Dozing in the sun by Talitha Cumni

Talitha went over her notes. Ancient Runes was really a fascinating subject. There was some much meaning in such simple figures. Of course, her people hadd there own form of picture writing. Very close to here was a sacred place where some Native American writing still braved the elements to this very day even though wind, sun , rain and muggle pollution threatened to erase them forever. Totems were also related, possibly even closer to her new favorite subject. Each animal or figure had a magical and spiritual meaning, some so sacred and powerful that one never shared their meanings with anyone.

Putting away her notes and picking up her wand, Talitha studied her personal totems. She got out her knife from her bag and ever so carefully began to carve her latest edition. Someday if she lived long enough, all four sides of the wand would be covered with her Medicine symbols. Today was a special day. Today she began to learn a whole new language that was sure to open strange and wonderful doors for her.

The symbol was simple, but Talitha worked to make sure she got it just right. Dagaz. New Beginnings. Death of old worn out or unproductive energy and new birth. The Sun’s light shining, illuminating the way to the right path. Her first Rune learned. Finished, Talitha put away her knife and gently blew across the wand’s handle dislodging loose pieces of rhododendron wood.

Happy, she lay back on the crunchy grass. The weather charms worked their four seasons magic and a light frost the night before had started to brown the grass and turn the leaves of the trees in the garden into a riot of color. The death of an old year soon giving way to the birth to the new. Everything was Dagaz. Before she knew it, she began to doze in the sunshine and dream.
