Fair meeting - France by Professor Perrault

Edward was glad that he’d been able to run the France fair group. Although it was up to the students to do the research and decide what they wanted to do with their booth, he thought his knowledge of the country (given his strong ties to it) could be helpful for them.

There were a few French students at Sonora and as it turned out, two of them had signed up for their home country. Edward thought it could be good to have some students who had grown up in the French culture, but he hoped they didn’t take charge too much, especially since the rest of the group were first years. The Charms teacher supposed that’s what he was really here for - to oversee everything and make sure it ran smoothly and no one got left out. Everyone in the group should have equal opportunities, irrelevant of their prior knowledge of the country, and he knew that a lot of students had signed up for countries they knew absolutely nothing about.

Edward had sent owls out to the students signed up for France, with arrangements to meet in the Charms classroom.

“Good afternoon,” he welcomed them when all five members of the group had arrived. “Welcome to the first meeting for the France booth. I’m sure you’ve all been thinking of ideas so how about getting started with sharing them with each other?”

“This is your booth, not mine, so it’s up to you how you want to do things,” Edward explained to them. “I’m just here to supervise so please keep your ideas appropriate and make sure everyone is getting involved.”

“If you want any help or advice on anything, you are welcome to ask me,” Edward added with a smile. “I am part French and have lived in France for many years, so I daresay I know a thing or two about the country.”

“I’ve found you some relevant books and magazines, which are on that desk,” Edward gestured to the research materials he had selected for the group. “But you are welcome to take a trip to the library if you can’t find what you need there. Alright, off you go.”

Once the groups for the fair had been finalized, Ayla had been a little disappointed to see that Louis Valois had decided to join Team Poland instead of represent his native France. At least she'd still be able to ogle him during orchestra. She was happy to find that Gwen had joined her group, and was overall pretty satisfied with the rest of the members- -even if they were the
youngest group at the fair. They had an advantage as far as she was concerned; two students who actually hailed from the country they were covering. Gwen was friendly with Louis, so maybe she had some extra insight, and Florence was an Aladren. Who needed older students anyway?

The first year Teppenpaw had decided to do a bit of research on France over the break. Granted, it mostly consisted of eating macarons (arguably the most adorable dessert ever), flipping through the latest high fashion magazines and listening to Berlioz with Grandmother. She was excited for the project though, and came to the meeting with a few ideas. She dressed in a knee length, black circle skirt with a black and white striped puff sleeved top. Ayla chose a hot pink bowed belt and black flats to complete her outfit, while her long blonde hair was in a loose braid over one shoulder.

Once they were all settled and Professor Perrault gave his introduction speech, the petite blonde wasted no time jumping in. “First of all, I wanted to say, I’m really excited to do this project with all of you.” She started with a dimpled grin. “I hope that we can all settle on what we want to do, and make our booth as awesome as I know it can be! And how lucky is it that we have Madeleine and Sebastien in our group? Anyway, I was thinking we should definitely highlight French art, because of how important the whole renaissance movement was. Music included, as some really talented composers have been French, you know?” She paused for a moment, as she realized that she had just spewed a lot of information all at once. Not exactly the most ladylike, but she actually had ideas, and it was hard to hold them back sometimes.

“What other ideas do you guys have?” She said, leaning forward slightly in her seat as she eagerly waited for the next person to speak. It was probably best that she stop there anyway, in case she were to continue and take over the entire booth. It was a group project after all. She may only be 12, but Ayla wanted to make sure they did France justice. Who knows, maybe Louis would stop by during the fair to see what they’d come up with. She was determined to impress him, even if she couldn’t speak to him--yet.

Madeleine Dautin

Donc, tu parles français... by Madeleine Dautin

The morning of the first meeting for the fair, Madeleine had not been in a good mood. She hadn't slept well the night before as the relative lack of drama in the dorm room she shared with Arianna and Farrah made her wonder what the two might have been planning to upend her progress at the school that far. She was starting to think that Farrah was likely an innocent party, likely someone who Arianna was blackmailing into aiding her, and so Madeleine continued to be extra nice to her shier roommate, hoping to sway her away from the tempting promises of Evilness. On top of that, her breakfast had not been as delicious as she'd been expecting.

So having to deal with a wanna-be French professor and a group of first years on a project on her country was not something she really wanted to do. At least there was Bastien who, now that Madeleine stopped to really consider, was both a positive and a negative. When Professor Perrault turned it over to their group, Madeleine looked to Bastien to see if he wanted to talk first before realizing that she was a Dautin and therefore didn't need to wait on someone else to make the first move. If she wanted to talk, she was going to talk.

Besides, she was holding in a lot of sass and it was causing her physical discomfort. When Professor Perrault had announced that he was part French and had lived in France for many years, she had wanted to give him a disparaging Look, but she didn’t. She hadn't even looked at Bastien to express to him how irritating she thought it was that this québécois thought he knew stuff about her France! She was willing to bet that he didn’t even speak French correctly!

However this moment in complacency, was this what married life would be like? missing out on opportunities because she would default to her husband who would likely be too stupid to do anything properly or in a timely manner?, allowed for Ayla Tremaine, first year and American to have first say. Madeleine looked over the Teppenpaw's outfit with an aire of concern. She seemed to have fashion choices based in the right way, certainly it was a cute skirt, and black and white stripes were always chique. Puff sleeves ad hot pink belts were not, however, and Madeleine felt like she should probably discount anything that Ayla Tremaine, Tepenpaw said after that.

Until Ayla Tremain, Teppenpaw announced how lucky she felt to have both Madeleine and Bastien working in their group. Then Madeleine felt quite good about herself and rather placated and felt as though the first year was rather cute after all and could be cuter if only a well-meaning, kind second year such as herself would take her under her wing and help her address the more distasteful parts of her wardrobe like that offensive belt.

Hot pink was truly an assault to all senses, sensibility included.

"That sounds nice, Ayla," she said in the way Myrtille might talk to her back home. As an older student, mentoring a younger one in the wonders of her culture, Madeleine felt a nurturing approach was probably best. "Everything we make we can do in both French first and then English underneath so that the other students really feel like they might be in France. And perhaps a showcase on French desserts?" Madeleine herself did not know how to make any kind of dessert--a Dautin cooking? Please, they had cooks for that, but she had a sweet tooth and knew many Americans to have sweet teeth as well. Desserts were sure to be a hit.
