Glad to be back! by Raoul Delachenne

Raoul was happy to be back. It wasn’t because of the students. He had been too afraid to interact and make friends in the first half. It wasn’t the teachers either. He hadn’t had any long enough to pick any he liked, and besides, they all talked too much in long words. Even people with english as a first language might not pick up on what they said. No, it was just to be here. To be in this magical place. It was heaven on earth.

He had a pretty good holiday with his parents. They stayed inside usually, drinking cocoa, and wishing they had some snow to speak of. Not too much of that in California. Halfway through the holidays they went caroling, singing French versions of American favorites. His favorite was Vive La Vent, or Jingle bells in english. They made sugar cookies and had fun decorating, and less fun tearing down the decorations. He had gotten several knitted sweaters, a model broom that actually flew, a cd of a band he didn’t know (but found he liked their music when he played it) and a ton of candy, both magical and muggle.

He was making his way back to the common room when he heard something, or someone, nearby. Was it his imagination running away with him? Or did he hear twigs snapping. It was midday, too early to be the dark frightening him. Who in the world was it.

Braving a few steps in the sound of the noise, he called out “Allo?”\n

I can agree by Alexis Ashwood

Alexis couldn't believe her luck. She had quite a good midterm, enjoying her time messing with Josiah while not having to worry about school rules, or that mudblood Hyana butting in. No, she had some of her favorite moments that year over midterm. Then she had arrived back at Sonora, and her luck got even better.

She had been looking for Hyana, wanting to give her the wonderful present Alexis had bought her over the holidays. It was innocent enough, some necklace thing, but after a while of being worn, it caused the wearer to break out into hideous hives. She had so looked forward to seeing Hyana's reaction, and Joey's when he saw her. But no matter how hard she looked...that mudblood was nowhere to be found.

Alexis couldn't believe it. She had found out from some other people, and, judging from Joey's mood, Hyana was gone! She had finally driven that mudblood away. Still, she found it sad. Even if the stupid girl was to shy to look someone in the eyes, she expected Hyana to put up more of a fight. Well, it was too late now. She couldn't wait to tell her favorite cousin, Chrysi! This was too good to be true!

So Alexis had taken some paper and a pen, ready to write to Chrysi. She didn't want to write in the commons, and wanted to be out in the open. Well, why not go to the Labyrinth Gardens? She walked happily outside of her commons and into the gardens. She still didn't know the place well, seeing that she had spent most of her time at the beginning of the year figuring out how to get rid of Hyana, and ended up somewhat lost.

Some kid seemed to know where he was going, and she quietly followed him. She hoped to see where he was going, hoping to find some kind of spot that was ideal to sit down and write in the process, but she stepped on some falling twigs. He called out, and she smiled. No reason to be rude to him. He might prove useful.

"Hey there." she greeted back. "I'm just taking a walk around. It's very nice out. What about you?"

Bonjour! by Raoul

Raoul smiled warmly at the newcomer. She was very pretty, and she looked to be his age. He liked her red hair the best. Her ran his fingers through the spiked front of his hair self consciously.

"Hey there. I'm just taking a walk around. It's very nice out. What about you?

“Well, I was headed to my common room. But I’m just enjoying the gardens right now. Maybe I might find that swing I heard about. Je m’appelles Raoul, et vous? Quel est votre nom? Oh shoot! I did it again!” He blushed furiously and kicked his brown-sneakered shoe into the ground, digging a small rut.

“Pardon, I am Raoul. It is a bad habit of mine, I keep speaking in French. I am from France, of course, but we moved to America last year. In California. So it is tough sometimes.”

He smiled at her, nervously putting his hand behind his neck. He laughed self-consciously.

“Hey…you look like some girl in Pecari. I do not know her name…do you have a sister here?” He asked. What was that other girl’s name? He often saw her hanging around one of three people. Some blond girl with an attitude problem, some bouncy blonde girl, and a brunette boy who seemed to freak out when people touched him.

“Oh non! I am sorry I am just babbling, am I not?” He dropped his hands to his sides. He laughed a bit and flashed the girl a crooked smile. “So what is your name?”

Salut by Alexis

Alexis gave him a warm smile back. Since she had no reason to be cruel to him, she might as well be nice. After all, who knew what she could actually shape him to be? He mentioned a swing, which puzzled her a little. She hadn't heard of a swing. She'd actually have to get out more now that she had no reason to hide in her commons plotting 24/7.

"Je m’appelles Raoul, et vous? Quel est votre nom?" Her golden brown eyes widened just a little at this. French? He spoke really good French. Being a pureblood, Alexis was already learning many languages, and French was her favorite, next to Spanish. She was a little surprised by his outburst. Did what again?

"Oh, I understand." she replied once he explained. "Well, not really understand, but you speaking french doesn't bother me in the least." She decided to pull on one of her least favorite acts. The, dare she do it, sweet girl act. "You don't need to be self consious about it. You can speak french around me."

