Jake's POV by Jake

Jake sat in the last row between a girl with straight brown hair and a guy he didn't know. The Professor was explaining the Flippendo curse, which supposedly is a spell that casts things away from the person who said the incantation.

As soon as the Profesor was done, everyone was either allowed to work in partners or with dummies. Jake preferred a partner, it made for more interesting stimulation. He turned to his right and looked at the girl with brown hair. She looked extremely bored as she stared out the window. He stood and leaned over towards her, tapping her on her shoulder.

Jake laughed as the girl jumped at his touch and looked angrily around at him. He realized that this was Tally Adams, a girl in the same house as him. He remembered her from the sorting. He smiled at him when she met his eye,

"Hey, want to work together?" She looked around before answering him.

"I guess so." They made their way over to where everyone else was working. He watched some of the students fail miserably at the spell and hoped he wouldn't look as bad. He turned and faced Tally,

"Ready?" She nodded, "FLIPPENDO TALLY!" He cried, his hopes and ego high as he watched the spell soar toward her, her face had a look a sheer panic on it. Though Jake had been expecting her to fly backwards into the pile of cushions, he laughed hard when instead, she feel backwards onto her butt with a hard thump. She stood up, looking angry and embarrassed,

"What? You didn't even do it right!" She snapped at him, her hands placed in an angry motion onto her hips.

"So, did you see your face?" He said laughing. "Your turn." He watched her prepare herself for the incantation. He mildly remembered hearing glass shattering to the right of him, but didn't have time to look because Tally had the spell his way. With the same results he had had, Jake found himself on his behind, which was now probably bruised. He stood up and through the curse back at her, embarrassed that she had knocked him down. His spell didn't get nearly as far as the last one as she had thrown up a shield charm to block it.

"HEY!, NO FAIR!" He cried, how'd he know that spell, anyway? He thought. Tally shrugged and so the battle between the two began.

They continued like this for about ten minutes before Tally finally got the better of him and threw him into the cushions. He watched her gloat and succeeding and angrily sent the spell back. Watching in surprise and ecstacy when she was thrown backwards into the cushions behind her. Jake smiled triumphantly as she stood back up looking shocked.

Surprisingly she smiled at him and raised her wand to continue. This class is definitely going to be fun, Jake thought with a smile as he raised his wand in return.\n\n
