A map would be helpful right about now by Neal Padrig

Neal had been interested in the school’s labyrinth since his dad had first told him about it, way back when he had only just received his letter. Tackling a maze of Sonora’s magnitude was something he had only ever day dreamed about. And between the hedges that guaranteed getting lost and the rumors of rogue creatures, some being quiet possibly too dangerous to handle on one’s own, Neal was more excited than any first years should be about trying to take it on. When he finally had a free Saturday to himself with no homework or Quidditch, he got up early and bolted out of his common room to get a head start on solving the labyrinth after grabbing only a quick bite to eat. With any luck he could get done before lunch.

He left towards the Gardens feeling refreshed and prepared. The weather was cool, but not searing hot. He wore well-fitted dark jeans and a wrinkled navy polo with half of the collar sticking up and the other side smothered down. His mahogany hair was, as always, a complete mess and stood up straight at awkward angles, some of it covering his eyes. Not that he minded, since the bloodshot dark eyes and the deep purple bags under them had caused one-too-many problems so far for him as far as getting to know people went. He wasn’t sure he’d ever get over the fact his eyes had actually made someone cry.

Neal made to enter the maze but froze, realizing that if he went through the entrance he was at than he’d go straight to his Pecari Commons. That was too easy to start from since he already was familiar with that route. He was slightly frustrated and started to circle the hedges when he noticed someone walking nearby. Strange, he thought he was the only person up this early. But he was more grateful than confused. Maybe they could help him out.

“Excuse me,” he called out, striding to get closer to them so he wouldn’t have to shout. “Do you know where another entrance to the Labyrinth here is? Besides the one by the suit or armor?” Hopefully they knew and could tell him. Otherwise he might spend more time wandering than he would like to.

I was just thinking the same thing... by Caleb Nichols

Caleb woke up early in the morning. He wasn't normally an early riser, but he had decided he would wander around for a while. He enjoyed wandering; he tended to be a wanderer when left alone for a while. He rose out of bed and walked out of the common room and out of the library. It looked to be a nice day and he had heard about the legendary Labyrinth Gardens of Sonora Academy, and decided he would roam around in them.

He was walking around, enjoying the nice weather and was looking for the entrance the gardens that rose up beside him when he came across another person. "Good morning!" he said with a friendly smile. He found that in the morning, especially at this early time, people were prone to be more cranky than anything else. So he tried to be more polite and end with a smile. The smile always got people. He adjusted his glasses and realized that the person had asked about another entrance.

"Oh, I'm sorry. I actually don't know any other way to get into the gardens. Actually, I've never been in and was planning on wandering around until I found an entrance. And then I was planning on wandering around, trying to find my way out." He hoped this person didn't get to upset with him, and respected that he really didn't know anything about the gardens.

"But, I can walk with you to help you find another entrance. I'm Caleb Nichols, first year Aladren." He smiled again. He thought that it wouldn't be that bad to wander around, trying to find an entrance. It was after all a nice day outside. It could be worse: it could be raining. But, if it had been raining he probably wouldn't have been outside in the first place.

Great minds think alike, right? by Neal

Caleb seemed like a happy guy, all smiles and politeness and glasses-nudging as he talked to Neal. The Pecari was glad to hear that he had taken an interest in figuring out the maze, too. “That’s cool, I know of an entrance already, but I was hoping to find a new one since I already know that other one pretty well. Maybe we should just both tackle it together, then?” He titled his head to the side, offering his own sunny smile. Caleb seemed to like them, so maybe that’s what he had to do to show that he was being sincere. Wandering around with someone else was more fun than doing it alone.

“By the way, I’m Neal Padrig. I’m a first year in Pecari who should’ve been sorted into Aladren.” That was his opinion at least. So far the person he seemed to click with the best, a girl named Mariana Ravenmore, had been an Aladren and seemed interested in all the things he was. It only cemented his belief that he had gotten someone else’s potion. Wouldn’t that be fortuitous if he would run into an adventurous Aladren who hated school one of these days.

“So like I said,” he continued, “I’m familiar with that entrance enough to take us to about the middle. I start to get lost there - I’ve been to more dead ends than I should. Maybe I’ll have better luck with a partner.” He smiled again and started to take off at a steady pace to the middle of the maze. Hopefully Caleb was still up for working with him through it.
