Hey, friend group? [tag Lydia, Liesl, Patience, Niamh] by Hansel Hexenmeister

Hansel was twelve years old and felt he was not ready yet to try dating. Girls were nice and didn't have cooties or anything, but dating seemed like a pretty serious thing that he didn't want to attempt yet. Plus, he had a few friends who were girls now, and it didn't seem fair at all to ask one to spend time with him at the ball and ignore all the others. Hilda had told him she was 'going with friends,' and Hansel thought this sounded like a much better option.

He had a number of friends, too, and not only girls, but he thought a smaller group might be better and they could mix and match as necessary once they got there if they ran into other people, but for the core group it seemed to make the most sense to start with his Housemates, so they could just all walk down to the Hall together and that would be easy.

So he sat in the common room today and collected up all of the Beginner Teppenpaws, and made his proposal: "Hey, do we want to go as a group of friends to the ball together?" Admittedly, he knew some of them better than others; Lydia was in his year and Liesl was an actual friend with a common interest in snakes, but Liesl didn't have a room all to herself so presumably the first year girls all knew each other pretty well by now, and Hansel did want to get to know the other ones better. "If you have other plans, that's totally fine. I just thought I'd suggest it as an idea."

Midterm had been really nice for Lydia. She had been so happy to see her parents and brother and her cousin Gwendolyn and other family that wasn't at school. At school she only had Sophia and Bridget who didn't pay attention to her much. Bridget was in her house and talked to her some, but mostly had her own issues to worry about. Sophia, on the other hand, was just plain aloof.

Honestly, sometimes Lydia didn't think her sister liked her much at all. The Aladren wasn't horribly mean and didn't pick on her or anything like that, but she just didn't seem all that interested in the second year and often seemed irritated with her. Lydia wished that they were closer, like Gwendolyn and Misty were. True, they bickered at times, while she never really did with Sophia, because the seventh year more or less ignored her, but they usually made up quickly. She fervently hoped that she and her sister would be closer when they were adults and the age difference between them didn't seem quite so huge.

Of course, Connor was even older than Sophia was and he still payed attention to her and Peyton, his fiancee, was wonderful. She was like a big sister to Lydia, and though it felt mean to think it, more of one than her actual big sister. So was Val, who was the person that the second year usually went to when she needed something,

Truthfully though, Lydia really admired her sister, despite the fact that Sophia often seemed rather cold. However, the Aladren was tough, strong, independent, outspoken, opinionated and popular as in a school as small as Sonora, having a tight group of three friends, made one fairly popular. In other words, she was everything that Lydia wasn't, all that she knew she'd never be able to be. She, on the other hand, was weak, wimpy, needy and shy. She was anxious and afraid of everything.

She was sure that this was why her sister seemed to have very little patience with her and probably why Iris seemed to prefer Amethyst who was confident, outgoing, glamorous and sophisticated. Lydia could hardly fault the Crotalus for preferring her roommate to the Teppenpaw.

Still, she was often terribly lonely at Sonora. Sophia was super aloof, uninterested in her and busy with her group of friends. Bridget had her own issues and Jezebel. Iris had Amethyst. Hans had Liesl and the snake that Lydia was completely and utterly terrified of. Val had her girlfriend and Lavender and the gaming club. So basically, she felt like she was in everyone's way, which was pretty much just like how she felt about her sister.

Lydia joined the other Beginner Teppenpaws in the common room as Hans wanted. She wondered what exactly this was about. Once they were all there, the other second year began to talk-and it sounded like a great idea. Honestly, Lydia was completely grateful for the offer even if it meant hanging out with Liesl, whom she was a tad scared of.

Speaking of which, the younger Teppenpaw spoke up right away. "Sounds totally awesome. I have this totally cool dress that's red and black and totally gothic and amazing." Lydia noted that Liesl had a real tendency to ramble.

Once the first year had finished talking, Lydia spoke up. "I'd also like to. Thanks Hans." Nothing would have been worse than being by herself at the ball.

OOC: Parts about Val and Misty okayed with their authors, Liesl is also mine.
