Almost time. by Annabelle Pierce

Annabelle walked into the apartment she shared with her twin sister, wearing sensible shoes, a pinstripe skirt, and a plain blouse that just shouted 'I am a professional businesswoman!' Despite that she held a fifty percent share in two businesses, Annabelle was not actually a professional businesswoman. She left that up to Annette while she designed clothing and jewelry and then made them. However, on top of doing that (during a Sonora ball year no less), she was also walking the walk and talking the talk to cover up the fact that Annette hadn't left the apartment except under disillusionment spells to see her doctor in over four months.

Annette was able to do most of her work from home and through correspondence so it wasn't as horrendous as it could have been, but it was still a strain on both of them - Annabelle for handling the clients she usually left to her more business savvy partner when person to person contact was required, and Annette for being pregnant.

"Everything okay in here?" she called out, kicking off the shoes that actually were a whole lot more comfortable to wear all day than the ones she was used to, but it was still a relief to be rid of them.

Annette waddled into the main living room from the kitchen, looking huge. There was no mistaking one twin for the other right now. One was her usually svelte figure, the other looked ready to pop any second. "Almost have dinner ready," Annette shared the mundane to indicate the lack of anything terrifying starting up yet. "I got hungry so I started the spaghetti early."

Annabelle nodded. "Good. I got those bridesmaid dresses delivered, so we're actually ahead of schedule, and we should be able to take a couple weeks off when the baby comes, other than the standard maintenance around the apartment building, but you said you found a service we can hire out for that?"

"Good. And yeah. That's all set up. I just need to tell them when to start."

"Nothing came of those contractions you were having earlier?" Annabelle asked a little anxiously.

Annette shook her head. "Nah, they stopped after a couple hours. Contraction free for seven hours."

"Good. I'm not quite ready to become a mom today."

"Better get ready quick. I'm due in a week and a half. Kiddo could come any time now."

Annabelle drew in and let out a breath of air. "I know. I will be. We've got the room ready. I've been making cute outfits out of the scraps from the dresses I've been sewing. I just . . . probably need to have it happen to really adjust to this."

"I'm ready for this kid to get out of me as soon as it wants to. I want my body back." She suddenly winced and rubbed at her rib. "Mama is not a bludger, sweets." Looking at Annabelle, she shook her head. "I swear the kid's got a bat in there."

"You sit. I'll finish up the spaghetti."
