A belated Challenge 4 by Sammy Meeks and Wu Peizhi

On a whim, Sammy decided that today, she would go for a walk in the Gardens. She had a general affinity for the outdoors, and while she usually filled herself on the Quidditch Pitch, she was slightly fearful that consistently hanging out in the same location, sportball related or not, might eventually make her bored of it. Sammy definitely didn’t want to get bored of the field on which she played her only regular sport here. Plus, the Gardens were kinda pretty.

Upon arrival, she noticed a peer with whom she had a fairly limited relationship: Wu Peizhi. Being that both girls were close with the Donovans, Sammy saw the small Teppenpaw quite a bit, although they didn’t talk too terribly often. They also seemed to share a familiarity with Laila Kennedy, whom Sammy had met through Gia and Jax.

Sammy decided that now might be a decent opportunity to rectify the lack of conversation she and Wu had. The other girl was facing away, though, and didn’t turn around even as she approached her, which was pretty weird since Sammy wasn’t exactly quiet. She figured Peizhi was focused on something.

“Hey, Wu!” Sammy exclaimed as she reached her, slapping an arm around the smaller girl’s shoulder. But the reaction was not as expected; she watched all the color fade away from Peizhi’s face, her eyes widening in.. was that horror? And she twitched hard before pulling out of Sammy’s grip, taking a few steps away. “Whoa, sorry,” Sammy offered quickly, putting her hands forward to signify peaceful intentions. “Not a hugger, I take it?”

Peizhi shook her hand firmly, though inside, she was still rattling a bit. She was very reserved, both mentally and physically, and having her personal space commandeered in the previous manner was very unsettling before. “Okay, my bad,” offered Samantha “Sammy” Meeks, Muggleborn Pecari third year. “Won’t happen again.”

“Thank you,” Wu answered with sincerity. While she didn’t appreciate Sammy’s touch, she did appreciate the way the girl made amends. Apologizing could be, she knew, one of the hardest things to do in life, something with which even adults could struggle.

“Want to go for a walk with me?” Sammy asked. “I’ll keep a comfortable distance.” She looked so earnest that Wu couldn’t help but smile a little. She nodded and let Sammy lead the way.
