Professor Tabitha Brooding-Hawthorne

Well, it's all official! by Professor Tabitha Brooding-Hawthorne

Tabitha was reclined, with one leg crossed over the other, on the squashy sofa in her new quarters that she shared with her wife. Her wife. Mary Brooding-Hawthorne. She couldn't help the smile that pulled at her lips as she thought about the Potions professor and her eyes flickered down to her new, gleaming wedding ring on the fourth finger of her left hand. It still took her by surprise to see it there but, at the same time, it felt so incredibly right. Lying across her knee was an official copy of their marriage certificate, hard evidence that what had felt to Tabitha like an incredible dream was actually real. She and Mary had signed their names, with Darius as their officiant and Rory and Evangeline as their witnesses. It was binding. It was real. It was forever.

She was now, on official documentation, Professor Tabitha Brooding-Hawthorne. In class and to the students, she was still Professor Hawthorne, just to keep things simple and less confusing. Tabitha quite liked that though. While she loved being married to Mary and was honoured to carry her name next to her own, it was nice to still have a little piece of her former unmarried life.

It was all a new adventure, married life and learning to live together. Mary and Tabitha had kept separate quarters before they were married, even during their engagement and while there had been stay overs and nights spent in each other's arms, actually living and sharing the same space day in and day out was a whole different ball game. It was still new and Tabitha fretted about taking up too much space or annoying Mary by treading on her toes (literally and metaphorically). She didn't want to get in the way of any routine that Mary had, perhaps not realising that she herself had her own little routines - like having to have a cup of tea first thing in the morning before doing anything else.

It was an adjustment and one that Tabitha was more than willing to make but it needed discussing. She needed to speak to Mary. Their relationship had been such a whirlwind romance - but the very best thing to happen to the DADA professor - that Tabitha was sure there were things about Mary that she didn't know. She knew the big, important things, of course but there were the little things, the tiny things that also make a person that she wanted to find out about.

So, she waited - and summoned a cup of tea to wait with - for her wife to return to their quarters with both nerves and happiness.

And lovely! by Professor Mary Brooding-Hawthorne

Mary didn't have to wait for Tabitha's summons to her rooms, or to summon her to her own anymore. Instead, Mary just had to go home. Home was behind a door in the Potions office or the Defense office, and it was one perfect, lovely, wonderful place, shared with her wife. There was nothing in the world as wonderful as that.

The fact that school had started again and that their routine was mostly back to pre-Christmas trends meant that coming home to a big-brained fox like Tabitha was extra special. Mary's face made that perfectly clear when she entered their rooms and greeted Tabitha with a beaming grin before sitting and throwing her arms around her wife. Her wife!

"You're lovely and I missed your face," she said sincerely, planting a smooch on the nearest cheek of that face. "How was your day?"

She smirked at Tabitha's expression and sat back to wait, taking advantage of the tea in front of her. As it turned out, marrying a Brit had really good side effects besides the accent, too.
