Rosalynn Tellerman

Rosalynn had put up two different fliers advertising two different clubs, and made reservations in two different MARS rooms for two different times. Today was the one for the Performing Arts Club, and it was taking place in the Dance Room (she had considered the Music Room, but she was pretty sure the Dance Room got used less often, so she felt she was more fair for everyone to hold it there).

This was the one that she was a bit nervous about. It was a new club she was founding and this was its first meeting ever. She'd had practice running the Visual Arts club (previously known as just the 'Art Club' but Rosalynn had felt the need to change its name this year given there was now a 'Performing Arts Club' as well, run by the same person, and she was pretty sure she was earning all the *Creativity* street cred Sonora had to offer by running these two specific clubs) the year before so she at least had a basic idea of how to run a club in a general and administrative sense.

The format here would have to be different, of course, because the mediums were so different. Visual Arts were also a fairly solitary venture generally, while performing arts were very often collaborative in nature.

"Hello, everyone!" she greeted, with a showman's enthusiasm and strong vocal projection. "Welcome to the very first meeting of Sonora's Performing Arts Club! We're a brand new club here, so I'm still trying to figure out exactly what we're going to do with it. Luckily, we have a Fair coming up this year, and that's a great opportunity for us to do some quick informal acts in front of an audience! So I figure at least some of the time we'll try to rehearse some skits or songs or shows or whatever we want to do for that. I know we've got some interest in learning to juggle, and Isla is a great puppeteer!" she grinned at her roommate, then continued on. "I figured we could also devote some meetings to just exploring some different performance fields - Puppetry, Juggling, Dance, Acting, Performative Magic, Singing, Instruments, whatever we have interest in. I'll put up a schedule once we have a comprehensive list, so you will know what meetings you definitely don't want to miss if that's something you want to try or work with. Probably by midterm, we'll have a good idea of what we like to do, and we can start putting together some acts for the fair during the spring term. So right now, I'd like to just open the floor, and let everyone introduce yourself, and let us all know what kinds of performance you want to be involved with. Behind the scenes roles are totally valid and awesome and necessary parts of every show, so don't feel shy about saying that's what you want to do if you're not so keen on the limelight!"

"I'll start. I'm Rosalynn Tellerman, and I've been a co-coordinator of a kind of informal Friday night show in Aladren Commons for a few months, and this year I wanted to expand that to more of the school, so here we are! My mom's a professional dance teacher, so I really like to dance. My dad's a stage magician, and folk singer, and he can juggle, so . . . I've got some basics on quite a few different kinds of performance that I'm really excited to try out with all of you."

She smiled at the person standing to her right. "Your turn," she encouraged.

Isla Brockert

Joining the Performing Arts club was a complete and total non-brainer for Isla. Not only was Rosalynn one of her best friends but here was a club where she could actually do her puppetry! So she could spend time with both her real life human friend and her puppet friends!

Plus, Amethyst was joining so she finally had a place where she could connect with her cousin. The two of them had always gotten on all right, not like say, Topaz and Allegra-of course, nobody could get on with Topaz-but like, they were so different from each other and so, they hadn’t actually ever really bonded . The Aladren was actually closer to Liesl, who while not weird in the exact same way as she was, was still weird so they totally had this Weird Girl bond even though Isla was into puppets and Liesl was into creepy things. She really hoped the Teppenpaw joined as well, not just because they were close, but also because Liesl was totally good at playing villains and other creepy types.

Amethyst, though, wasn’t even really a little weird. Which was fine, generally speaking, because well, it would be totally hypocritical for weird people to be judgemental of normal ones when it was usually the other way around. Plus, if there weren’t normal people, then how could weird ones be considered weird if there was no normal to compare them to?

And honestly, the third year would technically be the left out, different one, not Isla. Which could happen. It had happened to Angelique when she was at Sonora and it was something that the Aladren didn’t want to see happen to anyone. She’d experienced it with the ball last year, and it had been truly awful. Isla was just glad that she had friends to hang out with the rest of the time.

Fortunately, Amethyst was close with her roommate, so the Aladren didn’t have to worry about her being left out. Even when Iris got a date for the ball, Amethyst had still had Alexei to hang out with. Isla had envied her so much for that since the ball had just emphasized how awkward the fourth year was. She knew that even though she had Liesl and her roommates and her other family, things like that were just easier for people like Amethyst.

And the pureblood world had a lot of those sorts of things, though even Isla did better at the pureblood functions than she had at Sonora’s ball. After all, she was still a Brockert, and plus, there were pureblood boys who were weird too. Contrary to what some believed, purebloods weren’t some cookie cutter bunch and to assume they were was a disservice and just as wrong as painting any other group with one brush.

Still, Isla really did hope that the Performing Arts club would give her a sense of belonging. While there were many different types of performing arts and she was the only puppeteer that she knew of, on some level this was something that they all enjoyed. Maybe, just maybe, Isla could introduce others to the wonders of puppetry.

And maybe, for the concert next year, they could all put on a play or do something else as a collaborative performance. Although, the fourth year wasn’t exactly sure how the concert was going to work next year, since it was a Challenge year and she did hope those were held next year, both because she hoped to get to know some people she might not otherwise and because, well, Esme was really hoping to get to lead a team and had looked forward to doing so ever since she’d figured out that they’d come around again when she was a seventh year.

Of course, the Challenges had been horribly traumatic for Allegra given that she was the only girl on her team and some of them involved physically based skills which Allegra lacked. Plus, going up against Topaz was not ever a pleasant experience because regardless of which of you won, you always ended up losing against her. Allegra’s team had literally lost to Topaz but Ruby’s had beaten hers and so, therefore, the summer after was traumatic for Ruby.

However, as Topaz was no longer at Sonora, neither Isla or Esme would have to go up against her, just each other, Olaf, who would be starting school next year, Amethyst, Jasper, Chris and Liesl. None of those would be problematic.

Anyway, maybe with the Challenges, they’d just get a band or something to come in. Or each team would have to do an act-in which case, Isla hoped she could convince hers to a puppet show.

Rosalynn began the introductions and Isla beamed when her friend complimented her puppetry skills. After the other Aladren finished introducing herself, Isla took her turn. “I’m Isla Brockert and like Rosalynn said, I’m very into puppetry and that’s my main interest but I’m willing to try other things as well “ She turned to the person on her other side, waiting for them to go.
