Dropping by? [Tag Professor K] by Irene Liddowe

Irene shifted the bag on her shoulder as she made her way down to the COMC grounds. She needed time alone to think, but she didn't want to be, well, alone at the same time.

Uncle Mike's letter had been so strange. She knew he was hiding something and found herself wishing she could fly to Michigan and check on him. The one thing that kept reassuring her, though, was that Renaye, Josh, and Elaina were there. Her cousins would surely be a help to him. But at the same time, what could they do if Damon was making an appearance again? If he showed up looking for her, what could they really say to make him back off from his, as dispicable as it sounded it was true, "hunt."

Irene reached the grounds and looked around for Twilly. She didn't want to bother the Professor, but she couldn't seem to find her fluffball...

Blowing a strand of brown hair away from her blue-green eyes, Irene called,

"Professor K? Anyone home?"\n\n

Always Welcomed by Professor K

Kiva was busy setting up for her lessons. It was a job that took time and patience. Especially when it came to the creatures. Now that the older students were starting to take on larger and more dangerous creatures, it took longer to prepare the area and make the creatures ready for each and every lesson.

At the moment, she was wandering the paths, making sure that Art was staying out of trouble. Poor guy didn't like coming out so much anymore since Stephen had tried poking him. Kiva supposed Art thought everyone would try doing that to him. She couldn't really blame him.

Now back in her clearing, she found Irene there waiting for her. "Irene? Did you need me for something?" Kiva asked as she emerged further into the clearing. She was devoid of her usual robes and was, instead, sporting jeans and a t-shirt. By her attire, it was clear that she had spent much of the day taking care of her animals.\n\n

=) by Irene

"Irene? Did you need me for something?"

"Oh, I was just wondering if I could see my puffskein?" She said hopefully.

Not too long ago she was up in the common room attempting to write to Uncle Mike. He was being so weird lately and she had made her goal to figure out why. Irene hoped to use the parchment and quill that currently resided in her pocket to write to her uncle. She was going to figure out what was happening and why she was being left out of it.

"I remembered you said I could drop by so I thought I would."\n\n

It's hard to respond to smileys by Professor K

Oh right, the puffskein. It had been awhile since the owls had stopped coming into her office. She had immediately regretted allowing the students to keep the creatures simply because of all the hassle it had caused her in the long run. Not to mention, she knew some of the older students were a bit upset at the idea of the younger students being able to keep an animal but that they never got to.

It was all rather tiring and Kiva had too much on her plate already to deal with the extra stress. For now, any animals would stay in her care and only her's. If she kept it that way, no one got their feelings hurt, she didn't have to deal with the onslot of owls and parental units, and everyone remained happy until the next lesson.

"Well, they aren't kept around here,I can't keep a very good eye on them if I left them out here all day long." Kiva explained to Irene. Already Kiva was turning away from the clearing to head back to the school, "So if you don't mind a little stroll with me, I'll be glad to allow you some time with your puffskein."\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

That's true. I've tried. by Irene Liddowe

Irene was only half aware of what was happening around her. She was still busy contemplating the meaning of that letter. Any other person who read would look at her like she was crazy and dismiss the letter as normal. Irene didn't want to have to wait until midterm break to see him again so she could ask 'What's up?'.

Pulling her mind back to the present Irene nodded when Professor K said,

"Well, they aren't kept around here,I can't keep a very good eye on them if I left them out here all day long."

Irene felt a small let down of disappointment. If he went back to the common room she risked being pestered while she was writing the letter. She wanted to alone, but at the same time she didn't. Gatita, her kitten, wasn't very happy with her at the moment and kept trying to nip at her fingers.

"So if you don't mind a little stroll with me, I'll be glad to allow you some time with your puffskein."

Irene grinned and followed beside her back to the school.

"Thanks a lot. My Uncle's last letter was pretty weird so I thought I'd write him and ask what was going on," she said casually.\n\n

Can't say it's really been an issue for me by Professor K

Kiva's mind was preoccupied with certain events that were taking place in her life over the last year or so. Taking care of the animals was probably the only thing that kept her mind busy during the long hours of the day. Sure teaching the students was enough for her too, but sometimes, especially when it came to the moments outside of classes or on the weekends, Kiva needed something to distract or else she would surely fall apart.

The path to the school was one that Kiva knew by heart. She had seven years of schooling at Sonora plus the four years of being a teacher under her belt to know each and every nook of the grounds as well as the corridors surrounding her house. She doesn't say the same for the rest of the school, aside from the Teppenpaw area due to having been a Teppenpaw herself, but the parts she does know is enough for her.

