Seeking peace, like Zen or something by Raoul

Raoul couldn’t stand it anymore! The people here, most of them at least, talked so fast! He had only spoken English for about a year now, and while he had taken to the language rather quick, he still spoke in French at home. Plus, he was used to his tutor speaking slower to him. He managed his first conversation okay, but also the girl, when not excited, spoke at an easy to follow pace. Even when she spoke too fast, he understood most of what she said.

Even in his own dorm room he overheard a guy speaking in some strange language that sounded like English, but somehow it wasn’t. Almost all of what he said was odd combinations of words that made little sense. And another kid, probably in the same year as the strangely speaking kid, had a habit of speaking to his friends at speeds not even an American could keep up with. What in the world did ’madcoolawesome’ mean anyways?

Then there were the evil people in his dorm. Two, that he saw so far. One, a young girl with dark hair and a scowl, sent off rays of malice that weren’t to be ignored. The other, a girl with a sharp blonde braid, seemed to radiate hate half the time, yet she was to be found smiling very often. It confused Raoul, and he didn’t know how to handle her. And there were two older people, who looked to be twins, that scared him to no end just by how they looked.

Then there were the strange ones. There was that one redhead girl, who seemed as if she could be heard across the school. There was another who freaked out if anyone seemed to get too close. There was one boy who was pounding and yelling at their head of house’s door (he had come down from his room after staking claim to the bed by the window) screaming about some ’Michael’ kid. He had hastily retreated back to his dorm after that.

That was just in his house alone. He was afraid to find out about the other students. He even heard that the ’Teppenpaw’ house was more hyper and happy than his own. The thought of that scared him to no end. Besides that, he was afraid of doing magic, that he was going to mispronounce the strange words. Fortunately, most of the spells had roots in the same language his own did; Latin.

He was getting the worst headache of his young life concentrating on translating all the words said around him. So he went to the only place that he could think of. He went to the labyrinth gardens.

It was easy, as his dorm room went straight to the gardens. He slowly walked through the gardens, happy to be free of most of the noise of the commons, and Cascade Hall. He stopped about midway through at a small pond. He sat down near the water, took off his sandles, and dipped his feet into the water. Propping his elbows on his knees, he cradled his forehead in his hands. “Remerciez Dieu, il est silencieux enfin,” He breathed. He closed his eyes, happy to be free of the constant chatter. What noise did come to him, it was so distant that he couldn’t understand it even if he tried. Perfect.

He jumped about a foot high when he felt an arm on his shoulder. Looking up, he asked slowly, “Oui?”

OOC: Traslation: Remerciez Dieu, il est silencieux enfin- Thank god, it’s silent at last\n

Hmm, medative therapy. That might work by Holly Greer

Holly needed to get out. There were too many people in Pecari. She was used to living in a space a good deal larger with only three other people besides herself. Worse, there were no horses, so her usual method of stress relief - riding Wendy - was unavailable. She needed to calm down and relax before she burst into tears or started screaming or otherwise demonstrated in a rather spectacular fashion that while she was not delusional, she was still emotionally fragile.

With this in mind, she decided on her second most relaxing activity after riding Wendy. She dressed in a two piece pink bathing suit with small purple flowers on it, pulled a bathing robe over it, and grabbed the lounge chair that had barely fit in her suitcase even with enlarging spell her therapist's secretary had put on it. Still, leaving it home had not been an option, especially since Wendy wouldn't be able to come.

Dragging it out into the gardens, she wandered around looking for someplace to settle down, but her sandals were not meant for much walking and she she quickly became impatient. Spotting one of the strange short disfigured people with the floppy ears, she asked it directions for where she could find some water that she could sun herself beside and it directed toward a small pond not too far away.

When she got there, she found she wasn't the only person seeking someplace quiet and away. She set out her chair, but the only indication she received about whether or not they minded her presence was a softly muttered phrase that she didn't catch. She left her chair behind and moved to stand behind him. Placing an arm on his shoulder to balance as she leaned over so she could talk to him rather than the air some distance over his head, she asked, pointing to the chair, "Do you mind if I invade your space to sun myself over there? I may swim later as well."

In her experience, boys didn't mind having girls in bathing suits around, but it was best to ask. Of course, she was currently still in her bathing robe and she had no curves to speak of, but that wasn't really the point, was it? She was still pretty.

OOC: Okay, this is a REALLY late reply, I know. I am really sorry. My author has been swamped with play rehearsals for Beauty and the Beast and has spaced out on her posts. She promises that she will do much, much better if you forgive her.. Well even if you don’t forgive her she’ll do much, much better. Though she hopes you understand

IC: Raoul found himself looking at a girl in a bath towel with dark hair. She requested an invasion of his space. Oh like he was going to say no? That would be rude, and selfish. It wasn’t like he owned the gardens, even if he did like the quiet they brought. She didn’t seem like that bad of a girl, Raoul decided.

“Go ahead, Mademoiselle, I do not mind at all,” Raoul said, motioning towards her chair. “I don’t know why you’d swim in this pond, after all I do not know if it is clean. It is a natural pond, probably has frogs in it.” He shrugged, “Then again, my feet are in the water, aren’t they?” he grinned.

