Capt. Jack Spencer

The three things Jack had wanted to achieve upon entering Sonora were these: receiving higher marks than his siblings, becoming Head Boy and becoming the Quidditch Captain. In his seventh year, he'd officially achieved two out of three. It wasn't perfect, but not bad either seeing as two were achieved through hard work and the third from sheer luck and one's social status.

Since last year he'd dreamed of what he'd do as captain, watching Umland's every move and observing practises and changes he'd make during try-outs and the like. He was looking forward to organising practises and scheduling his timetable around his Prefect duties whilst studying for his RATS. It was going to be a very full and very busy year, but he was very much looking forward to it.

Jack swelled with pride as he posted the signup sheet on the noticeboard.

Join the Aladren Quidditch Team and let's reclaim our title as the longest running Quidditch champions at Sonora. All are welcome to try out. Below, write your name, year and desired position. Let's make Aladren proud together!

He didn't know if the title was actually true, but a little embellishment never hurt anyone. In the space below, Jack set the example with a flourish and then sauntered off to breakfast to begin his first official day of classes.

Louis Valois

Straight after his conversation with Jack, Louis went to sign up for Quidditch. As Assistant Captain, he figured he ought to put his name down as soon as possible, hoping that others would be encouraged by seeing multiple names. As seemed to be normal now, getting a team together would be a struggle. Back when Louis had started Sonora, Aladren had always managed to rustle up seven players, but Quidditch was less popular now, and all the teams needed new recruits.

Louis only had two years of Quidditch left and, as much as he’d enjoyed the pick-up games, he’d quite like to have two years of a proper Championship. He made a mental note to go around the common room at some point that evening, trying to encourage people to add their names to the sheet. Flying lessons for the first years would hopefully convince them to sign up, but it never hurt to point out that the opportunity was already there, and older students could potentially be persuaded too.

Still, it was with optimism that Louis signed his name up on the sheet:

Assistant Captain Louis Valois, 6th Year, Chaser/Beater/anything

As ever, Louis was happy to play wherever to ensure they had a team. He still had a fondness for his original position of chaser, but he’d come to really enjoy beating too. Ultimately, Jack could stick him anywhere (except in the spectator stands!), and he was sure he’d adapt and have fun.

OOC: Feel free to assume Louis badgered your character into signing up, if it helps, or tag him in a conversation!

Amelia Layne

Last year had not, all things considered, been the most glorious for the Aladren Quidditch team. Not the worst – but considering that Amelia had not touched the Snitch, that was only because they hadn’t been able to form a full team, their captain had…sort of been an argument against the idea that precedence should automatically go with age – Amelia had found John fascinating and a bit frightening, one of those Emily Bronte sort of people, only not because a guy and one whose life had apparently gotten all kinds of dramatic last year with rumors about Sammy Meeks and some kind of Epic Drama with his brother (Amelia wished to embroider the story yet further and insert Sammy somehow into that, but that would be asking too much of fate and probably of Joe and Sammy as well) – and the order of who would follow him had been pretty unclear all year. Amelia was frankly not confident there would even be a captain to post the list, as it was also asking too much of fate to have the school formally decide to have Jack and Louis decide it in the arena.

Someone, however, must have found a more orderly system, because Louis was still Assistant Captain and Jack was captain-captain and the list did not indicate that either had killed the other to make this work out. Hard for dead people to lead teams, after all.

The practical, realistic bits of Amelia’s brain, the ones which pointed out things like how it was inefficient for teams with an existing shortage of players to encourage the remaining ones to kill each other in tournaments, knew that letting her have her position back would not be the smartest option for Jack and Louis. However, the same bits also reminded her that they, well, might not have much of a choice in the matter. The first year class was tiny, and Aladren not the most represented House in it. This allowed her to sign up again as Amelia Layne, third, Seeker once again without too much anxiety or too many second thoughts as she went on about another of her drama-less but not entirely unsatisfying days.
