sans teeth, glad at finding another girl who thought spiders were cool. "I found it in the bottom of my wardrobe, and I'm keeping it. You know anything about if there's such a thing as a magical spider," she asked, tapping the glass. The spider scuttled in tight circles round the bottom of the jar. "or if it's just a really big Muggle one?" she pondered, continuing to look at her pet. \n\n

Kaylie pulled herself up off the floor and walked over to the table. She brushed a strand of her long blond hair out of her face and peered at the spider. "I don't know." Kaylie said. She wasn't afraid of spiders but she didn't know that much about them. Her own pets were an orangeish ferret named Irie and a crab named Claws who were both currently in her room here. Claws wasn't some little hermit crab either. He was a big old thing.
"I just hope it's not a black widow or some other poisonous kind" Kaylie told the girl. "My cousin got bit by one of those once. He almost died. Fortunately, he got the potion for it in time. If he were a Muggle, he wouldn't have been able to get it."\n\n