He looked at her. She seemed familiar to him, but he didn’t know from where. He looked back at the water. There probably really were frogs in the water. Maybe they would be the kind that Papa made frogs legs from? Maybe he would ask the prairie elves to see if they could get him something from his hometown? It would be nice, but he doubted they would be able to. He couldn’t wait until his tutor got him his textbooks! Maybe then being in this English boarding school would be a bit easier?

It was odd, living in this hot desert air. There were charms around the place, he learned, that controlled the weather. He wondered how complicated that was? Would they be able to do anything? Like make it snow in winter, even in the desert? Or make it rain whenever the ground dried up? Could there be any terrible storms? He wanted to learn all there was to know about Sonora, it would be fun.

Suddenly, he realized where he had seen the girl before. “YOU!” he shouted, to Holly it would seem out of no where. “You’re the girl who asked our head of house about horses aren’t you? You’re a Pecari!” He grinned triumphantly, “Sorry, I haven’t even said my name yet, I’m Raoul.” \n

That darn cat by Holly Greer

OOC: I'll forgive you. Good luck with your play. BIC:

Holly smiled at him, her teeth flashing white and as perfect as the orthodontist had been able to make them. She was immediately charmed by his accent and being called 'Mademoiselle'. It made her feel all grown up and sophisticated. "Merci," she said with a small curtsy, using up half her French vocabulary with the sentiment. She would have begun taking it as a second language this year if she'd stayed in her old school, but perhaps she'd pick up some of it here anyway.

She eyed the pond warily when he mentioned frogs, half expecting a small army of amphibians to come marching out, but if they were in there, they were staying hidden. Perhaps she'd skip the swimming. It wasn't that hot out anyway, even in the sun.

She had just draped her bathrobe over the back of her chair and was about to sit down when she jumped about a foot in the air as he shouted, "YOU!" Alarmed, she turned back toward him, with a hand over her racing heart and looked around for whatever foe he was addressing. There was no one else there and he was looking at her.

"You’re the girl who asked our head of house about horses aren’t you? You’re a Pecari!"

She was about to get defensive and insist that this did not make her a mannerless lout when two things happened. She realized that if he'd heard her question about horses, he was also a Pecari, and he recovered himself enough to introduced himself.

"Yes," she confirmed, calmer now that she knew she wasn't being insulted or attacked. "I am Holly Thistle of the Hollywood Thistles." Now that she'd introduced herself this way quite a few times, she no longer felt guilty about not using her legal name. "It's a pleasure to meet you, Raoul. I asked about horses because I was not allowed to bring mine to school with me. Have you ridden?" She pulled her chair a few feet closer to him and settled into it, making herself comfortable.

I know, but she's a good cat, just pesky :P by Raoul

"Yes, I am Holly Thistle of the Hollywood Thistles. It's a pleasure to meet you, Raoul. I asked about horses because I was not allowed to bring mine to school with me. Have you ridden?"

Raoul smiled. This girl was easy to get along with, and she didn’t talk fast like a lot of the other pecaris. The way she addressed herself, he assumed she was a pureblood. He didn’t care about blood types, being muggleborn himself, he just hoped she didn’t either. Not that he knew what he was anyways.

“I have ridden once in my life, however the horse was led by another person,” He dropped the ‘h’s as he spoke, “I wanted to take riding lessons when I moved here from France, however Mama and Papa said that they wanted me to get better at speaking English before I got involved in anything.”

He paused looking around at the scenery around him. He liked this spot. Perhaps he would come here more often? “I was going to start up riding lessons next year, but then my parents got the letter, the one from the school. They are both muggles, you see, and never knew magic existed. Well, besides Halloween style magic, where witches should be ugly and green. But this,” he gestured around, “ruined my lessons that they had planned for me. But c’est la vie as I say at home. I would prefer learning magic and not knowing how to ride horses than not learn magic at all. I’m just terrified my accent will ruin my pronouncing of the words…” He faded off staring at the water.

He looked back up at Holly. “What do you know about magical things? Do you know many things? Or not very many things? I live near ‘Ollywood. I live in California, which I think is where ‘Ollywood is, correct? Do you prefer being back home? I prefer France, to be honest, but I like it here well enough.”

He glanced back at the pond, blushing and pushing up his glasses farther up on his nose. “Sorry, ‘Olly, I’m talking too much. Mama said that I need to control my speaking habits. In French, I can get pretty chatty, so even my parents find it hard to understand me. Yet hearing English so fast from so many people annoys me and gives me a headache. Pardonez moi, s’il vous plait?” He gave her a sheepish grin.

OOC: doubt this is needed but *shrugs*

Pardonez moi, s’il vous plait?- pardon me, if you please? (loosely, will you forgive me?)
C’est la vie- that’s the life. \n

Holly smiled as he spoke. It was a little difficult to understand some of his words because of his accent, but she caught the gist and enjoyed the sound of it. She didn't mind at all that he kept talking long after he'd answered her question, though it was a pity that he'd had to miss out on his riding lessons to go to Sonora.

"It's fine," she excused him in response to his apology. "But yes, I'm from Hollywood, California, and my parents are also all muggles. Perhaps next summer you can come visit, and I can let you ride Wendy. I'm sure my father would like to meet someone I go to school with. My lesson plans were also interrupted by coming here. I was supposed to start taking French in my previous school this year."

She heaved a deep sigh and looked sad. "I do like it here, but I wish I didn't have to leave my family and Wendy for so long. I'm already horribly homesick."