Kiva glanced down at Irene for a moment as they rounded up the steps to the school. The issue with Irene's Uncle still needed to be dealt with, or was being dealt with, and there was certain things that Kiva knew she shouldn't discuss with the first year. "Perhaps he simply misses you?" Kiva suggested, though she knew what was really the issue. "My mother would send me all sorts of letters when I was in my first year. Only child." Kiva said with a smile. "I'm sure it's nothing to worry about, Irene."

The walk wasn't as long as it could have been since Kiva took many secret passages as well as short-cuts. Already they had reached the library and her office. "It's just a little bit farther." Kiva explained to Irene. After a couple more corridors, Kiva paused in her tracks and indicated for Irene to do the same. With complicated wand movements and soft mutterings, Kiva lifted the wards.

"I would prefer it, Irene, if you didn't tell anyone how to get to these creatures. With wards in place, the likelihood of students being able to get past them if improbable, but I'd prefer to play it safe." It wasn't a threat or warning or anything of the sort, but a hopeful promise between the two of them.

Stepping into the corridor, Kiva moved to the nearest room. Opening the door, one would discover not a classroom, but rather what looked to be the outdoors. Every room was transfigured and charmed to replicate the habitates of the creatures Kiva housed to make them feel more comfortable. The puffskeins were located along with a few of the smaller creatures such as faeries, bowtruckles, and jarvies. The room itself was large and spacious allowing room for each creature to live in harmony.

"Irene's." Kiva stated, waiting for a moment before the puffskein to whom Kiva had tapped back at the lesson, hovered over all the others that were still waiting for his/her student to come find them. "There you are. You can stay here if you'd like, I'll be busy making sure each of them are fed and their areas are clean. If you need anything, just give me a hollar." Kiva told Irene, before moving off to have a look at some of the jarvies.\n\n

*shrugs* Different strokes for different folks! by Irene

"Perhaps he simply misses you? My mother would send me all sorts of letters when I was in my first year. Only child." Kiva said with a smile. "I'm sure it's nothing to worry about, Irene."

Irene gave a shrug and replied. "You're probably right. He almost jumped on the wagon when it was time to leave!" She said with a grin.

When they reached the place after the walk from the grounds, Professor K had said,

"I would prefer it, Irene, if you didn't tell anyone how to get to these creatures. With wards in place, the likelihood of students being able to get past them if improbable, but I'd prefer to play it safe."

Irene nodded and told her she wouldn't tell. Prof. K handed Irene her puffskein and Irene smiled in thanks.

She gave Twilly a light tickle and enjoyed the soft purr it gave in response. Plopping down on the ground, Irene set Twilly in her lap and whipped out some parchment.

Dear Uncle Mike,

It's been a lot of fun here these past few... what is it now? Weeks? Months? Either way its been fun! I hope you're doing okay. I bet Renaye and Elaina are fighting! Josh is probably keeping to himself and training for Quidditch. Am I right?
She paused. Uncle Mike hadn't wanted her to go out for Quidditch, but she loved doing it. Should she tell him? Irene was almost sure that he would accept it, but only against his will... Deciding to tell him over the break Irene continued.

Anyway, the real reason I'm writing is because of your last letter. You seemed a little She paused again before deciding on different. You usually give a "Hey Irene! Keep those grades up. I miss you!" and thats that. It was just different for you I guess. Is there anything wrong? You can't keep secrets and you know it. Even in a letter. Don't make me fly over there and find out! haha!

Wright back soon! I MISS YOU!
Love,
NiNi

P.S.- Tell everyone I can't wait to see them and give them hugs from me =D

Irene threw down her quill with, slightly proud of the fact that it had only taken one try to get it right. She bounced the puffskein lightly on the ground.

She still couldn't place what could be wrong and the only thing she had come up with was her father. But she knew she was being stupid. There was no way he could find them all the way north of him.

Irene was certainly not going back to Kentucky. Never again. She remembered how she had shivered in the winter and had hid in her room when Dad came home late in a towering temper. It was that she was scared of being hit. Irene was never hit. She was scared of being yelled at. She hated people in her face, screaming about how she could never amount to anything because of what she was.

Irene bit her lip and blinked a few times. She patted the puffskein's soft fuzz. She glanced at the time and was shocked to see how fast the minutes had passed her.

Scooping up Twilly, Irene headed over to Professor K, making sure that her eyes were completely dry.

"Professor K?" She called. "Thanks a lot for taking me down here! It helped a lot!" She said holding out Twilly to her.