Alexis had to try really hard to hide the anger when he said she looked like the girl from Pecari. Alexis knew all too well who he was talking about. Raoul was comparing her to that filthy, disgusting, mudblood girl Josiah always hung out with. Hoping that her anger wasn't showing, she smiled sweetly.

"I know who you're talking about. My cousin Josiah hangs out with her often. Her name is Elly." she replied. She giggled, trying to sound like a nice girl. It wasn't working well, but maybe it would fool him. Not only did she hate the good, sweet girl act, she was close to awful at it. He asked her name, and she decided to show off, but only a little.

"Je m'appelle Alexis Ashwood. J'ai onze ans et une première année dans Crotalus. Il est agréable de vous rencontrer, Raoul." She smiled at the end, quite proud of herself. She had paused a couple of times, trying to make it seem that she was fighting for words to say. It wasn't proper to show off too much.

OOC: I dunno what you've learned in your French class...so I'm just gonna put the translation anyway. I love babblefish.

Je m'appelle Alexis Ashwood. J'ai onze ans et une première année dans Crotalus. Il est agréable de vous rencontrer, Raoul.---My name is Alexis Ashwood. I am eleven years old, and a first year in Crotalus. It is nice to meet you, Raoul.

Ca va? by Raoul

This Alexis girl seemed pretty cool. She knew French, which was a plus. Perhaps she could help improve his english? She said she didn’t mind him speaking French around her. That was cool. Maybe she would be nice? Like Hyana and Holly? He missed Holly, maybe he could see if he could find her somewhere?

However, something didn’t settle right with him. He couldn’t put his finger on it, but something about her felt off. Perhaps it was just his own silly paranoia.

“Enchanté aussi, Mademoiselle Ashwood,” He said with a slight bow of his head. He winked at her, “I hope the two of us can get along agreeably, no?” He said. He hoped to make as many friends as he could.

“You mentioned a cousin? Josiah? Who is Josiah? I have not heard of him before, is he not a Pecari? And what house do you belong to? I have not seen you in my commons.” He was curious. He didn’t interact much with other houses, except in classes, and only when forced to.

He had an idea. He knew how to keep her hanging out with him, without her leaving. Maybe the two of them could find the swing! It’s said to have been made by a Pecari, but that figured. After all, Pecari’s were the more rough-and-tumble folk. Teppenpaws were rumored to be all talkative and hyper, Alardens smart, and Crotali were thought to think about blood a lot. Who was pure, who was muggle born. What did it matter? He didn’t know who he was, what he was, and he was fine with that. His parents were the best. As far as he was concerned, he was a muggle-born. Mama and Papa were the only parents that mattered.

But now to see if she would even go exploring with him.

“Would you be interested in a little exploring avec moi?” His eyes sparkled with mischief.

“I have heard a rumor of a swing, that was made by an older student here. They say it is really tough to find if you do not know where it is at. I know these gardens like the back of my hand.” He puffed his chest out proudly, “Because it is easy to get here from my common room, I explore here a lot. What do you say? I could use an astute female brain to run things around here.” He smiled at her, eager for some fun.

I know what that means! by Alexis

Alexis smiled as she bowed her head back. "I'm sure we can get along." As long as you're not some friend of Josiah's...or a mudblood, she added in her head. This Raoul guy really didn't seem that bad. And if he was something as awful as a halfbreed, or worse, a mudblood, he didn't know who Josiah was! And he seemed polite enough...

Well, why not turn him against Josiah right away? She smiled sadly and hugged her arms. "Josiah Ashwood is my cousin...he's in Teppenpaw, I think." she replied quietly. "You're lucky to not know him Raoul...he's an awful person. He's always so mean. I know this mu...girl named Hyana who had to transfer schools because of him! I wouldn't get mixed up with him if I were you." she looked around carefully before continuing.

"He's a real jerk, flirting with every girl he sees. It's really awful. And Teppenpaw's supposed to be the house for nice people..." She smiled at his question, trying not to show the annoyance in his question. Didn't she already say what house she was in? Was he not paying attention when she said it?!

"I'm in Crotalus, a first year." she replied. The nice girl act was coming to her easier and easier now. "I don't like being in it. Crotalus has a horrible reputation. I don't think I'm as mean as people say Crotalus's are."

Raoul's eyes then changed when he asked her to explore with him. "Of course!" she said, in sincere excitement. He said she had an astute brain! That had to be something, right? "I haven't been out and around much either. I usually stay in my commons." she then said in a whisper, "I'm usually hiding from Josiah." She walked closer to him with a smile.

"Since you know these gardens like the back of your hand, where do you suggest we look?" she asked. She couldn't believe that Raoul was so easily falling for her act. Sure, she was being nice, and it was starting to seem really real to her. Maybe, just maybe, after she got past his annoying shyness, she could shape him into what she wanted. Besides, he didn't seem like he had any backbone whatsoever.
