Melanie Lennox

Melanie had to admit she was a little nervous as she prepared to give the Beginner's Transfiguration lesson. She'd helped her sister on many occasions when she got behind due to illness but that was different. That was Valerie. One person whom she knew needed her.

Which reminded her, with the owls unable to get out due to the clouds, the former Crotalus had to be freaking out. Valerie was in the midst of planning a wedding that had been giving her major anxiety all summer and caused her to have more stomach ailments than she'd had in quite some time, along with the annual sinus infection. She must be so worried that Melanie had abandoned her and the Teppenpaw could only hope that Valerie had been able to get in touch with Brianna and Ryan.

She wasn't even sure anyone would show up for her class. Some students preferred to be taught by professionals and while she knew Transfiguration better than any other subject, she was hardly that. Melanie was a sixth year who got top grades in her classes -though she doubted that she was the best in the advanced class overall, that had to be Evan who was quite good with a wand- but that she didn't mean she knew anything about teaching. Truth be told, she didn't have a lot of experience with younger students. She was willing to help them or anyone else who needed it, but she was used to helping someone older, which was why Melanie was two years ahead in terms of theory. She'd learned it all when Valerie was sick and she'd helped her. Though Ryan had done some of that for Transfig because he was amazing at it. He'd even become an animagus.

The Teppenpaw was normally not a worrier unless it concerned her sister but she couldn't help but worry about this. What if her class was a disaster and something truly went wrong? What if someone got hurt? She knew a little bit about medical potions and nursing because of Valerie but was far from a qualified medic. And she didn't really believe anyone else was right now either. Aria might have had some training in the area too, but she couldn't have been as qualified as Medic Eir .She was just lucky this was Transfiguration and not Defense or something more dangerous. She'd done well in that too, but never really liked the class and had dropped it.

Melanie summoned up all her courage and poise as students began to trickle in. She had to maintain the image that she'd been taught to present all her life. "Hello." She began when she was certain everyone who was coming had shown up. "My name is Melanie Lennox and I will be teaching your Transfiguration lesson today. You may address me as Melanie" It was absolutely necessary for people to attend classes as far as she was concerned because otherwise they'd miss out on part of their education but she couldn't and wouldn't force anyone to be there. "Today, we will be practicing the easiest form of Transfiguration, non-animate to non-animate. On your desk, you will find a pebble which we will be turning into buttons. The incantation for this spell is Pangolus and the wand motion is to make a single circle with your wand. If you are right-handed, it is supposed to be a clockwise motion but if you are left handed you may try counter clockwise though it doesn't work as well, it will be easier if you feel more comfortable. Also, Transfiguration is a subject that depends a lot on the imagination, and it helps a lot of you think of the similarities between the pebble and the button." Whew, she'd made it though and hoped she'd not come across poorly or forgotten to tell them anything. "If you have any questions or feel the need for help, please ask." With that she sat down at Professor Skies' desk. It was a very odd feeling and she wasn't quite comfortable on an emotional level but she could hardly go sit with the students when she was supposed to be in charge.
